Shadowrun 4th Edition

15 posts in this topic

I honestly don't know how much interest there will be for this but here goes......

Who wants to earn a rep? Anyone up for some easy nuyen? How about breaking laws for money?

I'm thinking of running a Shadowrun game, based on Shadowrun 20th Anniversay Edition (published by Catalyst Game Labs) rules, which will be known as SR4A from now on :o)

The campaign will start in 2071 and will include most, if not all, published adventures. All source books are open and so are all character options - wanna play a Drake? Or maybe an AI? So long as it's a 400 build point character and meets all the rules I'm happy :o)

I'll be using HeroLabs software (produced by Lone Wolf Development) to manage characters and combat, so you won't even need any dice. I'll produce HL files for every character, and email a PDF of the character portfolio should you wish. If you want the software, by all means feel free but it's not essential and the whole package does cost around £90 at present.

If anyone's interested please post. I'd like a minimum of 4 runners, no more than 10 please :oP

I'm interested but I don't think I have any 4th edition stuff to work with, I do have 3rd edition. But I guess it's just a matter of character generation so I may not need the new books. I'll take a look thru my collection, I had 4th edition but I think I traded it for some miniatures.

Not real familiar with Shadow run, but I'd be interested in giving it a shot.

*Found and downloaded the anniversary edition, so I'll be checking this out over the next few days.

I wouldn't mind giving it a go. I've got 4th Edition (is the Anniversary edition different?).

How frequent do you plan on posts/turns?

Sorry I've not posted, seems the forum forgot to email me and I've been working. Don't have to worry about that now so on with the Shadowrun!

I'm planning on posting once a week, maybe every other week depending on how everyone works out.

The Anniversary edition is slightly different but it's more the occaisional rule being reworked to include errata and FAQ info.

@gwangi SR4 is actually quite different, it's not as complicated - and is based on dice pool modifiers as every TN is 5 & 6.

So we've got 4 potential runners?

Anyone have any ideas as to the character they'd like to play?

I'm tempted. Not sure which rules set we have, 3 maybe?

I'm not too sure. I've been going through some of the material, so I am starting to get the gist of how this works. I did have a couple of questions for you to help with character ideas though:

Location: Urban/rural/exotic/orbital/journey/aquatic/hacking campaign?

What kind of Build Points are we dealing with?

Any limitations, specialties or other character options that you would like to see?

Right now, leaning towards an elven Christian Theurgist (Street Magic) or a troll physical adept. Some type of magic-user, anyway.

Still mulling it over, but I'll probably go with something along the meat-shield lines.

As I said, 400 BP. I'm basing the campaign in Seattle. I tend to be a little light on 'detective style' adventures but otherwise everything else is straight down the middle. Combat will be common, and hacking and rigging cry out to be included in those as well as does magic. Social engineering and working contacts will also be very common - it's not what you know but who you know afterall :o)

I'm happy with any qualities, except Flashbacks or anything similar, and races and the like. Just remember a Sasquatch isn't especially common even in the 2070's.

The only other exception is that everyone will gain the fixer I use for my campaign at Loyalty 2 and Connection 2 for free once we start play.

Still mulling it over, but I'll probably go with something along the meat-shield lines.

I've found that in Shadowrun, 'tanks' don't work amazingly well. You need physicality to add to your survivaility (Damage Resistance Tests, although I ignore Armour Encumberance rules so long as you aren't silly) but killing quick is the best way to protect your more fragile team mates.

I'm tempted. Not sure which rules set we have, 3 maybe?

What's the image on the cover of the main rulebook?

Not sure, really. I'd been thinking up different concepts in my spare time, but I don't like to pin anything down until I have a better feel for the party.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I haven't had the best September (anyone got a 'turn back the clock' spell or something?).

Yes we're still looking for players, the more the merrier.

This is one of Crooked Dice's many classic British television homages. Crooked Dice calls him "Hugo Solomon (New Version)", but he is pretty blatantly the actor Jon Pertwee, who played the third incarnation of the Doctor in "Doctor Who" from 1970-1974 (with a return guest appearance in 1983). Whoever the sculptor is captured an amazingly close likeness.

I painted up the figure, however, not as the Doctor but as a weapon-shunning magical-academic type for Shadowrun, the cyberpunk game. Although I was trying to paint the figure as not-the-Doctor, between the player's clothing color choices and the highly accurate portrait sculpture it totally looks like him. Well, with rather darker hair and blue-violet iridescence in his hair and on his cloak.

Somehow it just seems to make him look more like the Doctor.

Deep in VR, the icon of the hacker sent to assist Mod screamed and vanished. He stopped, and just as he realized what happened a large wound appeared on his icon's leg. "Crap." He thinks, clenching his jaw in pain. He switches back to AR and looks around the room where he's jacked in. A large explosion had torn the room to shreds, and shrapnel had severed his femoral artery. Blood sprayed from the injury with every heart beat. Only a couple of minutes before he bled out. He activated his earpiece. "Imouto, can you hear me?" He huffed through gritted teeth.

High above Essen, atop Lofwyr's back, Maisie heard Mod's pained voice. "Mod, what's wrong?"

"I'm hurt, Maisie. Bad. I don't have enough time to reprogram the system. I have to shut it down."

"What happened to the other hacker?"

Mod looked to his left and saw the other hacker severed almost completely in half by a plate of plasteel. "Dead."

"Hang on, Ani. We'll get help!"

"No time. I have to set the program now before I bleed out. Love you, kid. Wreak some havoc."

Maisie grew quiet, then angry. "Lofwyr...let's bring that oversized son of a woof down."

"There is no time! We must get you to the Primer!" The great dragon's voice boomed in Maisie's head.

"Then do it!" Maisie snapped. The gold dragon let out a roar and dived into the fray.

Back down at the jackpoint, Mod's body went limp as he switched back to VR. He set the program to shut the system down. He went to jack out, but was hit by a surprise attack from IC, jamming his connection open. Mod gasped as everything went black. Outside, every drone and guard linked to the system shut down and crumpled to the ground. Mod's body began to twitch and spasm from the massive surge of biofeedback as the system crashed. The seizure only stopped after the force of the spasms ripped the wires from his datajack. His body went limp and his fried brain forced a few more ragged breaths before his body finally succumbed to blood loss.

Ok, so few explanations here. "Imouto" is Japanese for "Little Sister", and "Ani" is "Big Brother". They are not actually related, but are like family to each other. As for the rest, I'll allow you to speculate. ;)

The big dogs at Shadowrun like my story! They told me to let them know when I'm done with my rough draft, and they'll give me the email to their editor!

I'm smiling so hard my cheeks hurt! AHHHH!!! OMGOMGOMG!!! I can't believe this!

So, I have been working on a Shadowrun story that begins in the year 2090 (so after all of the 5th ed stuff). The plot focuses on a 17 year old elf named Maisie, who finds out her father is a dragon (after digging through both Shadowrun and Earthdawn lore, I found that this is a thing that can happen, but only between a male dragon and a female elf, but doesn't happen very often at all. Like, once every several thousand years kind of rare). Her existence sparks an all-out war between Lofwyr and Alamais (who is crazed after faking his death for a second time using blood magic. His "death" occurs in 2074 according to Shadowrun lore, and he spends thee years between then and 2090 infiltrating S-K to rip the rug out from under his brother and finds out about Maisie's existence after taking revenge on the shadowrunner who "killed" him).

Most of the big players get involved. Hestaby, Harlequin, Aden, Ehran the Scribe, Celedyr, Sean Laverty, Kaltenstein, Jane Foster, Rhonabwy, Aithne Oakforest (only makes a breif appearance at the end), Schwartzkopf, Nadja Daviar, and even Feuerschwinge.

The story ends with Alamais being imprisoned for life, Lofwyr getting the S-K Arcology back under his control and regaining possession of the Jewel of Memory, and Maisie being gifted a private estate in Tir Tairngire and a seat on the Council of Princes.

There's a lot more too it, but I don't want to spoil the whole thing before it's finished. Any tips, suggestions, or advice?

This is an old lead Ral Partha figure, from Shadowrun, I believe. I painted her rather neutrally, so she could be used in a variety of modern settings.
