Room booked! *dances*

I'll be renting a car on Wednesday and driving from Austin to Denton. Return on Monday. I should have space for one other, but since I'll have a wheelchair or walker (depending on which I get), plus my suitcase and supplies, I cannot guarantee more space. I may have that space claimed by a non-forumite, but will have to check with him if he's going.

From hotel to the con, I'll likely have more space, but will be first come, first served. At least one lunch run space to Taco Bell is reserved for Buglips since I already promised.

Wondering what it would cost to rent a mini van, and if anyone would like to chip in for rides to and from the hotel to the con, and at least 1 trip to the factory....

Not that there was ever a problem riding the shuttle to and from the hotel in the am, most evenings I caught a ride with someone (Thanks Dusty!!!!, Dilvish and I still owe you a bottle of the Honey Bourbon....) but I wonder if there are late night shenanigans at the con site....

And I missed out on the factory tour due to issues on Sunday morning with the bus running out of / low on fuel and not coming back.....

Just a random thought, if folks would be interested in sharing the cost.....

George

Not really at the Con site. Granted there are people finishing up games or minis & packing up, but most of the action is back at the hotels.

Now if the Con was still fully at the hotel people would be digging through the melt table at 1 am. People painting late all the while chatting up a storm. ::):

From my experience renting cars in other cities, minivans tend to be pretty pricey. We had to find a rental arrangement at Christmas for 8 people and the far cheapest option was to rent two compact cars. Really once you're looking at seats for more than 5 the price starts to jump fast.

Not that I've even got agreement in principle that we should go to ReaperCon, but I'm still hoping.

I'll talk to Mr. Thorne; nothing's been set even in plaster on our end.

The morning shuttle was a great solution to get to the con. But as you say, it was missing out on after con hours late night shenanigans that got me.

So yeah, I thought about renting.

I will say generally there is room for 2 in the back seat of my ride to the Con each morning. (I ride with Rastl almost every morning)

Passengers welcomed!

Yup. Haldir (who doesn't look like his avatar) is my point man when it comes to offering up rides. He'll also know my flight schedule and will help coordinate with that.

Why don't I just do it myself? He's here a LOT more than I am and far more well known. And it gives him something to do.   :poke:

The hotel offered to come get people at the convention site outside their normal transport times if you called the front desk and asked.

Which one? The HGI?

It looks like the block hotels are a fair distance from the event venue itself. Are there any group transportation arrangements or is it every nerd for themselves (rental/rideshare/bus)? Is there anything going on in the "hotel" area that you want to be nearby for?

There might be hotel transportation (at least the HGI as it was last year. I'm not exactly sure of this year), also fellow con-goers are your friends when it comes to rides as well.

About the only thing that goes on at the hotel is the after Con get togethers (causal drinking, BSing, etc etc).

I'm not sure how here reads Figure Painter Magazine, but for those interested, there is a nice write-up on ReaperCon 2016 in the current issue (#44).

This issue also contains an interview with Marike Reimer.  Worth the read.

There has been some talk on the boards of people's costumes, the wearing of them and how they change things and what people are working on.

So I'd like to throw open the question, What is your costume?

It can be any approach.  Are you working on one now?  Are you a fan who appreciates them but doesn't make them?  Do you have a favorite costume?  Do you have favorite memories of one?  Do you like realism, or abstraction, history, sci fi, or fantasy?  Does costuming connect to your gaming or other hobbies?  When and where do you wear costumes?  Are you making something for another person?  Or for a doll maybe?  What's your favorite one you've seen?  What would you make if you had the materials and time?

      ***

      I'll start.

I have a reproduction late-eighteenth century dress in a big floral print in shades of red and blue on white, complete with undergarments, big pockets, mitts, a ruffled cap, and cocked hat that I had been wearing to our neighborhood's annual Fourth of July parade.

But I've been feeling weirder about it in the last few years since late eighteenth century dress has become political in a direction I am not.

So I've found myself turning towards the struggles of the Suffragists a century ago.  I've been reading old mail order catalogues from the First World War and checking out the eminently practical suits women wore at the time -- big pockets everywhere!

At this point I have plans for nearly everything except a suit.  I have undergear and petticoats, a blouse, nearly acceptable shoes, hats to be modified, a good pattern for spats, and a pageant-style banner edged with green and purple ribbon* ready to be painted front and back with "Votes for Women".

At this point it would be nice to make a historically accurate suit, but looking at what I have, I think it would be a fairly convincing impression with any reasonably matched jacket and calf-length skirt.

*Those are the colors of the English suffragists, not the US ones, but I'm okay with that.

This was a promo mini I got at ReaperCon 2016 from the swag bag.  He's from Endless Fantasy Tactics.  Had him sitting primed, ready to go for a bit now.  Goal: get something painted and done without worrying too much since this week was stressful.

I picked up the backdrop at the same con from Hangar 18.

I know it is early days, but for those of you plan on coming to ReaperCon from outside the USA, don't forget to check your passports are up to date for next October......

This has been a public service announcement from your Friendly Neighborhood Drow.....

Hello again, everyone!  It's been a little while, but I finally have another mini to show off!  If you're curious, you can check out her work-in-progress thread here.

I had an absolute heart attack right as I was putting the finishing touches on the mini:  I almost dropped her!  I ended up catching her against my box of bases at the last second, but the force actually bent the barrel of her rifle, and cracked the paint!  I think I was able to straighten it out, and there did not appear to be any chipped paint, so hopefully I am in the clear, but my heart probably just died a little...

Originally, I tried to modify her to make her more of a werewolf hunter and wanted to put her on an elaborate base, but somehow that never quite came together.  In the end, she just looks like a more modern Western-themed mini.

Anyway, without any further ado, here she is!

Thanks a bunch for looking, and I hope you like here!
