Ral Partha Mind Flayer

Recommended Posts

Here is a mind flayer I have had for a long time. I liked him a lot better than the first Ral Partha mind flayer sculpt. When I was thinking of colors for him I was thinking of him clashing with himself, loudly. Being a mind flayer I thought it would be neat if it kind of hurt your head just to look at him. In the end he didn't clash all that badly, but it was fun painting him anyway. If I were to have him perfect his head would contrast with his robe more and his tentacles would fade to bright pink at the tips but I don't know how to glaze yet. Also these pics don't show the highlighting on his robe properly but I kind of like it because my second layer had some blue I mixed in and it makes it look almost iridescent in the right light because there is no blue in the lower layers, only the highest one. Here he is.

As always, C&C are welcome and encouraged!

Edit: forgot to mention I like the beak and how I managed to get a little pinker flesh around it. Kind of gross, but it's supposed to be gross, it's a mind flayer.

Ermagherd, it's a Foglio-style mindflayer!

Why don't they make flayers with hats any more?

This is one of the figures I nabbed from the recent BoGW.  Our group is currently running Rise of the Runelords, so my husband the DM was very happy to gain another ogre.  It is hard to tell in the photos, but the nasty looking sword in back was done in folkart color shift green flash paint for a nasty looking magic weapon.

      Good evening everybody,

Just finished this one last night, an old Ral Partha Robin Hood, sculpted by Dennis Mize with a Citadel Crossover group of figures way back when.

Very classic feel on this one, and of course, even though green was the obvious choice, it ended up taking me forever to figure out where to put what color.  Anyhow, very nice little figure, not too complicated to paint!

Heres another ral partha mini I did at least 20 years ago. She's from the 20th century plus series, spies.

So seeing pingo's old ral partha dwarf seer painted up, I decided to pull out my old one and post it. I think I did this mini over 20 years ago

This is a teeny-tiny old Ral Partha dwarf. I don't know the SKU. Ratmaster2000 identified him as 01-070b, Dwarf Seer w/ Crystal Ball. I suspect he was sculpted by Tom Meier, given the delicacy and the anatomical accuracy.

He is the first dwarf I have finished from the WIP thread Jade Green and Seven Dwarfs: 60184: Meyanda, Android Priestess and a bunch of dwarfs as Exalted Jadeborn.

As ever, comments and critiques are welcome.
