Reaper Bones Shadow Hound (SKU 77366)

Very nice!

When I'm up to painting again, I need to do something similar to that but I'll be painting the Shadows (4 of them!). What colors did you use? I'm looking at going with Tamiya clear blue myself. thou I may experiment first.

Awesome job

Thanks!

It has been almost 2 months since I painted this, but I will try to remember what paints I used.

I am fairly certain I "primed" with brush on sealer, and that the primary purple used was Reaper 9023 Imperial Purple.  The darker areas has Reaper 9280 NIghtmare Black (a wonderful very dark blue), and the brighter blue was Nightmare back mixed with white I think.  Hope this helps.

I agree. This is an extremely nice version of this mini. Thanks for sharing the paints used.

I'm generally NOT fond of transparent minis (I have painted most of mine from Bones 1... opaque).  This is well done, and it fits together nicely.  That, and it makes me want to paint one similarly (scribbles into the seventh notebook of "minis I need to pick up at some point").

Finished this miniature today for my Wrath of the Righteous campaign. Part of a LOT of demons. He has more slime on his base then the picture brings out, but he was fun to paint and actually sorta quick due to some airbrush work.

This thread is shamelessly ripping off a wonderful idea from our goblin friend @buglips*the*goblin from this thread way back around Bones KS1 days.

The intent of this thread is to have lots of people post WIP shots of their Bones Sophie paint jobs. Here are the minis to pick from (SKUs to be updated here soon):

From Left to Right: KS2 Trollslayer Sophie 77370, KS3 Sophie the Sage 77491, KS4 Innkeeper Sophie, KS4 Small World Sophie, Sir Forscale
(Note that Sir Forscale is just that, for scale. He is not part of this for WIP purposes.)

There is no time limit or set starting date. If you come across this thread long after I have posted it and want to join, feel free.

      Quick ground rules:
      1. Only Bones Sophie is allowed. There are four of them (unless I somehow missed one).

      2. Try to limit yourself to a few posts a day, though. No reason to flood this thread too much. (Unless this doesn't pick up interest and it is just me, lol).

      3. Watch the side conversations. Ideally this is primarily WIP pics and some direct conversation to help encourage or guide the painters.

      4. If this picks up lots of interest, we will use one Show Off thread as to not overwhelm that thread too badly.

      5. Play nice. This is meant to encourage people to paint. I am hoping we get painters of all levels of ability. Encourage people to join in. The more the merrier.

Feel free to PM me with questions or concerns. I will try to update this thread with any clarifications or whatnot.

Alright, now let's get this party started!

The female changed from being a Storm Giant to being a Cloud Giant between the kickstarter and the retail release of the miniature. Whatever the subtype, she still gets a case of Smurfette syndrome.

The pose of the female is a bit strange, and she does have a certain supermodel-vibe going on. Reaper has explained that the pose was meant to illustrate her bending down to talk to someone human sized, and as such it is not too bad. But taken out of context it just comes off as a bit cheesecake-ish. Reaper has acknowledged that the pose did not work as intended. The swimsuit-like corset really does not help to avoid this impression at all.
Again, a mini with a slight case of bendyweaponitis. (which, in fact, is the proper scientific name for it). Treated with hot water then cold to straighten out the worst of it.

I based her on a 50mm round lipped base.

Storm Giant. Or Blue Zeus if you will.

Being from the first Bones kickstarter, this mini is in the softer material. That big sword there was a noodle when I received it. I repositioned it with hot water, and again, it is for the most part OK even if it is slightly bent, it is only apparent from certain angles.
Also, it has a mould line indentation groove going down the front shoulder that I probably should have filled, as it became very apparent after painting.
I based it on a 76mm bespoke 3Dprinted round lipped base.

For some reason, the female is quite a lot smaller than the male. Say what you will, they certainly are giant sized when compared with humans!
I chose to paint them as Papa Smurf and Smurfette, just because.

In the third kickstarter Reaper started redoing the Giants, replacing them with significantly larger versions of previously released ones. These have not been remade (yet). I would expect them to do that in the expected-to-be-upcoming fifth kickstarter, as they have recently shown off a print of the same female figure in a different pose and at about twice the size.

The second of the day's random bones is the Flesh Golem from the third kickstarter.

Basically your Frankenstein's Monster. There was a flesh golem in the first kickstarter as well, but this one is larger, fatter and he has got technological bits sticking out here and there.
I painted the different parts in several distinct fleshtones, but the subsequent wash with Druuchi Violet and Athonian Camoshade evened out the colour significantly more than I expected. The purple seams I painstakingly painted in more or less dissappeared! The ripped pants started out dark blue green, but ended up dark brown.
Apart from the drying time I spent maybe half an hour on this mini.
