"Black Moon's Bane": A Spelljammer Ship (New Pictures, post #27)

Recommended Posts

This is bitter sweet to see Pingo. Happy to see it done, but I'll miss the updates on the WIP. Been following along with your WIP since the beginning and this is just a work of art that you put out, very very original and amazing. Congrats on completing it!

To get a better grasp of the work that went into your WONDERFUL creation I just strolled through your W.I.P. thread. Your attention to detail, painstaking modeling, imaginative color choices, & skilled brushwork have yielded a BEAUTIFUL LITTLE MASTERPIECE! I am very impressed with your dedication to the task. SPLENDIDLY WELL DONE!

A beautiful work of art. Each time you updated the WIP it became more and more jaw-dropping. I especially enjoy the little freehand details on the sides of the hull.

There are so many wonderful little details and story elements woven into what started out as a very simple ship.  I'm so very in love with the entire project, thank you for sharing it with us all!!

Thanks for sharing your work of art with us Pingo.  You have given me so many ideas for the ship related projects that I have half formed in my head.  It's nice to see such an ambitious project taken from conception to completion.  Well done!

When I think of when you first started this project to where you finished... Wow! That was a lot of work you went through.

Very creative. I hope it inspires a lot of adventures. ::):

      About
      BASE SYSTEM ROOTS
When I moved from hex map to miniature rules gaming, I struggled to find any decent affordable scenery.
Thus I decided to make some myself. These were sold online under the name of Mechanized Designworks. I found many other people liked them.
This led to my decision to make an entire range accessible to the public through DFA, in the form of the BASE System. With your support DFA intends to create the largest range of affordable, high quality modular 6mm scale scenery and buildings. With your continued support, the range has scope to expand indefinitely.
BASE System sections will be made from 3D printed design originals. Each section will be individually hand-finished before casting in resin, creating a high-quality finish suitable for your choice of model paint.
      BASE SYSTEM CORE
       BASE Systems are modular.
Example BASE System layout with stand-alone buildings There are many buildings, from stand-alone structures and themed sets, to totally modular sets that allow players to build a base as big or small as they wish. A host of new building designs and base layouts can be created by simply repositioning individual sections; while the same parts can be endlessly reconfigured to provide new vistas for each game.

If you're looking to build a small outpost or firebase or a big planetary command centre for your games, BASE has you covered. Best of all: because BASE System is modular, you can take it apart and redesign it when setting up your next game.
Infinite possibilities and configurations await with BASE.
Example of a large BASE system layout using modular parts BASE SYSTEM VISUAL
BASE offers a uniform look and feel across sets in the range.
While each module in a set is interchangeable, it will still conform to the overall chosen appearance of your tabletop. In addition, you can make sets look entirely different, yet cohesive, with a few additional components in different paint livery.
      EVOLVING YOUR BASE SYSTEM
Start small and go large … or start big.
Example of a small BASE System layout The choice is yours. The BASE System is available in box sets and individual components. You can evolve your BASE System at your own speed by adding components or sets as and when it suits you. (To help get you started with this, you will also receive two of some buildings at specific pledge levels.)
      Fire Control and HQ buildings
The Repair Bay contains 2 rigs, allowing you to switch between closed and open during your games.
The Geodesic Dome will feature a clear resin casting, allowing you to create features inside the structure.
The Class A Interstellar Communications set is just the first modular BASE system we hope to produce.

These are the two hyenas from Jason Wiebe's 03277: Hyena Pack (2).  I painted them up as spotted hyenas, as that is what they most look like. I find I am enjoying painting realistic mammals because it gives a lot of opportunity for play with a fairly limited palette. (See, for example, how I recently painted wolves and wolves and wolves, and what I learned from doing it.)

I have a photo book of Zimbabwe, so I played a little bit with backgrounds.

So I spotted what looked like a sweet little wolfman, unpainted but inked a little over the metal and glued to a square of wood in a comics shop some while ago and bought it and took it home and pried it off the old base and discovered it said "Grenadier 1987." Score!

Turns out it is a werejackal, coded MM93, and was first released as part of the set "Monster Manuscript Vol. XI" which also included the one Nosferatu-type vampire I didn't have in zer old days from the set of three I painted recently.

Anyhow, I cleaned it up and painted it like a black-backed jackal 'cos they look cool.

This is another of Julie Guthrie's beautiful giant werewolves, part of the Warlord Koborlas faction. This is my second Warlord figure painted. It was an attempt to make a gender-ambiguous werewolf, and as such I shaved down the chest armor a bit. Full WIP here.

Aislinn may be howling or sniffing the air or fighting a giant.  Looking up at any rate.
