About this project

Rising Sun is a board game for 3 to 5 players set in legendary feudal Japan. As the Kami descend from the heavens to reshape the land in their image, it is up to each player to lead their clan to victory. Use politics to further your cause, negotiate to seek the most profitable alliances, worship the Kami to gain their favor, recruit monsters out of legend to bolster your forces, and use your resources wisely to be victorious in battle.

Created by acclaimed designer Eric M. Lang, Rising Sun reunites the same creative forces responsible for the smash hit Blood Rage, with stunning artwork by Adrian Smith and intricate miniatures sculpted under the direction of Mike McVey.

Choose your clan: Koi, Dragonfly, Bonsai, Lotus or Turtle. Choose your clan: Koi, Dragonfly, Bonsai, Lotus or Turtle.

Each of the five clans in Rising Sun brings not only their own individual set of ten beautifully detailed miniatures for their Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi units, but also a unique ability that sets them apart from the others and affects all players' strategies.

Koi (Flow, Like Water) - Ever adaptable, the Koi clan is able to use hired Ronin as coins and vice versa, giving them great flexibility and making their decisions very unpredictable.

Koi Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi. Koi Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi.

Dragonfly (Wings, Wind and Spirit) - Flying on gossamer wings, the Dragonfly clan is able to move anywhere on the map without restriction. You never know where they'll strike next.

Dragonfly Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi. Dragonfly Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi.

Bonsai (Humility, Earth and Root) - Ever growing and evergreen, the Bonsai clan needs to spend no coins when buying resources. Strongholds sprout from the ground and Upgrades to the clan blossom naturally.

Bonsai Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi. Bonsai Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi.

Lotus (Patience is key) - The Lotus clan dictates the flow of politics by turning the Political Mandates they play into anything they wish. A powerful ally to have at your side, and a terrible foe to betray.

Lotus Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi. Lotus Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi.

Turtle (Hard as the mind; delicate as steel) - The Turtle clan builds their Strongholds on top of the shells of giant legendary turtles. These indestructible fortresses can move around the map and even join in the fights for the provinces.

Turtle Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi. Turtle Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi.

Played over the course of a year, each Season in Rising Sun is divided into a Political phase, where players prepare their clans and set their plans in motion, and a War Phase, where dominance over each of the contested provinces is decided.

The Political Mandates. The Political Mandates.

During the Political phase, players choose among a restricted selection for a Political Mandate to play. These determine the actions all players may perform. They can Recruit new units on their Strongholds, Marshal their forces across the map, Train to upgrade their clan with Season cards, Harvest to reap the rewards of the provinces they dominate, or even Betray their ally to bring opposing forces to their side.

When players perform a Train Political Mandate, they are able to spend their coins to upgrade their clans with Season cards that bring all manner of new abilities. From Virtues that give you bonuses according to your actions, to Enhancements that improve your clan, to powerful Monsters that may join your clan, bringing with them amazing strength or other more devious benefits.

Komainu, Yurei and Oni of Spite. Komainu, Yurei and Oni of Spite.

Oni of Skulls and Oni of Souls. Oni of Skulls and Oni of Souls.

Oni of Hate and Oni of Blood. Oni of Hate and Oni of Blood.

River Dragon (all monsters are to scale with this human figure). River Dragon (all monsters are to scale with this human figure).

Alliances are formed. Alliances are broken. Alliances are formed. Alliances are broken.

At the start of each Season, players engage in a tea ceremony to negotiate new Alliances. Having the right ally and playing for mutual benefit (for a time) is often key to victory. Allies don't kill each other during war, and they also grant each other a unique bonus whenever they play a Political Mandate. Recruit extra units, build Strongholds when you Marshal, save coins when you Train, and reap a bountiful Harvest. However, the enticing Betrayal option always casts a shadow of doubt over Alliances.

eb7dcbd7bd589de411419c8db0f83b7e_origina

Do not be too quick to Betray your ally, though, for such an action brings dishonor to your clan. Honor is a tangible force in Rising Sun. Clans are always competing on a ladder for who is more or less honorable than the other. Having more Honor than your opponent gives you the upper hand on any ties in the game, from a dispute when worshipping a Kami, to deadly war on the provinces. But occasionally being dishonorable might also be a valid strategy, for upgrades such as the nightmarish Oni often favor those at the bottom of the Honor scale.

The Kami await the worshippers. The Kami await the worshippers.

When players Recruit their forces, they may choose to send their Shinto warriors to climb the mountains and go worship the mighty Kami. Three times per Season, each of these gods will grant their blessing upon the clan who worships them the most. The competition for the grace of the Kami can become fierce and change the course of the game. Each Kami grants a different benefit, from increased Honor, to extra Bushi, Ronin or coins. Only four of the seven Kami are used in each game, creating different dynamics each time you play.

Each Season ends with the War phase. In each of the contested provinces, the warring players secretly bid their coins on the different War Advantages. Only the winner in each of the different options is allowed to execute them, allowing for dramatic shifts in the outcome of each battle, or cunning players coming out ahead even in defeat. Bluff your way through impossible odds and trick your opponents into needlessly wasting their coins. Sometimes losing a battle may win you the war.

When Winter comes, all politics and fighting are over. Players gain extra points for winning battles in as many different provinces as possible, and also for certain upgrades they may have gathered. As the snow falls, the new Emperor will ascend!

I definitely don't need another board game or more minis... but these look pretty darn amazing. I especially like the okobo sandals on the last figure.

I will try to get in on this one.. But many good projects coming. CMON means this will be a $100 or $120 buy in, before add ons.

If you are not working 25 hours a day you are obviously not working hard enough to afford this and other Kickstarters.

Fortunately for me, I have a friend that loves Asian themed games. So I'll just be a spectator on this one. Unless another crossover appears....

I've been watching Adrian tease images of this for months...  Soo tempted by it but KDM was supposed to be my before last KS with Bones IV wrapping it up...  Will have to roll a will save when the time comes.

Unless CMON does something different, I'm probably in for the core and KS Exclusives.  Reading some of the gameplay notes on their page on Diplomacy, Negotiation and Combat was pretty enlightening.  And let's face it, I was the only kid I knew that watched the miniseries and read the book.  Probably read it at least three times by the time I graduated high school.  When I'm home sick, I will still often watch it on DVD because I know it will be 9 hours of Anjin-san with some really cool snippets of Feudel Japanese culture.

      About this project
This is my first set of TerraScapes.  I present to you a natural Caves & Grottos core set. With the full range of double sided modular tiles, you can quickly create ultra-realistic cavern scenarios for any of your spelunking adventures! If you've ever found yourself in a cave, you know how under represented they are in the games that we love to play. There is nothing linear about spelunking and caverns aren't flat! Caves are twisted sections of open air encased by cool moist rocky walls.  That's why I've coined this terrain as a Nonlinear Modular Terrain System, and it's a new way of dressing your Tabletop with functional, dynamic terrain for all your Tabletop RPG's!
TerraScapes: Caves and Grottos strives to simulate natural terrain for optimal immersion and strategic playability. To maximize the possibilities every tile is double sided! This means that with every tile you get twice the possible play space! Both tops and bottoms of each tile can be used in your layouts!  Each tile is designed to work like a table where instead of legs, you have stalactites and large rocks. It allows you to stack them up however you want! This gives your layout real depth and introduces a whole new dimension for increased strategical encounters. Whether it's for your big boss battle, wargame or random encounter, everything you'll need for an endless tactical cavern layout comes with our set of Caves & Grottos!
This video shows how to build an endless array of immersive caverns for your tabletop!
What's in the Full Set?  I have a ton of tiles prototyped and ready for this campaign.  If everything is unlocked we will have 9 Core double-sided tiles, 3 exclusive large  double-sided KS tiles, 2 Rock Packs which include a total of 8 double-sided rocks and rock/well combinations, 2 sets of Stalactite risers containing a total of 4 risers, 3 double-sided flowstone/pit centerpieces and 4 packs of double-sided wall sections containing 8 wall sections.  This is everything you'll need to bring to life any dynamic cavern scenario that you could possibly dream up!  You can purchase any of these Packs of tiles or accessories as Add-ons as they are unlocked during this campaign by managing your pledge amount and adding their cost(s).  If you are bad with arithmetic, just send me a message and I'll give you hand personally!
I know, I know...  I'm getting ahead of myself here!  When the campaign launches we'll only have the three tiles from Core Pack:A, and the exclusive KS:1 tiles available.  Whenever we unlock another Core Pack, I will also unlock another exclusive KS tile for you to snatch up!  I am fairly confident that we are going to smash through almost every stretch goal I have planned.
Core Pack:A Random Layout with KS Tile:1  With the exception of the Stalac-Packs, note that every terrain piece in TerraScapes is double-sided. The following graphics depict both the tops and bottoms of every piece and are not separate pieces offered with the packs.  The sizes listed are in terms of tile height.  So a Size 2 piece is two tiles high.  A Size 3 piece is 3 tiles high.
Please Manage your Pledge if you would like to add-on any pieces.  A survey will be sent after the Kickstarter has concluded for you to list which add-ons and options (like paint schemes) you would like.  All shipping charges will be handled by a Third Party Pledge Manager after the Kickstarter as well.  You will have until December 1st, 2017 to update your Pledge using this Pledge Manager
3 Core Pack:A tiles and the first Exclusive KS Tile:1 As each set of new tiles and accessories are unlocked we will journey deeper into what TerraScapes: Caves and Grottos has to offer any story.  During this campaign, your very pledges will move a group of adventurers through the deep, exploring the sets that you unlock.  Our heroes fate will depend upon your support!  When the campaign ends, our adventurers will either perish or succeed in escaping these deep Caves & Grottos!
      Core Pack:A, KS Tile:1 and Rocks & Wells Pack:A
Rock & Wells Pack:A contains four Size 1 Risers
Stalac-Pack:A contains two Size 2 Risers

Core Pack:B Random Layout with KS Tile:2

      About this project
Add extra depth to your gaming sessions with Adventure Realm RPG Game Tiles – Castles and Dungeons set. We want to create a set of 16 eight inch square tiles with full colour printing on both sides, giving you over 2000 square inches of mapping artwork for your gaming. Each tile has one inch square grid subtly included on the images, making them ideal for integrating with your miniatures and roleplaying.  They are made on thick card and are gloss laminated to be compatible with dry-wipe marker pens.

On one side of the tiles are sixteen top down view castle tiles, ideal for quickly putting together a city wall or castle complex for your adventurers to explore. The castle tiles comprise the following:

      1 x Wall outward corner, 4 x Wall inward corner, 1 x Gate, 5 x Straight walls, 1 x Dungeon entrance, 1 x Well courtyard, 1 x Grassed courtyard, 1 x Keep roof, 1 x Fenced corral

The castle tiles can be put together to make a complete small stronghold (above), while two sets give you plenty of options for an entire fortress (just one example given below).

Turn the castle images over and you have 16 dungeon tiles, all in full colour, giving you a flexible warren of corridors and rooms to battle through.  The dungeon tiles include:
      1 x Throne room, 1 x Tower stair well, 1 x Cellar stairs, 1 x Prison cells, 1 x Torture chamber, 1 x Demonic temple, 1 x Carpeted corridor, 1 x T Junction stairs, 1 x Circular pit, 1 x Wizards tower, 1 x Corner corridor, 1 x Storage room, 1 x Guard chamber, 1 x Tower chambers, 1 x Grassland secret entrance, 1 x Water secret entrance

The dungeon tiles can create the area underneath a castle, or be used in their own right for quickly assembling evocative dungeon scenes for adventurers to explore.
This is our second Kickstarter project for the Adventure Realm series, with our first set of tiles successfully funded in November 2016.  The Castle and Dungeon set will work seamlessly with the original Town and Wilderness set.  So if you want a city wall between the town buildings and the great outdoors, now you can!
Or you can expand your townscape to include fortified areas, underground  spaces, etc.
If you missed the Kickstarter for Town and Wilderness you can add that set to your pledge to make even bigger adventuring worlds.

A set of 13 detailed male & female 28mm scale gnome miniatures, suitable for all your Fantasy miniature games, from Midlam Miniatures.

      About this project
The Baron of Midlam, on dealing with the matter of the 'Winter Adventurers' returned home to Midlam Manor, to a most alarming sight.  For there, at the end of his estate, at the bottom of the garden, was a hill, where previously, there had been no hill.
Fortunately the Wizard Gudgrief had accompanied him, and was quick with sage advice.  "I fear my Lord, that you have a mild infestation of gnomes, the common or garden sort.  Quite harmless, I assure you... "
The Baron did not look best pleased, for this was Midlam Manor, his supposedly secret retreat, far from the hustle and bustle and plotting and scheming of Midlam Town.  And now there were gnomes here.
Gudgrief, sensing the Baron's dismay was quick to step in.  "You'll find they are no bother, indeed, they are good at tending gardens so they team with flowers, will protect your grounds from wild animals and alert you to the coming of foes.  Other than that, you'll hardly know they are here... harrumph, apart from the hills of course... they do so like to build hills..."
Midlam Miniatures are pleased to present a collection of thirteen 28mm scale figures, for all of your Fantasy games. There are a variety of both male and female gnome miniatures.
