Resolutionary Painting Challenge 2017 Chatter/Questions

Recommended Posts

For the sake of argument, slasher style movies (Saw, Friday the 13th, the Ring, most scifi channel originals even if they're not technically horror) fall in as Horror classic. Do you have a specific in mind?

Also: Stay tuned on Wednesday....

What an excellent thread to find. this year I had decided to try for one mini a week - It seems I'm already working on the challenge! unfortunately, it looks like Ill only complete 7 miniatures in jan-feb, but I'll catch up - I swear! So far I'm attacking the shelf of shame without mercy; i'm hoping to clean it out.

I also have some sculpting goals to reach this year, so there will probably be plenty of small filler minis (vermin, skeletons, etc), but hey, they've got to be painted sometime, too.

This weekend I'll retroactively update my jan-feb log, and try to catch up before the next cycle. the bonus challenges look fun, Ill have to try some out!

Just joined the site not too long ago and I'm almost finished with my first wip. Right now, I can't really keep up with the challenge. (Full time job, grad school, and kids.)

Is it cool to jump in in June and just see how far I get? I doubt I'll hit 52 for the year, but I should at least knock out May/June/July/August. I'm a teacher, so I'm off for the summer.

My understanding (open to correction) is that the RPChallenge is a just vehicle to encourage more painting, with a friendly scoring system to keep track.

I'm not the organizer, but I'm pretty certain that HDClearmans understanding is correct.

Jump on in, Pineapple!

That's correct, basically it's just fun and games to get the creative juices flowing. As I said in another thread: The rules are made up and the points don't matter.

On that note: may will be up...eitherrrr...tomorrow or Sunday.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

The new (May/June) thread will be delayed a bit. NomadZeke messaged me on FaceBook; he's got a some real life issues going on that he needs to deal with. He said he'd try to get to it this week.

Take care Zeke.  No rush.

Bump for getting the May/June thread started.

Now that Bones 3 is rolling out, there's probably going to be a new flurry of painting.

Painted mainly just by drybrushing. The sculpt screamed grizzly bear, so I tried to emulate those colors.

I think this is my quickest figure yet, and one of my favorites. Any advice and critiques are appreciated!

My first figure of the year, and also my first speedpaint (AKA I tried not to get perfectionist over every detail)

I followed the kit's instructions on the cloak, then did my own thing on the rest, which accidentally wound up being pretty similar to most of the other ltpk Anirions I've seen.

This wasn't my favorite sculpt, and the mold lines were terrible, especially on her hand, but I was able to practice and learn a lot by painting her. Any critiques and advice for future figures are welcome and appreciated!

So, since the RPChallenge Requests a Show-Off, here's my first point for this year! I'm really proud of her!
I'm not sure which of the starting survivors she is, but...

      Better Pictures (edit):

Critique would be appreciated. I will admit, I used too light a skin color for the OSL to look right over, and it is toned down enough that you can't really tell in person. I wanted to give the lantern a soft glow, rather than a bright one, to capture the hopelessness that is Kingdom Death.

      Hi all,

In case you couldn't tell, I am trying to upgrade my current painting gear to something that gives me more capability to expand my skill base.  One thing I have recently considered is magnification.

I have heard some folks use reading glasses, and a few that use desk mounted magnifiers.  For those that use them, what makes them worth it? (FWIW, my eyesight is 20/20, I am just trying to get closer without putting the mini right into my face).

      I'm kinda on time!

Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual.

All the information you need should be here.

Due to the revised format, there will be more than one bonus challenge available for this month. Including a "Hard mode" which Is some combination that may or may not have a source behind it.

      Your challenge is: 8!

      Bonus Challenge: The First!
      Frostbite:
Considering the sheer cold that's gripping most of us as of this posting: Paint a mini that looks like they've been outside in the winter a little too long - snow in the hair, icicles on shields, etc. Have fun with it

      Bonus Challenge: The Second!
Our annual challenge returns. February Fingerpaint!
      This is pretty self explanatory.

      Hard Mode Challenge!
      Pending...

      Good luck

The game is made up and the points don't matter
