The library is a smallish affair and most of the books are related to cooking, but you do find a few books that are journals from Master Surefoot's adventuring days, most of which detail what he cooked and not what they found or fought.

(4th day of Gateway, Moonday)

You wake in the morning to a light snow falling and frost on the windows. As you headed down to the private dinning room you can smell someone cooking fresh Trout, which reminds you that in three days time, the month of Steelhead starts. The month is named for the Steelhead Trout that is fished heavily on all 42 days of this month. Some of it will be eaten or stored here in Castra Isca, but a good portion of the catches this month will be shipped down river to Hessianburg.

As you enter the private dinning room Desmond is seated at the table chatting with an older gentleman. You recognize the gentleman as Dawien (Day win)Cutburt, who is the head of the fishmonger guild. Both men are eating breakfast and both are still wearing their tabards from the night before. You happen to notice Dawien's coat of arms is two up right fish. Both Desmond and Dawien stand and Dawien will stand and introduce himself to each of you.

Bucky comes in and takes breakfast orders and returns with what ever you have ordered. During breakfast Dawien will ask polite questions in a friendly manner. From the the conversation you can piece together that Dawien is an old family friend who has been elevated to nobility because of the land that he owns and all the fishing business he does. Neo is sitting next to Desmond, happily eating what looks like and smells like trout fillets.

As you finish breakfast, Dawien will say, “ Desmond there is something I need to talk to you all about. I would like to employ you for a job. There have been..” There is a quick rap at the door, followed by Bucky and a flush face boy. “Master Cutburt,” Bucky says, “this boy has a message for you and he says it can NOT wait.”

Master Cutburt, please come quick, Master Hartmann says that the river has turned yellow and it seems to be killing the fishes!” (You all know that, Cator Hartmann is a fisherman and is a friendly rival of Dawien.)

Master Cutburt looks shocked, but recovers quickly. “ Tell Master Hartmann that I am coming.” The boy turns and sprints out of the room.

Master Cutburt turns toward Desmond, “ I have to go check this out. I will return later to discuss a job.”

Desmond quickly says,” I will go with you.”

Me too!”, says Neo.

Master Cutburt, Desmond, and Neo all stand up and head toward the door.

Seeming reasonably well-rested but a bit restless, Gayle just asks Bucky to bring her whatever the chef recommends. She is mostly silent, listening to Dawien and Desmond, occasionally glancing to see if Neo is acting normal again.

When the boy delivers his message, Gayle quirks a brow. She quickly moves to put a hand on Desmond's shoulder when he stands to leave and whispers in his ear, "You know, the fish will die. You do need to find someone who can help Neo understand, not just try to hide what is."

After that, she straightens and says for all to hear, "I am not sure if the sheriff would appreciate us leaving here. That said, by way of a compromise, perhaps we should ask his guards to see us to him and inform the sheriff of the situation. He'll probably see the urgency of it."

Her hand is still on Desmond's shoulder, and he'd realize that albeit gently for now, it is definitely holding him back, suggesting the paladin will rather insist on her proposed compromise.

Desmond looks at Gayle then looks at her hand on his shoulder and shakes his head. “I definitively need to have a talk with your father. I agree with your compromise. Let us go and talk with the Sergeant. Master Cutburt please go ahead and we will be along shortly.”

Master Cutburt nods his understanding and heads out the door.

Desmond turns to the others in the group, “What say you? Do you agree that we should go talk to the guards and see if we can go to the river under escort, or should we just stay here?”

Smiling a little uncertainly, unsure what exactly to make of Desmond's reaction, Gayle withdraws her hand and nods slightly, silently. She seems ready to move out.

"Doing anything is better than staying here, caged in like rats. I vote we try the escort."

You have spent the last twenty minutes outside trying to talk the sergeant at arms into escorting you to the docks, when a young boy runs up, he waits patiently until one of the other guards clears his throat loud enough for the sergeant at arms to take notice. The sergeant at arms listens to what the boy says and takes a slip of paper from him. The sergeant reads the slip of paper and tells one of the men to go get the others.

Soon you are being escorted to the river front by a squad of twelve men and women. The journey is short and uneventful. The crowd gets thicker and thicker as you get closer to the river. Finally you arrive at the rivers edge. Small docks stick out into the broad River Isca. Fishing boat line the docks and rivers edge. You are escorted toward a party the includes Master Cutburt, the sheriff and the baroness and a few others. They are examining a pile of glowing green fish. As you become part of the group you notice that the fish are steelhead trout, which is usually a greyish color or a light green with a pinkish stripe down the center and not the glowing green that lays in a pile before you. One of the fishermen is explaining the the fish were dead even before they were pulled out and that even the water has a greenish streak to it. There is discussion about what is causing this and it decided that the baroness will send an adventuring group to find the reason and deal with it as needed. As the discussion is done, the baroness, Penn and Master Cutburt turn and take notice of you and a smile comes to their faces and as one, they say," I know just the party."

For most of the discussion with the sergeant, Gayle seemed unusually quiet by her standards, appearing mostly trying to back up Desmond while letting him take the lead. Similarly, she rather silently inspected the fish, just mumbling something that vaguely sounded like, "Should've spend a bi more time on alchemy."

Even as baroness, penn and Master Cuthbert turn toward the party, Gayle seems somewhat subdued, offering a nod and a brief, "My Lady, sirs." She seems to be waiting for Desmond to take the lead.

Steelhead 1

You wake up on the morning of the first day of Steelhead. At your meeting on the docks, Desmond accepted the adventuring contract and from there, the last 2 days have been a whirlwind. The rest of that day, the 4th of Gateway, was spent acquiring provisions for the trip and planning. It was decided that there were only two logical places that the greenish streaks could be coming from, the dwarfish mine and Castle Triskelion. The river come directly from Castle Triskelion and a creek from the mine, Mine Creek, feeds into the river.

The provisions include enough food for 10 people for a week, an Adventurer's tent,(a magical tent big enough to hold 10 people, but yet will shrink down to fit in a backpack, warming stones, which when placed inside the tent, will keep the tent at about 65 degrees even when the temperature is below zero and yet will be only slightly warm to the touch, and comes with 10 cots for sleeping.{I am still working on this magic item}), the tent is on loan from the Adventurer's Guild.

You left Castra Isca early on the morning of the 5th of Gateway and followed the river south (*See new map), upon reaching the junction of Mine Creek and the River Isca, the greenish streaks were coming from the Isca and not Mine Creek. So you followed the river towards the castle. The road along the river was overgrown, but still made the trek fairly easy and quick despite the cold and the light snowfall and reduced visibility. The days have been fairly cold with the high on Starday (the day after the dock meeting) of only 21 degrees. Yesterday's high was 18 and there was a light snow fall and today's high promises to be even colder. You arrived last night passing through a fifteen foot gate situated between two small towers in a ten foot high wall erected between to mountain cliffs on either side. The gate was made of wrought iron and it opened easily at your touch.

You rise and step outside the tent and are greeted by a cold winter's morning with a few small snow flakes drifting down. You camped last night just off the road within site of the castle, (see map {OutsideApproach}, (please be aware that on this map North is actually pointing SOUTH!) you will be just off the road near the edge of the map). The castle is made of dressed light and dark gray stone, you can make out the windows of what you assume are the first and second floors and two towers of what is probably the third floor. There is a gradual ramp to the broad and wooden bridge leading up to, one would assume is the front door. to the north of the ramp you can see a meadow, that is probably grassy in the spring and summer, but which ids covered in a light patchy snow. The area that is marked 'stables' on the map is nothing more than a bunch of broken and burned beams.

I await your decision on if you enter the castle or if you turn tail and run.
