just received amazing "Toy Soilders and Lollies" from Pochi.

these are incredible!  I love the dress, and the little stand that works for either figure.   Elder spawn spotted the fish right away, ill have to go back and find the frog.

You did an excellent job on the water effects too, I am glad you stretched yourself ;)

saving the lollies for after dinner.

If you have pictures go ahead and post them, other wise ill try taking photos in a few days.

The frog came off? Grrrr. I really thought between sticking him down and the water effects, and the foam packing, he would stay put. (Insert bad words!) I fought that base for 2 weeks!

Glad you like them! I will make a couple show offs for them!

No I found it, it was just hiding.  but the green is not as vivid as the photo? It is a lovely piece and the whole family admired them before devouring the candy.  The elder spawn is building a diorama as well, and wanted to know that you used for the water.  I wonder if I can convince her to try a fish....

The water is resin that I bought from Bunnings (think Lowe's or Home Depot). You need it to be the kind of resin that is for jewelry. There is also a catalyst you need to add to it to make it set hard. I used a couple drops of Army Painter green wash to get the green color. The fish and frog are from Busch Small Animals pack.

If your spawn needs/wants any advice, I can point you/her to the tutorial I used for the water. It is actually here on Reaper.

Just a reminder to everyone that May 15th is coming up soon.  You have about a month to get those minis out.

Goodness, I've been so busy! I spent a good chunk of time painting in the Hangouts, but I had to paint in the living area with really dim lights; my husband was on another call in our room. So I kinda winged it without trying to strain my eyes too much. I was a little worried that I'd basically be redoing all that work once I got back to the room, but after lining some of the edges with Corporeal Shadow, I'm actually pretty pleased! It's very pastel and floaty. I like it, and I hope my exchange partner will too! I'm hoping to finish painting this weekend, and have it based early next week. I have no idea how I'll base it yet.

If you don't want to be surprised, you can look! Normally I would say that anyone can see it and be fine, as it's zoomed in to just a tiny portion, but the way y'all find out mystery minis in 0.025 seconds is a talent indeed... :;):

As I'm sure most of you do in these exchanges, I end up picking parts of the request to focus on.  In this case I went with a winter base and OSL.  Generally when we think of OSL we think of a mini painted with a zenithal light source and then the OSL is a secondary light source that colors part of the mini.  I decided to do something different though and make the OSL my primary light source.  Initially I wasn't going to have any secondary lighting, but that made things a bit boring from certain angles so I added in some moonlight.

In the scene below the primary light source is the end of the staff.  Anything illuminated by the staff I painted "normally," though with the highlights and shadows were orientated to it and not zenithal.  Anything not lit by the staff is lit by desaturated  "moonlight."  For some reason I had difficulty getting the light balance correct on the photos  but it's still pretty close.

The mini itself.  Here we start with normal colors:

But as we get to her back the light desaturates until eventually the light source is blocked.  Also, a bit of freehand.  And a bit of milliput dust on the black base.  It wiped off but I didn't redo the photo shoot.

From the side you can see how I tried to put all of the highlights towards the staff with deeper shadows further away.

The base.  So far the battle has not gone well for the undead.  I cut two of them apart so they could be caught in the moment of being blown apart.  The inner light is a bit subtler on the armored skeleton.  The eyes are so deep that you can only see the brightest parts from a very small angle.  Now that I think about it I would have been better off to fill the sockets and freehand the surface.  Ah well, for next time.  :

Here's probably the angles where you can really see the desturated vs lit areas best.

And the top view.  I don't currently have a way to do a light box for this angle on something this size so it is just sitting out on the table.  I think these might have turned out the most color accurate though.  I used some crackle medium to make the ice, and didn't realize that it did not adhere very well.  My first drybrush took some of it off and I had to put it back in place.  One thing I couldn't quite decide on was the cast shadows.  Normally I just consider the scene to just end like it has been chopped off, but that leaves a gap of vertical snow in some places.  Maybe I should have taken them down to the wooden base...

I had initially planned on more freehand, but ran out of time.

      Thanks for looking.

Welcome everyone, to the 2016 Secret Sophie thread!

What is Secret Sophie, you ask?  Well, it's a lot like Secret Santa, with a more attractive (albeit more dangerous) delivery person!  (For those not in the know, Sophie the Succubus is Reaper's mascot.)  This is the time of year for Reaper forumites to give a little holiday cheer to each other.  Unlike most of the exchanges we do on the forums, this will have two categories - miniature and gift exchange and gift-only exchange.  Signups will run from October 1st to October 10, with the assignments going out around the 15th.

If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me with the questionnaire below filled out.  The organizers (fanguad, SGHawkins09) then match you with a person to whom you will send your gift/mini, and another person from whom you will receive a gift/mini from in return (sometimes it's the same person). Halfway through the exchange, you'll need to send the organizers a WIP.  You have until the deadline to send your gift/mini out. That's pretty much it, feel free to ask questions in this thread, or PM them to me.

This exchange is based on trust.  Please be respectful of the fact that someone else is investing their time, money and energy into painting a mini for you.  I am simply the organizer, but I will do everything I can to make sure that everyone who paints a miniature receives one.

      The Rules (tl;dr version)
Gifts should be primarily new, Reaper-branded presents. Exchanging painted miniatures is optional. Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Painters must send the organizers a WIP of their mini by December 1st. The deadline for non-painters to mail their items is December 15th.  The deadline for painters is January 15th. Full Rules
Decide whether you are doing gift and miniature exchange or gift-only exchange. "Gifts" are Reaper paints, unpainted miniatures, or other Reaper painting supplies.  Recommended dollar value of gifts is $25 or less. The miniature exchange is where you paint a Reaper miniature for someone and mail it to them.  If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. Non-Reaper items may be included, but the focus of this event is on Reaper items, so keep them in the minority. Fill out the appropriate sections of the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM.  Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed.  I am going to be a little stricter than normal about filling in all the questions and may send it back for clarification if you don't. Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't. In order to encourage people to start painting early, you will need to post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini to either this thread, or as a reply to your organizer, by December 1st.  The mini should be at least base-coated by this time.  If you don't post a WIP by this point, I may have to demote you to gift-only or drop you from the exchange.  Please don't make me do this. Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline.  Let an organizer know if you are going to be late. In the past some people have wanted to send food - please verify allergens, etc. with your partner before proceeding. If you are mailing internationally and plan to send more than just miniatures/paint, you must contact your recipient to get any "bonus items" approved.  We don't want any trouble with customs.  As an example, plant matter or powders can cause a lot of trouble. The organizers (fanguad, SGHawkins09) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner. Have fun! Deadline
The deadline for mailing gifts is December 15th.
The deadline for mailing exchange miniatures is January 15th, but it's even better if you can get them out by Christmas.

      Assignments Deadline
The organizers will send the assignments out in about two weeks (October 15th).  Please let me know if you're interested by the 10th.  I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements.

      Exchange Assistant
SGHawkins will be helping me run this exchange.  She will coordinate and communicate with approximately half the participants.  You can contact either of us if you have any questions or issues.

Notes: Consider this a non-binding word of inspiration for your partner.  If they’re stuck and can’t figure out what to paint, maybe this will help them.  No need to repeat your preferences above.  You partner may ignore this question if they already have an idea from the your previously answered questions.

      -Personal Information-
      Will you ship internationally? Yes
Notes: Be aware that postage costs will be higher than domestic postage.  If you mail internationally, you will need permission from your partner to include other gift items so that we don’t run afoul of customs.  Most participants in these exchanges are located in the USA.
Would you be willing to have multiple exchange partners? Yes, I love painting!
Notes: If yes, specify if there is a limit (though it is unlikely we'll ask you to do more than 2)

Notes: You can contact them directly to work out details or ask for advice.  We will attempt to match people with similar preferences, but can’t guarantee this is the case.
Is there anybody you would prefer not to paint for?  (please include why)    I painted for johndoe123 in the last miniature exchange.
Notes:  If you like to paint for a variety of different people, you can list those you’ve painted for in the past.  We will do our best to pair you with someone new.  Another situation is that you know certain people in real life, and would prefer to paint for someone you don’t know.

      -Special Requests-
For the organizer, your painter, or your recipient:

Also, if anyone has a holiday-themed miniature you've painted that I can use to grace the OP of this topic, send me a PM with a link to forum thread or inspiration gallery entry.

When I fill out my questionnaire for the exchanges, I like to give lots of options for people to choice from.  For example, I mention that I have CAV:SO figures (and hope to play someday....).  One of the other things I mention is that I collect rabbit minis (it all goes back to the Doom Bunny...).
I never really thought anyone would ever combine those two....

What an awesome and creative piece Kangaroorex came up with!  I love it!!
(Although I may never look at a Starhawk VI the same way....)
I don't know where he found the little car but it is perfect.
