Mierce Miniatures - Mighty Monsters

Recommended Posts

I reserve the right to express my concern regardless of how much I've spent, or how much it disturbs you Cash. Maybe put me on 'mute'

Dan - we could have an epic battle. I approve of this transparency.

I don't think there is anything wrong with people repeating their concerns.

It allows people to see the pros and cons for a particular company.

I wish I knew about some companies prior to backing rather then just reading how great they are and great guys and everything is great great great ... Then I have a problem and find out I'm not the only one and it's not unusual for them (not just specific to this company)

I'm not trying to mute you, Beagle, nor does it disturb me. I just find it odd you continue to do the same thing and then complain about the results every time. *shrug*

As far as my defense of Mierce, I just feel like if I don't speak up people will get a false impression that this is some terrible company, when (other than Bathory's shipping issue, which she has had with an honestly disturbing amount of good companies!), they've been one of the very best companies I've dealt with, out of hundreds of mini manufacturers. I'm happy to have everyone's experiences on record for people to review, as long as it sticks to reality and not perceived situations.

No ones knocking Mierce beyond pointing out that they're tardy with shipping, which they seem to be, and that their business model gives cause for concern, especially with the Maelstrom Games debacle lurking in the shadows.

On a personal level you only hear me whining about the 20% of projects I've backed which have not gone well.

The problem with their business model isn't that it's ks based, CMoN is 100% this now, nor the maelstrom debacle, agan CMoN did something similar before they became CMoN, its that they have huge production queues for a game that really only has about 200 consistent buyers. Rob is trying to grow the game at the same speed as Warmahordes or infinity while at the same time producing new miniatures to sell to the limited group that back each kickstarter as once a model is shipped to backers it pretty much no longer generates new income for Rob as there's no new people joining the fold nor any real distributors for the game. Thus the need for a new kser as soon as possible.

With the releae of the book and soon to be releasing. Of the cheaper metal starters, and Rob just needs to suck it up and call them that as for some reason he dispises naming conventions that are common in the industry and it just confuses people, the game should hopefully get some traction. If not I expect there process will stay the same--selling really expensive resin to a tiny group of people that will pay for it until they no longer pull in enough to pay the bills.

I'm not worries about Rob funding old stuff with money from newer ones (as there's no evidence that's happening) I'm worried about him not being able to pay his employees and keep the lights on as that's what will happen first.

Yes exactly. And on a purely selfish note I'm concerned that that may be only one failed Kickstarter away from happening.

I'd put it at 2 or 3 which I'll get into later. But if he was pulling in backer numbers in the thousand plus I wouldn't be worried but each ks gets smaller generally.

I do think Rob is stubborn enough to try to solo the company and get things out to people as long as he made enough from ks to live but that would put things back years and he wouldn't last long I suppose.

@Beagle

You should see my list of completed orders. I think that is 2 pages at the moment.

And I have not had any issues with Mierce thus far. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt until I have reason to do otherwise. Once, they even replaced an entire shipment even though I was only missing a few items.

Finally, getting this back on topic...did you guys see the turtle beast? And I hear turtle men will eventually be a new realm for the Khthones. They will be mine...someday.

Once things get farther along in the sculpting process I'll pick up crab people and the giant crab. Though I am picking up a metal jute set via this kser which makes me happy.

Also worth noting that they just added some monster hosts for a few quid less then what they've been selling for in previous kickstarters. Just paid 100£ for the fen beasts and now they're 93£. Not a huge deal I guess.

While there are some interesting sculpts here, I'm holding to my Mierce policy of no new orders until I see the first one.

And an alternate Krull for £75?  That's just madness!

My main gripe is when they release another Krull with minor modifications

Oh, I don't care about the alternate version.  It's the price that's exciting.  But I think I like the axe better....  I could sell the existing one and just wait for this one.  Not like I'm going to be painting it in the near future.  Decisions, decisions....

The alternatives don't bother me either. They take so little time to get done and no one is forced to buy them. I actually own a few as I liked the new version over the original. Of course I don't own the original. Talking about monsters here as the alternate humans really don't bother me as they're switching between weapons they have in the stats and they're only like $10.

I did not see this posted anywhere so I thought I'd share. KAMB is an easy to learn, fast paced RPG where you play a Kobold. You die, a lot. They're celebrating their 20th anniversary and are running a kickstarter to re-release the original zine that started it all, but with better rules. I play this every year at Origins in a 100 player game called the Kobold Midnight Massacre and can confirm that it's a great time of silly hijinks and horrible death checks

I haven’t backed any of Bears Heads kickstarters yet, but I’ve been tempted by everyone.
This is the one that I give in to.
      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/98300108/narthoks-the-excellent
But hurry! It’s funded with ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT!

As nice as that sculpt is, it’s the sci-fi and bartender versions I’m most excited about. The stretch goals for those have been reached, but only concept drawings are available to show.

I think these are great unique looking eye beasts.
@TheAuldGrump maybe something you could use for your campaign?
