Updated CAV:SO Construction Program Information

90 posts in this topic

The Construction Program went to a major update to clean up some code as well as adding data cards for every model currently available in game and a few more to boot (I even put the Scorpion in there for you :).

CAV:SO Construction Program Updated 3/29/2016

The Force Manager is also now available for beta testing on windows based machines. So if you are able, please give it a spin. The FM zip contains the latest CP as well.

If you have any questions on its operation (either program), find a bug, find a model we missed, etc. please submit an email to: bugstomper(at)talon-games(dot)com

The following file compiles all of the data cards from the CAV CP and puts them in one master PDF file.

Data Cards

I have also updated the model list and removed all the color coding so people could stop worrying about what it all meant.

Basic stuff all seems to work so far in CAV:FM. Both programs suffer from a very minor issue: If the user increases the font size on their computer (Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Display, choose Medium or Large) the UI doesn't accommodate that. The font gets bigger but the space available doesn't, so some of the text ends up overlapping stuff etc. Not a very common thing at all for people to run into, I just happen to have it set to Medium because I found it worked better for my Surface Pro. Switch it to Smaller and everything's fine. And it's still useable on Medium, just a little weird looking.

I'll try to find some more time on the weekend to beat up on it in more detail. ::):

I've downloaded the construction program and am still having a problem running it. Note that I am on a Mac and trying to use Wine.

So, once the book comes out, if I decide to try to implement a Mac friendly program, will there be any objections to me distributing it?

CAVBOSS said in another thread it was OK... I've started poking at the idea but haven't had a lot of time for it, and will continue not to have much time for the next little bit, but I'll get back to it before too long. ::):

Here's a thread to talk about it: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/63513-cav-strike-operations-open-source-tool-discussion-thread/

Have you tried to run any other programs through Wine?

I think we may have identified an issue with CAVFM and older model files from CAVCP. If you are having trouble getting FM to launch, this may be it.

To test this, rename the User folder under Models. If the program runs, then that is indeed your issue.

Please do not just delete your model files, unless your keen on starting over. We are working on this issue.

The programs are supposed to be completely backwards compatible, so we will get to the bottom of it. However, if you can't wait, you can try opening each of your user files in the latest build of CAVCP and save them again. This will update them to the latest file version, and hopefully will address your issue.

Thank you kindly, and thank you Brandon for helping us find this problem.

OH! If you have this specific issue and renaming the user models folder fixes it, please let us know at bugstomper(at)talon-games(dot)com. Actually, all bug reports should be reported there. You know it really sucks we have to list an e-mail address like because of spam bots...

No. This is the first time I've tried to run Wine.

Have you looked through the FAQ on WineHQ.org? That page was very helpful to me, when it came to figuring things out.

So I don't think I understand the FM that well but I think That is because I am new to the game. Is there any form a instructions on how this works. I add one Attack group and it said conditions are not met. I add a Recon and the "OK" says ERR and will not let me export to PDF?

I thought is I need to build a complete force (using all TV) with all group types before it will let me be ok?

Really confused...

Getting the book will help immensely...but till that time there is a read me file in the zip that should explain the basic operating instructions for the program. For errors and such please email the bugstomper(at)talon-games(dot)com

CAVBOSS,

Ive noticed that some of the SA's are in the program and some aernt yet I can't for the life of me figure out what weapon/combination gives them. Lock on for example. I've tried all combination of missile boats but can't figure it out. Is the list complete?

Thanks,

Todd

An SA specific to a weapon cant be "equipped" during construction. Only the SAs you can assign show up in the program. After you equip a weapon, look at LOADOUT, the third tab and it will show the weapon system, damage, and SA.

SA: Lock-On is a restricted SA and cannot be equipped. We have reserved some for down the road to use for unique designs and such.

Really confused...

There is a document in the programs root folder called CAV FM README.rtf

This doc goes through all parts of the program and should help you build a force. It will hopefully help you understand the programs functions, but does not explain any of the games rules. Having the rule book will help you understand how to build a complete force and also help you understand why the program allows some things but not others.

FM will only allow you to print or export a legal force. So, any issues with the force not conforming to the rules will result in an error.

When you add a force, you are just adding a place to put units. A container, if you will. First you add a Force (force tab), then add units to that force (units tab).

Hope that helps.

      Greetings All!
Since the release of the new rule-set last year I know I have talked a bit here and there about COG and getting support to those people wishing to run demos and such. The main reason I havent advanced any farther on it is Ive been trying to put a program together that will get the job done and allow players to feel their efforts are appreciated and awarded correctly. Ive looked at other programs out there and haven't seen what I think is required.

So I'm asking for your input. What would make you want to be part of this type of program and get out there to support the game at conventions and your local stores. What do you need from me to be successful and remain engaged over time?

Any input would be much appreciated!

Greeting all! We are starting the roll-out of the updated & new content we have been promising. I have updated the links above and on the web page but I am including them here as well...

First off. the new errata. The majority of it is clarifications and FAQs, but we have made a couple of rule adjustments as a result of feedback from players.

      CAV: SO Errata

With that and the addition of new models from the last KS we have updated the CAV:SO Construction & Force Manager Program. We have added a new tab in the CP that shows a picture of the actual model to help people identify what something is. We will be updating the images later to get a more consistent look but this should work for now.

CAV:SO Construction Program and Force Manager

We have also updated the Master PDF of all the models so that you can have them in one place to view as a whole. Included are models that we are no longer using but have included a data card for those people who still want to use them. These have the (2) as part of their name.

      Data Cards

We also have a new Faction Model List that is now current with all of the designs currently in the game.

      Faction Model List

I am still getting the color data cards and the new Flashpoint ready so stay tuned as we get those out as well! Enjoy!

      Hi all,

So... I have a short attention span.  This is evidenced by me deciding to take up yet another side project- this time in anticipation of finally receiving my starter rulebook for CAV:SO from reaper this week.

Reaper's CAV line is the only line of minis that are not fantasy (or 40k), and the only line of minis that I have that are not in the 25-28mm range.  As such, I don't have much good terrain for them yet.

I have been a fan of paper terrain for awhile, ever since discovering world works games and Dave Graffam's stuff.  Upon starting to look around I also found a surprising variety of free paper building templates for a variety of scales- most of which are based in Europe.

So I downloaded a few of those, and then also purchased this pdf from Dave Graffam, which allows me to make office buildings of several sizes and colors that fold flat when not in use, allowing me to store an entire city in a tiny box.  Pretty awesome, especially for 3 bucks.

I also found some shipping container templates. Check it out!

I made almost 20 buildings in two evenings:

      An action shot:

      The terrans get ambushed!

      View from above:

And folded (mostly) flat for storage (the folded buildings are on bottom):
