Honestly, this is my final, final conclusion (probably): Soldering is the way to go for a precise wire skeleton. Twist-skeletons are fine for some sculpts, but soldering is more precise.

Now I have finally cracked the secret of neat soldering, I can make soldered skeletons in half the time it takes to make twist-wire skeletons.
