Reaper Bones Kickstarter!

Recommended Posts

Reaper's Bones KickStarter is a project to ramp up the production of the Bones line and get you the game models you want now!

Why are we doing this?

Since the launch of Bones in March, a full third of the figures we ship are Bones Gaming Miniatures. We have 8 pages of Bones suggestions going in our forum. It's clear that you, our fans, want more of these Bones figures. And why not? They're awesome sculpts at a terrific price! What's not to love?

As it turns out, they're also really expensive to produce. The mold costs alone are astronomical. In order to grow this line, we can do it slow and steady over the next several years, or we can defer to you guys and launch a bunch of new ones as soon as possible.

By the end of the year, we anticipate having 30 products in the Bones line. What this Kickstarter will do is at least double the Bones line to 60 total models: character models, new sculpts, big monsters, the sky's pretty much the limit.

All we need to kickstart this thing is your support.

What Do I Get For Supporting You?

We have a number of opportunities available for our supporters.

These include, but are not limited to, various apparel items, a chance to receive each of the new 30 models, a Kickstarter-exclusive Sophie model, Design-Your-Own-Miniature packages, not to mention some of the most valuable Crown Jewel one-of-a-kind items from the Reaper archives. (And we even have some incredible stretch goals in mind – we remain ever optimistic!)

Something for everyone who loves miniature gaming.

But where's the free stuff?? Well, what lives under rocks and logs? BUGS! This Vermin pack includes 2 of each of the 6 different Vermin figures you need for those low-level dungeon encounters! There's Scorpions, Spiders, Beetles, and then 3 swarms, more beetles, more spiders, and more rats! Vampires will receive 2 copies of each miniature (as shown in the picture), and Undertakers will receive 4 copies of each (which is two of the picture!) If you pledge for extra sets of these, be aware that each extra set includes all 2 of each, not one of each.

And now you need a monster - a big monster for your Frost Giant King to command into battle! This massive Frost Wyrm is over 4 inches tall, and would be classified as Huge in Role-Playing Game terms. One of the strengths of the Pathfinder Miniatures line is the creative, evocative character designs. Their Iconic characters, representations of the class in the game, really stand out as not just illustrations, but living characters of their world. To that end, we introduce here 7 Pathfinder Iconics for the Pathfinder Bones miniatures line. With this goal, you will get Seelah, Damian, Merisiel, Freya, Valeros, Amiri, and Seoni! These 7 miniatures will be automatically included in your Vampire or Undertaker Level pledge when we meet this goal.

This one's another batch of monsters – and if you want multiple sets, you can add more for just $5 per set! We've got a horde (is 4 a horde? We'll fact-check that and get back to you!) of desiccated mummies designed to coordinate with your favorite wargame or RPG! There's everything from the simple basic Mummy, the loyal Tomb Guardians, the elite Mummy Lord, and the sorcerous Pharaoh-God of the Sands!

KS_MummyReward.jpg

There's more big monsters (that aren't dragons!) coming up – but we have to have something in our pockets for the next few days! In the meantime, enjoy these bonus reward miniatures, and go tell your friends about this great deal we're making together!

This four pack of Dark Heroes, including 2 fighter/paladins, a demonic wizard, and a necromancer/death priest can be yours by simply adjusting—no? These are bonus rewards, too? Yes! Once we make this stretch goal, everybody will receive these four models as part of their Vampire or Undertaker level pledge!

Lizardmen and Trolls and Snakemen, Oh My! All four new pieces of art by Talin, all four included as Bonus rewards on your Vampire or Undertaker Level Pledge! Multiples available for $5 more!

KS_SwampThings.jpg

But that’s not all! You’ve had a few days to rest up, and let your Pledging fingers rest! Now, it’s time for another Gargantuan terror from the swamps! A great huge beastie to tear your adventurers limb-from-limb!

OK, to give you an idea, this bad boy is 7 and one-half inches from nose to spiked tail, and his tallest head is 3 inches off the ground! He's long enough to count as gargantuan or Colossal, which makes him the last monster your players will ever feed!

NOTE: We're about to begin having only one active revealed tomb at a time. It has been really exciting offering up 2 tombs at once, but as we get closer to the final day, we want to be sure that we're focused and ready. To that end, on the next stretch goal ($1,540,000), you will not see the full reward, but merely a teaser. The full reward will be revealed when we reach $1,660,000.

This one is not my work, but my wife's first rpg mini ever. She put a huge amount of work in and is really proud of her.

The shine is because the day it was finished, my dullcoat decided to be a berk and refused to actually be matte.

Sorry for being away from the Forum for so long.

So ... how does one pronounce "peryton"?
I've usually said it like "keratin" (stress on the first syllable), but I suppose it could rhyme with "enlighten" (stress on the second syllable) instead.
I realized only weeks ago that I had been mispronouncing "wyvern" all my life, and the first syllable is long like "five", not short like "shiv".

      Anyway...
I taught a class called "Fur, Feathers, and Scales" class at ReaperCon 2018.
I used the Bones peryton as a demonstration, because of the big feathered wings.
The first-edition Monster Manual gives the coloration of a peryton as blue-black head, black horns, green wings, and blue chest (male) or drab chest (female).
I showed my students pictures of real hawks and falcons, most of which have dark tips on their wing feathers, and sometimes a series of dark stripes.
Then I painted one of the peryton's wings to have stripes like that (black on green).

Now I've decided to paint the whole figure, to at least a good tabletop standard.
I attached it to a 50mm round base, sculpted some extra rocks, and sculpted the skeleton of a past victim (a Reaper pewter skull, plus bones made from putty).
Perytons bite the hearts out of their prey, so I made the skeleton's ribcage open/broken in front.

Here's how my version looked after I spent 2 hours slapping on Black Brush-on Primer and White Brush-on Primer, to establish the overall values.
The primer didn't fully cover the striped green wing from my ReaperCon class.

      Enjoy,
      Derek

The bugbears that came in Bones 3 (the 4 identical ones) all had really floppy maces. Last night I decided to do something about that. One got a plastic ax from the weapons sprues, while the other is getting a spear based on a bamboo skewer. I'll be adding a proper spear to the tip of the skewer made out of greenstuff, but I need to make it first.

As I eagerly await the arrival of my Bones 4 order... A Kickstarter to put all your Reaper minis to use!!!

It all started with wanting a good old-fashioned dungeon crawl, but in an easy to play board game that had flexibility in exploration and was challenging. I had a multitude of minis, so did not need to spend extra money on the available board games that included all of those minis and pieces to the point of the game costing hundreds of dollars and bloated rules to where picking up a casual game with friends was nearly impossible. Why was there not a role-playing board game with easy to understand rules, super quick to set up and unlimited flexibility to make my own campaigns, use my own minis and even print the material, board, terrain and furniture as needed?
Welcome to Cavern Quest Warriors – the RPG board game where you choose one of six characters with unique abilities on a quest in search of adventure and treasure. Choose a Warrior/Fighter, Barbarian/Berserker, Cleric/Monk, Rogue/Thief, Wizard/Magic-User or an Archer/Ranger. All games pieces are designed to be printed on either paper or simple card stock (e.g. 110 lb. index) – just print what you need along with the basic rules, special cards and campaign module that includes the floor plan, creature stat panel, individual room/floor tiles and use your own minis to embark on a quest with your friends. The Cavern Master will guide the play for maximum challenge and enjoyment for the characters along with movement and battle for all creatures, keeping it enjoyable for everyone. Each campaign module gives the Cavern Master complete instructions on how to guide the players through each room and what creatures and events they will encounter. While this concept is not entirely new, the method and delivery concept are. By providing all documents electronically, you save money by printing yourself - no need to spend hundreds of dollars to get what ends up being an enormous board game.

The basic rules are quick and easy to learn, yet always challenging and allow for character expansion in all abilities through experience gained. The magic system is unique to ensure a varied and changing set of magic skills as wizards progress. New players can jump in at any time and at any level, with our set skill system for characters – no need to start at the bottom!

KS pledges start at $12. Check out our Kickstarter live now: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mdsw/cavern-quest-warriors

There are some minis that are absolutely brilliant in Bones. This is not one of them. But it's a mini that works for a fellow players for our Curse of Strahd campaign, so...

First problem, the staff was really bent out of shape. Impressive since it's connected to both his hand and the cloak. A quick boil and then ice bath to care of that.

Then there were three mold lines. Unfortunately extensive on the outstretched arm and on the smooth cloak.

Once those were taken care of, I glued him to a base, splashed on the brown liner and then began to block in colors.

Afterburn Grey, peacock green, tanned shadow, and dessert stone were the primary colors I used to start with.

That was last week, and it was enough to get the okay from my player. So tonight, I worked on him some more. Added Rosy flesh, nut brown, some black lining, and Marigold for the hair.
I think I'm going to wash the hair with something a little more orange red, then bring up the color more with the blond triad. Not sure what to do with the leather bandoleer, but I'm thinking maybe a red leather?
