Bones Kickstarter #2 Pre-discussion

Recommended Posts

Can we get Reaper Badge Lanyards as a low level swag in the next KS? That would be handy for cons and I could wear mine to work every day and represent.

Also, why not some Army Pack ala carte options? I'd happily drop some cash on a Nefoskar force I don't have to piece together myself.

Though I prefer just Bones in the KickStarter, I'm fine with other swag being used to keep momentum going. In the end it may help us get more of the Bones we really want.

I think they should do the forum title thingy again (the one that says "Bones Supporter" with the Bones Kickstarter picture), since it seems like a lot of people missed out on them in the first one due to the short window that they were available. Perhaps a bit different from the first one to differentiate.

Huzzah!

If the minis offered correspond to what I want, I will most likely back (in short: of course I will), and what I want is monsters (DnD/pathfinder) and animals, including those often used for summoning, wild shape and animal companion.

A remark about the first kickstarter: the mummy level was ridiculous. 60 $ for 30 minis, while vampire was 75 $ for 240 minis. It was equally ridiculous to buy the original 30 as an add on for another 60 $. I would really have liked to add them to have multiples of the monsters, but throwing in another 75 $ to get 200 minis I don't need was a bit too much. I can see a reason for existence for something like the "dungeon attack" level, but after that, I think it should immediately be the vampire equivalent, with the original monsters as reasonable add on. (I'm ignoring all the levels with caps and T-shirts and Sofies, because I don't care about them, but they don't bother me either).

It is a smart move from Reaper to announce the kickstarter a few months in advance. It gives time for the word to spread, the excitement to built, backers to save money and their partners to get used to the idea of spending heaps of money to silly toys. I wonder how much future backers will refrain from backing other kickstarters because of this.

Mummy level made vampire look like the better bargain it came to be - but at $100 Vampire started out with a lot less.

So at minimum funding level you were only getting slightly more than Mummy. Later you could increase by 40 and switch. Totally served its purpose.

ETA - I looked it up, and at start $100 Vampire got you exactly $100 of the miniature pledges at that time. Adding Sophie (25) and Dungeon Attack (15) to Mummy (60) Plus a free forum badge..

I agree. I was we'll thought out. It is no wonder that many KickStarters are trying to emulate this model. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have the backend math correct on a lot of the cases.

I'll likely be in on this one as well. The last one went pretty well, so i'll see what this has to offer. I just hope that this one doesn't take so much away from their metal production. Despite Buglips descent into plastic insanity, Bones will never replace metal in my heart.

I'm not sure what communication issues people are talking about. Except for the few things that even reaper says they dropped the ball on, communication has been great and upfront. Some companies try to do weekly updates and those are great at first but eventually I get tired of clicking to read an update only to sse that it has nothing to say.

They slowed down the Rest of the World shipping drastically towards the end and haven't really said why. I think it was to QC the later shipments so they wouldn't have to do as many replacements (which makes sense), but we don't know for sure. Also, we didn't hear about the staggered shipments until problems arose there. For the most part, though, communications was pretty good.

Well, I did encounter the kickstarter after the mummy level stopped being relevant, so that could explain my feeling. In the second kickstarter, a mummy level would stop being relevant after at most 2 hours.

My main issue is that the original 30 add on was insanely expensive compared to everything else, while I would definately have considered it for a lower price.

I like the fact that the extra Vampire level I got is now set at $324.99 on the Reaper Site. ^_^

Imagine getting a huge order - only to sell it on eBay 0.o

I wonder if anyone actually did that. Or how large the largest FLGS order was !

Bryan did confirm in the comments that they were doing extra QC checks for RoW orders, plus the general unforeseen complications of getting that many international orders to that many different countries all at once. At least they'll know their stuff for the next one and they shouldn't have to go back on original shipping plans.

We have to expect that the first time any company does a new process, there will be some learning curves to overcome. A good company will learn from their mistakes and improve the process for future projects. Reaper is a great company so I have no doubt this will happen.

I'm pretty sure that Reaper is also going to not be so optimistic about getting stuff from their partner in China and how long stuff takes to get through customs and how long shipping will take.

What I mean is that if they say it will take 12 months (number pulled out of someplace even a goblin thinks is unpleasant) to fulfill the kickstarter2 but they planned for it to take 10 months as a worse case scenario then they wouldn't be late.

But the interwebz will still be filled with the crying of trolls.
