Tyranny of Dragons: Hoard of the Dragon Queen

Recommended Posts

Haldir: Dodge action gives the cultist disadvantage.

I just rolled a second attack and got another 16+3=19.  So, the damage stands.

There are two cultists in melee with you.  Everything else in this group is either asleep or dead.

Talbard steps up to attack C5.

He clobbers it over the head, caving in his skull.

Klaus gets his revenge on C6, slashing it through the throat, killing it instantly.

Now what?

For the group trying to burn down the back door, yes.

Some are asleep, so be very, very quiet!

This is a bit OOC but given they're asleep, that'd make em prone and incapacitated, right?
We should be able to one-shot them dead...

The way we've always played is that coup-de-grace'ing sleeping or paralyzed enemies is an evil act akin to murder.

It would have alignment repercussions.

That leaves most adventurers in a position of "wake them up and let them defend themselves or surrender," "tie them up," or "let them go."

Tie them up adds the hassles of keeping prisoners, but it is doable.

Let them go adds the uncertainty of a). are they going to come up behind you, sneak up on you, and become an adversary again? or b). are they going to go tell their superiors about the party of adventurers messing up their plans, or c). are they going to go off on their own, see the error of their ways, and give up the life of crime/banditry/etc.

For the purposes of this adventure, I was opting more towards letting a sleeping dog lie, and considering them defeated by the sleep spell.

If you all want to do something different, I'll let you do whatever you want and handle it however you want.

I'm trying to approach this realistically from a character mentality. The temple is under siege, the raiders are all over the town, tying them up or taking them prisoner is going to take time we don't have, leaving them there risks them being found by a patrol and being woken up and back to being a problem. Also metagaming, I know the sleep spell lasts only a minute. Daton might not but I think Deckard would.

Although... Now that I think about it...

This might not be the 100% pure Lawful Good Paladin thing to do... but if we can identify a "leader" amongst the sleeping...

Maybe we can intimidate him into telling his buddies trying to break in the back door (we know they're there right?) that they were successful breaching the front entrance and have things under control and the 2nd group can leave? Some of us with ranged weapons could keep juuuuust out of sight of the rear group but in sight of the guy ready to put arrows and bolts in him if he tries anything funny?

What does everyone else think?

I also agree with just leaving them.  Even if we have to deal with them later, we took down the other ones pretty easy.

"As much as I'd like to wipe em all out, I will concur with leaving the rest. The people in the church are what's important."

I will lead the way into the building, if possible.

The back door is locked.

The small windows are smashed open, you could try to convince the inhabitants to let you in/come out with a Charisma(Persuasion) check.

Daton's gonna shout over the window (are they low enough for him to peek in at all?)

"Hello in there! We are here to help! We are a paladin of Lathander, a cleric of Tyr and a few other valiant and stalwart warriors whose religious devotion I can neither confirm or deny. Please open the doors and follow us, we have a path to the safety of the keep and time is of the essence! We are willing to toss in as many fallen raiders as we can to prove our goodwill."

Charisma... 14+3... 17.

Gonna use the Help action if I can

(advantage on the next ability roll)

"A little bit of Clangeddin & a little bit of Moradin here!!!"

Klaus will add to Daton's speech when he says religious devotion....

That'd give me advantage on that Persuasion check then?

EDIT: Just to speed things up in case I do get advantage, I'll roll it now:
5 + 3 = 8

Glad my first roll was decent. XD

The BBC Achieve posted this great clip to their facebook page of a TV segment about role-playing games from 1980.  It's a super time capsule of old games and figures...

So I'm going to be starting a dwarven reclamation campaign in the fall, and I had 2 copies of the Dwarf butcher. I though it would be perfect to do one as a living butcher (who I can also use as an NPC townie) and his barbarian ancestor spirit that I can put on the table when he's a ragin'.
So far the living butcher is mostly done (need to do his base and some touchups - I don't know how all of you are doing the eyes, because I can't see them even with a visor), and the ghostly ancestor is mostly done minus the ghostly glow I'll be drybrushing later. I do have a few process pics to post.

This is a re-paint of one of Wizards of the Coast's pre-painted plastic D&D miniatures. According to the information moulded under the base, it's a Lich Necromancer.

I tried to get his cloak looking like a fairly freshly flayed skin, though with fairly limited success.

WotC's pre-painted miniatures are extremely variable in quality, both in sculpting and in painting. This isn't one of their best in either respect, but neither is it one of their worst.

In 1980 (ish) I got my hands on the original D&D game and played with my friends. Over the years, I fell in love with all of the books, especially the Fiend Folio. That COVER! Emmanuel's painting of the Githyanki! Man it is awesome.
Then, In high school, I used to charge a whopping 50 bucks to hand-paint denim jacket back-panels for all of the metalheads and rockers. My favorite ones to paint, of course, were Iron Maiden's album covers. Derek Riggs' amazing paintings of Eddie blew my high school kid mind.

One day while painting a version of KILLERS by Iron Maiden, it struck me how similar it was to the old FIEND FOLIO cover. I thought that one day it would be fun to draw up a mix of the two.

The original painting was done on a denim jacket, which sold at an art show, just like the old days. Since then, lots of folks have asked me to put the design onto T-Shirts, so I figured this would be a good way to get them out there!
      Boom.
      SHIRT DETAILS
Shirt Brand and Material: This is an American Apparel T-shirt. It is black, 100 percent cotton on the sleeves and back, and soft poly on the front panel, The result is a vintage feel, super soft, medium-light weight shirt that feels great and shows bright colors. It is a slim fit, 4.4 oz., side-seamed t-shirt.
Sizes: The shirts are available in the standard "unisex" American Apparel sizes of Small through XXL.
Printing Method: These shirts are printed using a Dye-Sublimation process. It is an amazing process that gives photographic results while keeping the fabric incredibly soft. You have probably seen this printing method used on mousepads and game-mats. I did not want such a huge print to make the shirt feel like a plastic suit of armor, so silkscreening was not considered. The shirt printer has warned me that there may be small, white spots near the very edges of the art, in the underarms or edges. However, the sample that I ordered is perfect except when really stretched out, as you can see in the photos below.

      TWO WEEK PROJECT
Spread the word! If you know anyone that would be psyched for the shirt, pass along the link. The project is just a short, two week window.
      ORDERING DETAILS
Backerkit: As with my past projects, I will be using Backerkit as a checkout system. This is a very flexible system that allows backers to order exactly what they want and lets us communicate after the project ends.
Ordering more than one? Multiple people have asked me how to buy more than one. This option will be available as an "add on" upon checkout within the backerkit that you receive as a backer.
Shipping Costs: We are using USPS priority shipping.
Returns: These shirts will be custom printed-to-order. This means that I am not creating large quantities and selling from that stock. I will be making only the shirts that have been ordered and therefore will not be able to accept returns. Thank you for understanding.
*Please note that this project is not affiliated with Iron Maiden, TSR, Hasbro or Wizards of the Coast.
