Stone Golems :: Marvel Team Up :: Interactive WIP

Recommended Posts

Been staring at the Bones Stone Golems, 77171, and wondering what to do with them.

Ran ideas around and round ... starting with the Jade Golem from vulture ... pulled some greens to consider as well as other alternate colors for golems.

Onyx, Jade, Rudy, Topaz ... gem stones?

Hmmm.

Rock. Rock facets. So I start looking about the Interwebs for how to paint the worn rock edging. I pull up stone golem images and I run across:

Ben Grimm, The Thing.

And I recall how my group refers to miniatures. We always compare them to various media figures, so why not start there.

I present to you, Three Marvel Golems:

post-7739-0-31643800-1374453098_thumb.jpg

  • The Thing
  • The Hulk
  • TBD

The last one ... I'm looking for a solid-colored, "massive" Marvel character. Colossus, perhaps? Or can I just represent Captain America? Or go with "strength" and make a "Thor" sans cape?

Throw down your thoughts. I plan to start with The Thing. Suggestions on techniques to get the best version of Thing's orange rock feel are welcome.

Thanks, T

colossus from X-men would be mu suggestion.

For Ben, I would begin with oiled leather mixed with a bit of yellow and shade up and down from there. In the comics, and the movies he doesn't seem to have a very textured appearance, so smooth transitions and colour would probably work

I was going to paint the forces of nature earth elemental as the Thing :)

Maybe Crimson Dynamo? If Hulk turns out good you could do Red Hulk.

Here's the start of

TheThing!

I did get his upper half done as well as his hands. Sadly, my phone ran out of juice.

Off to bed. More tomorrow.

I applaud this idea:

I put "evil Hulk" in a search engine. Got this: http://marvel.com/universe/Red_Hulk

So there you go: Orange, Green, Red.

Red Hulk was initially considered and is an obvious color choice.

Orka

Juggernaut

Thanos

Grey Gargoyle

I also considered Juggernaut (Brown), Thanos (Slate Gray to Blue) and Grey Gargoyle (Light Gray)

You could go "obscure DC characters" and do Strata >.>

Wow, that's about as obscure as it gets.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was really hoping to stick to Heroes so Colossus is currently ahead.

I know he's not HUGE like the aforementioned but perhaps Captain America? He's mostly Blue and I could paint the accessories on the golem red and white.

Keep the suggestions coming.

Here's a couple of pics of where I ended last night:

Red Hulk is kind of a hero now, in Thunderbolts with Elektra, Deadpool, Spiderman and Punisher.

I've recently gotten back into reading comics, the Marvel Now stuff has some really nice books going.

Edit - Ben is looking awesome! I love super hero paint jobs on non-super hero minis ever since the RPG challenge.

Another edit - given the angularity, I'm not sure it would work for Cap, though the iconic color scheme would sell it well. I bet one of the more angular marks of Iron Man suits would look cool.

Wow, I really need to catch up on my Marvel lore ... um ... Spidey has a machine gun!

I knew about the recent title change (Superior Spider-man) from the story arc about Octavius and Parker.

Amusingly, I just watched the Ultimate Spider-man on Disney where Deadpool appears last week. Show amuses me and my son endlessly. *Monkey Squeak!*

Red Hulk, Iron Man, Juggernaut = rust red golem for the win!

Anyone want to send me a fourth? Then I'll do a Colossus/Thanos/Grey Gargoyle - gray golem. We'll prolly call him Colossus but I'll rep the rest as well. :blues:

Thunderbolts spidey is pretty cool...but the Superior Spiderman is really, really good (spoiler: Doc Ock is spider man). My favorite books right now are probably Hawkeye, Deadpool, Superior Spiderman and Thor (all Marvel Now versions).

I used to subscribe to all of the Spider-man titles. Got to be a bit expensive.

They lost me during the Parker Clone storyline.

I am a Norse mythology buff so Thor was always a favorite. I hear Deadpool is hilarious but have never read one.

And then there was the Hulk. Again too many story lines to catch up on but always enjoy a random Hulk comic.

      Hi all,
Here is my take on the Graveyard Golem that came with the Crypt expansion in Bones 3.

I tried to give its eyes an eerie glow to show what evil animates it and it also matches the glow in painted on the runes inside the crypt. (http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/77887-crypt-graveyard-expansion/)

I've been working on him off and on for a few months now. My goal was to get him as close as possible to the promotional art of him, (which Chrome is fighting me on posting, as my ref pics aren't on google drive...) which was an intimitating mix of red, brown and grey that reads as black.

The browns are Ebony Skin mixed with Stormy Gray in varying amounts, the lighter spots are a light drybrush of Buckskin Pale to represent dust.

Another Bones 1 figure; painted to a tabletop level. Let me know what you think.
      Thanks for looking!
