Summer 09 Painting Contest

Recommended Posts

Come one, come all! Post your best summer-themed paint job on a Reaper figure.

Themes (because I couldn't settle on just one):

Ain't No Cure for the Summertime Blues and Born on the Fourth of July

You're not required to post a themed entry, but entries following the theme will be considered more highly than others.

Weigh your chances, enter wisely. Enter as many times as you like, but only one entry per user will be eligible for the final vote.

This thread will be locked August 1st, 2009 (1 minute after midnight, CST, in fact). Then our staff will pick the best 10 entrants. Then you vote on those 10. And three lucky people will get a lovely gift certificate.

Prizes:

1st: $50 Gift Certificate

2nd: $25 Gift Certificate

3rd: $15 Gift Certificate

Fine print:

Reaper reserves the right to remove entries if deemed inappropriate, but the general nudity rules will be lifted for this contest.

Inappropriate in this case includes a non-Reaper figure.

Photoshopping your entry is strictly prohibited. Even something simple like adding a logo is prohibited.

Enter as many times as you like, but only one entry per user will be eligible for the final vote.

Previously posted stuff is fair game. This is a friendly contest.

The certificates will be redeemable through the Asylum Online Store.

Reaper can clarify and amend rules at will.

We'll be the judge of "credible." No "dip-in-nail-polish" entries will count. But don't worry, we're friendly.

Go ahead and have your friends vote, but many votes from the same IP address will likely be ignored. Especially if your piece isn't that great. No peeing in the pool!

Posting Guidelines:

Please attach your entries using the forum uploading feature. We want to make sure they're visible at all times.

Please keep critiques and any other chatter to yourselves within the thread. Any non-entry posting can be deleted at any time.

Begin!

Introducing Captain Go! Ancient nautical robot and stalwart leader of the Gonauts.

EDIT: For purposes of clarity, I will mention that my aim was to use the theme "Ain't No Cure for the Summertime Blues". For me at least, anything nautical/oceanic goes hand-in-hand with summer time. And for a pasty-white fellow such as myself, curing the summertime blues often means going to great lengths to avoid the heat. I feel that the idea of a robot needing to trundle across the ocean floor captures this on some level. Just thought I'd make that especially clear.

Also, for those of you keeping score at home, I used the Battleforge Golem and a considerable amount of putty.

I eventually came to the conclusion that an ideal tribute and fit with "Born On The Fourth of July" was this Necro figure that I have painted to honor my husband. A 15 year Army veteran, excellent leader, fantastic dad, and best friend, he is always there for us and for his soldiers.

I don't mean this is a political statement :poke: I am just proud of my husband for his dedication to the people he loves and his continuing service for those he doesn't even know. Happy 4th of July!

I just had to paint the surfer dude, as it is the epitome of summer to me!

He's going to have some summertime blues though, because he's being visited by the pisces mermaid and attacked by a water elemental... :B):

Now this nice old Troll Mama just wanted to take her baby for a fun day at the beach, but that prankster of a kobold had to try to ruin it for them, didn't he? I mean, it's not her fault she's so ugly!

I tell you, though, someone's going to be singing the Summertime Blues, and I don't think it will be the Troll!

Figures used (02520: Troll Matron, 03064: Kobolds) are both sculpted by Ben Seins

Here's my entry, Gabriel Darkblood from DHL line. It fits both themes, do I get double points for that? :poke:

Theme 1

Famous last words: Ain't No Cure for the Summertime Blues, Mr. Gabriel?

Theme 2

Born on the Fourth of July --> Tom Cruise --> Interview with a vampire --> vampire Gabriel

Good luck to all!

Hello,

so here's my entry for this contest for the "Summertime Blues" theme. I hope you like my interpretation of this miniature. She's pretty sure that it's a very hot summer...
