For centuries, the Mongkohn lived in peace, avoiding the endless conflicts and squabbling of the warmbloods and unblooded. We rose to fight for our lands and yet still they come. Any indication when we may get a sneek peek of 014549, Reptus Dragonrider Broodmaster? Noticed the data card actually has a model number assigned to it so hopefully soon™

I have seen the WIP green and am liking it a lot. Still has a ways to go, but at least I can say I like the pose and look that it has up to this point.

I have decided my fourth army shall be Reptus. Has anyone played around with an all Nagendra army? I love the snakes, but they look weak. Poison can't hurt Construct, Undead, or Non-Corporeal models. That can be an entire army! I guess I'll toss in Turtles and Trolls to make it an Outcast theme. This is going to be fun.

So I looked through the Reptus. While I like the dragon-headed models, I really like the snakes and turtles. I started playing on Army Builder and slapped together a crazy hard list.

 

Chhaya + Armor of Courage + Book of Tactics

8 Spikeshell Warriors + Standard + Musician

998 Points, 5 cards, 4 troops, 25 models

 

It's a turtle theme army! And it's damn tough. The Outcast Doctrine grants turtles Tough/1. Now they only have 1 damage track, but with DV 10 and DR/1, they are going to last longer than you think. Plus if I can pass a Tough check, they pop up completely unharmed. Tough on 1 track models is kinda cool. I've got a big gun, a really big gun. And six fliers with #MA 4 at MAV 5. Ouch. I have got to play this.

I haven't played an all-snake lsit for the exact reason you mention, but I love one that is heavy with them and trolls and turtles. If you can keep your snakes from being targets at range, they are wicked in-close. My Outcast lists have been looking something like:

 

Reptus - 998 points

Po Wi-Set

The trolls help screen the Warriors in Troop 1, and Troop 3 is all about the Ranger movement. I use Usz to help keep the DT going, and the spikeshells to hold off some opponent models 1-on-1 while the snakes have a chance to do their poison thing (especially in Po's troop, where the Poison checks happen at the end of each activation). It's major weakness is a lack of ranged attacks, but I try to use Po to cover for that.

 

EDIT: I use banded Crymorians a lot myself when I'm making more of a hybrid Reptus list, though usually not more than 4 (at nearly 60 points a pop, they are spendy but awesome).

I've been kicking around an idea of a Reptus Swarm with loads of Couatl. I good mix of casters and couatl plus the outcast doctrine (giving them all rush attack and deflect/1) could be insanely potent. It's like a bondslave survivor list but with poison and much much faster! It may look something like this.

YEah, that might be a very dangerous army. Especially with all the DR/2 Stone Skin spells you can toss around.

I've always wanted to do a ton of the couatl for a list but theyre a bit pricey dollar to points wise.

 

I may have to find a suitable proxy and try that list out for fun, could be a blast.

Check out the "Winged Snake" in the Warlord Familiars III pack (14296). Not only are they smaller (so they rank up better), but I think they are pretty cool. They are my proxies for the official Couatls.

I'm just finishing up the Nagendra Warriors for my Nagendra army. The couple times I played around with it I enjoyed playing it. The snakes die pretty fast, but the mass of poison hits is deadly.

Snakes are cool, but Warwick has a point. Too many potential opponents are immune to poison. That said, Kulan and Klahan always make my list. And if you like getting in amongst your enemy and mixing it up, you gotta go with Skullbreakers. The Krungbeast is an awesome model and attracts lots of attention. Spikeshells lead by Chhaya can really frustrate your opponent. Raptors can swarm or use provoke to protect guys like Chai Uut and Ra'am. I love my Reptus dudes.

Po We-Set got shafted. Three damage tracks? That wouldn't be too bad if he was a stay back and cast spells guy, but look at his close combat abilities. He's no slouch in the hitting department. He'll die next turn, of course, but he might take someone with him.

So how would you play him? Keep him surrounded and casting? Throw him in the swirl of melee? What's his purpose?

AT DV 11+ dodge/2 + immune to support + disable

 

he is a little more hardened for melee than first glimpsed. Is he Khong-to or the Broodmaster? No. He is not a dragon styled warrior, he is a snake styled warrior.

 

With 15 spell points, I would imagine the tactic is to cast a couple of big spells as the enemy approaches (like Blight followed by an Earthquake) and then swing away. He might go down in one big flurry if the enemy is able to surround you, but with swing thru and corners counting, he should be able to get more than his share of hits before bowing out. If that Earthquake was successful it can get ugly.

 

Disable says that if you can be the one to attack, then you have less swings coming back at you to try and crack that affective DV 13.

 

If they swarm you, then they are gonna get lots of swings just as they would against any model that is swarmed. But, at least again with the immunity, it means that they have to get better rolls to crack that affective DV 13.

 

Lastly, if your opponent is susceptible to poison, then take all of that above and and all of those swing thru swings and those one point hits can turn into 2 point hits in a hurry.

 

All for only 128 points. Again, not to be confused with the 200+ point Broodmaster, but I would say plenty of bang for the buck at an affordable price.

He's going to take some new tactics from me. I'm used to huge melee leaders. Playing the Outcast Doctrine is going to take more finesse than usual. As long as I face an army that isn't immune to Poison. Facing an undead army is going to take away a lot of my punch. Well, I can only talk the talk so much. I better get in a game to learn how it really works out.

Warwick, I recommend beefing him up. Give him the Troll Cloak and slap a Stone Skin spell on him before sending him out into the fray, maybe even a Divine Might from T'kay while you're at it. Now he's a DR/2, Mighty, Swing Through melee guy with poison and spells. ::D:
