Psyberwolfe's Chronoscope GI Joe/Cobra Mod

Recommended Posts

Alright It's going to take a few posts in this thread to complete all of this. Since the game "Tomorrow's War" by Ambush Alley Games has dropped I've been planning on doing a GI Joe Mod. So I'll start with the what Reaper doesn't provide.

The HISS Tank

Of anything in the arsenal you'll have to scratch build this. Here is a Website with a detailed review and pictures of the most recent addition to the HISS tank line. And here is a site with the blue prints that came with the toys from the 80's. (The HISS is near the bottom of this page of blue prints.) Here's his second page of blue prints.

As for the Joe vehicles most are based off of US military equipment so these can be obtained in 1/48 model kits, or kit bashed from them.

Alright here we go. The Forces of Cobra:

Obviously Cobra grunts/troops will come right from the NOVA Security Models

Currently they really don't make a Cobra Commander however with some green stuff you can certainly mod him from:

Andre Durand, Time Chaser

The Baroness

Astrid Berger, Female Spy OR

Natalia, Female Secret Agent

Destro

Boris Barayev, Five Suns Smuggler

Dr Mindbender (He's one of those based on taste so I present 2 versions)

Dr. Ervin Friedman, Mad Scientist

Professor L.T. Froschmeister, Scientist

Bio-Viper/Mindbender creation

Crosswire, Super Villain

Stormshadow

Ninja of the Ghost Dragon Clan

That wraps up this installation, and by no means is this exaustive. If you have suggestions feel free to make them.

Time for the Joe's.

So the IMEF Marines make perfect GI Joe grunts

Duke

Nick Stone, IMEF Squad Leader

Scarlet

Veronica Blaze, Agent of G.U.A.R.D.

Snake Eyes

Cobra, Modern Ninja

Flint

Frank Russo, Mercenary Hero

Lady Jay

Sarah Blitzer, IMEF Sniper

Ripcord (yeah I know this model is a girl)

Kassia Switlick, Skydiver

Roadblock

Reggie Van Zandt, IMEF Heavy Gunner

Barbque

“Torch” McHugh, IMEF Flame Thrower

Wild Bill

John Bishop, Space Marshal

Deep Six

Deep Sea Diver

OK there you go. By no means is this list exhaustive and like last time Feel free to add suggestions.

I'm really sorry to do this since it isn't a Reaper model, but there really is a near-perfect cobra commander model.

Also, the recent Cobra hiss from the Chibi-ish "Rapid Rollers" series is a workable size for 28mm. It needs quite a bit of upgrading (fixing tracks, removing wheels, removing pilot and covering cockpit, etc, but I've got one I found at a resale shop that's awaiting a conversion.

Well that is a perfect Cobra Commander. The problem is ordering just the figure from the UK to the US ain't cheap. So if you find a US distributor let me know.

He's not available from Black Hat, or I could help out. Get him added to my soon Coat D'Arms raid and send him off from here.

I did, however, find some world war one goblins.

At least, I think I did.

It may be that somebody just spiked my coffee.

I love it! The only problem is Barbecue was a firefighter. The figure you have for him may be better suited for Blowtorch.

For my ReaperCon entry this year, I painted my Iron Cobra and a chest that I sculpted for one of the Bones KS's.  I'm not entirely happy with these pictures, as the blue seems to be diminished in them (the background and steel colors are actually light blue; maybe it is my monitor?).  I may adjust them later and re-post, but for now, they're pretty close (as close as I can get when photographing metallic paint).

Oh, and I placed a Gold Medal with this in the Open Category.

Cobra finished, liked the model alotta, so it moved up on the "to-do ladder".
It's 90% airbrush, just started using one, so very happy with it.
      Base is from scibor

So now that ReaperCon 2016 is over , my painting desk is clear of pretty much everything, as for the last few months, everything was directed towards that...

So I am taking on a project for a good friend, who recently had his first child, and no longer has much time for anything....

We play a game called Flames of War, which is 15mm WWII, and the company that released it, Battlefront,  has come out with a new variation called Team Yankee, The title comes from a novel by Harold Coyle about an American Tank team in Germany during World War III circa 1985...

Your humble Drow is taking this on as a labor of love, because if the events in the book would have been true, He would have been one of those tank crewmen involved in the  fighting.....

So I am painting his force as C company, 1st Battalion, 33rd Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored Division....

I served in B Co and Headquarters cos while there, so that is what I will eventually do my troops as....

Anyway the kits are all plastic, just like the 1/35th scale models i used to build back when...

      The sprues:

That builds 1 M1 Abrams Tank, depending on what version you wish to build, there are different parts....

He also shipped me the US paint set, and 2 cans of the base coat / primer for the US Forces...

(Aren't the bullet bottles cute? they are only 12ml though.....)
Battlefront originally had Vallejo doing their paints, and now I believe it is Army Painter...

So I assembled the hull and turret of one last night to use as my test bed, spraying overall with the Yankee Green spray, and painting the track pads and rubber of the road wheels with Vallejo Black Grey...

So tonight I am going to read up a bit on what BF thinks is appropriate colors, then mask the tracks and break out the airbrush for some 3 color camo, US Army style, 1985....

      Thanks for looking!
