I decided to start painting up minis for my various PCs

-An unidentified Grenadier Halfling fighter (chain & shield) as Lvl 7 Rogue, Magnus Perrywhimple (soon to be con only)

-Mystic Theurge as Lvl 1 Monk/ Lvl 1 Rogue Stede Blackthumb (Acolyte of Candlekeep),  on an acquisition mission to atone for learning and copying ritual magic without permission

-Juliette, as Lvl 1 Half Drow Sorceress, Grz'zilda (the Ghastly Gourmet) who was rescued from Hillsfar and while hiding her heritage is now adventuring.

I've done a few passes at a few things. But not full base coats yet. Photos later.

Stede wears robes that are a base of Creamy Ivory, and his pouch and shoes are made of Snakebite Leather.

Magnus carries a steel shortsword, steel chain, and a steel shield, because he's a professional adventurer, don'tcha know?

Juliette's robe is a lovely mix of Breonne Blue and Spectral Glow. Her skin is a shade of Dark Elf Shadow with a layer of Tanned Skin makeup. Her shoes and pouch are also Snakebite Leather.

All are lined with Brown Liner.

I read the title and wondered why you would want several Personal Computers during Spring...

Your version is of course better!

Looking forward to see the painted party.

Can you really have too many PCs? I mean you get one for work, one for home, one for gaming . . . :P

Brown leather pants to come for Magnus. Skin & metal highlights too.

Shading not too visible for Grz'zilda's clothes. How do I fix her half-drow skin?  Palomino gold girdle? Hair is dark brown with a lock of white.

Stede has a lot of junk I'm going to try and ignore. My linen recipe is not showing any of the highlights up to linen white. I hope the shadows next do the trick. Anybody know what that hafted weapon on his belt is?

Magnus has been identified as Grenadier FP823 (Halfling Scout), though the base lists PF23. Julie Guthrie sculpt in the Fantasy Personality line.

Cool party. What do you think needs fixing for the half drows skin? It could use some deeper shadows and higher highlights but over all, I like the tone. It looks nice with that pretty blue. Palomino gold for the girdle would look nice. For the white on Stede, glaze some of that palamino gold into the shadows and reclaim your highlights. I can't find the tutorial I always reference when doing white...I'll share when I find it. It's a great tutorial.

Stede is wearing linen, so I wasn't planning on it being super bleached. I still haven't done the shade from my usual, which is bone. I may try the palomino mixed in- I have done that before.

I feel like Juliette's legs don't have much definition, so highlighting them realistically  will be weird. I did find a version in show off that I can copy. I'm going to do a wash next then build up... see what kinda shadow needs reclaiming. Things got s bit slopped on when my dollar store go to brush finally died. Just won't repoint.

I see, I hate when detail is soft on minis. So frustrating. I suggest giving them a wash like you planned. See what happens. get yourself a new brush. You deserve it. :poke:

I have plenty of brushes. I pulled one of the good ones off the shelf because I'm going to have to do eyes soon. It's weird that the equivalent to #3+ cheap brush held out longer than all but my best quality brushes. Better point, better snap, bigger belly. Of course, if I was having a bad day with brush control... guaranteed tabletop, but whatever. Mostly I paint for stress relief and to try one new thing.

Paint done this morning.

Magnus is mostly done. I need to fix his base, touch up his skin and face. I'm not sure about eyes, they're about half normally too small.

Everybody has hair now too, and got a flesh wash. Stede's robes look a bit better - not sure how stuff will show up in photo.

No pics because I'm doing more later.

A little bit of work tonight - pics in the morning.

Fixing the weird dirty bits on Stede, doing some more basic coverage (Stede's cudgel and book, Grz'zilda's scroll case and component pouch, and other stuff), highlighting hair, attempting eyes. Magnus is basically done now. I just need to finish up his base.

2 pair of eyes worked out as minor level ups, one pair looks like googly-eyes.

I still don't know what that thing is on Stede's belt... a cudgel? I don't care. I'm painting it metal.

Nothing too exciting, just yet another example of my tabletop painting.
har har har... Sorry couldn't resist.

But these  were actually really quick. (I had remembered my wood formula by then. Of course I yet again didn't write it down, cause I always think, "I'll remember." )

Ok this took me a very long time to do. I hope you enjoy but some background first.

Mashaaf is one of my favorite miniatures from bones 2 and I was eager to paint her up. I couldn't settle on a color for the skin and nothing looked right. I ended up repainting her 4 times and figured I'd go down with the ship this time and this is how she turned out.  Not to bad if I do say so myself.

So I have a way of grabbing some terrain items for a 'quick' paint job, and it turning out to be not so quick. See what I mean with the Bones book cases, and barrels, some cows, and the Bones 1 caskets.

I should have known better when I sat down to knock out just a couple of beds. Well... maybe they don't look as good as I think they do, because I know how much bleeding time I put into them, and maybe I've gotten some Stockholm syndrome towards them.

      I'll let you all decide.

And just because, Here's a Pig to wrap in all those blankets.

Let me know what you all think.

      Thanks for looking!

It's been a while since I did a WIP. I suck at them. As you can see, this mini is like 15 steps already into it. But i just got my camera working, so that's my excuse.

Anyways, I wanted to share my thoughts, and get people's opinions.

My thought is: I'm tired of the old stereotypes of Good. Why can't red stand for the passion and the blood sacrifice of the innocents bravely giving their life to protect freedom? Why can't a pillar of good be based on black marble?

So I am trying for an overall feeling of good to radiate from these pillars. It's not there yet, because that is going to be relayed mostly through color. I will be using more and more warmer tones as I work the various surfaces up to their final highlights.

Nothing is currently done on these things yet. I want to put a couple washes in a few spots on the marble, and then that will be done. (All except the final gloss coat of course.)

The red areas will be brightened. I believe with oranges and yellows to give them more of a warm glow.

As you can see from the lady on the right, the female statues will actually be done in white marble. I am in the process of building up the highlights (and smoothing them out) on the right. After I get the highlights and contrast done, then I'll put in some veining. I expect the higher highlights to be in even warmer tones.

All the edging, and wings will be done in true metallic metals. Right now the one on the left is done in P3 Blighted Gold, and the right Scale 45 Necro Gold. The difference is harder to tell in RL, so it's interesting there is more difference in the photograph. I will probably continue to highlight up in the Scale 45 Gold series.

I haven't decided if I am going to do Gold details on the scrollwork detail on the caps of the pillars. I'll see after I get the rest of the gold done.

The sword will be done in True Metallics Silver.

The details on the base of the column will probably also be gold. Though if there is too much gold everywhere else, I will contemplate Silver.

The plants on the base will be done in lush spring green colors, and the roses will probably not be red, I am going to shift them either orange or yellow, because otherwise there might be too much red on the mini. It all depends on how it balances.

I haven't decided how I am going to paint the plant pots. My current thoughts are: White, terracotta, brass, silver, or gold. We will see what is needed to balance composition and keep the eye moving.

So I grabbed these to paint them up 'real quick'. This is always what happens.

(Note: I am doing these gals in my 'Pseudo-tabletop' style, as in, I'm going for 'look nice', without taking all the time to work up from thin layers, as I would for display. )

      But C&C is always welcome.

I had a bunch of new figures arrive the other day. I am trying to decide which set to paint up first. Any thoughts?
Here are the new fishmen, a mind flayer, and an evil cleric of the sea:

I'd like to paint up this guy to be a green and/or bronze dragon:

A storm and a cloud giant:

      Two more dancing girls:

A marid and a hippocampus chariot:

      So, which one first?
