Question for Tuesday, April 18th

Did you get your taxes done and turned in? If you're getting a refund, any fun plans for it?

Yes, a few weeks ago, and even that was enough that my federal refund has already been deposited into my account.

As for the second part, I guess it depends on what you would consider fun.  I dropped the whole amount in my "hobby" sub account, so I can do whatever I want with it.  But, realistically right now, time is much shorter than money, so there isn't much that I could buy that I'd get more use out of than what I already have.  So it's waiting for a rainy hobby day...

taxes done like a week or two ago.

I will be spending the $100-$5000 on debt sadly.

Though nearly every episode of every judge show on TV leads me to believe I should borrow $5000 from a family member and offer to pay them back when I get it.

For those who aren't under the thumb of the IRS, do you like the tax system your country uses?

I'm in Hong Kong and we have a relatively simple tax system which in itself is great.

Taxes done and refund completely spent paying bills and funding car repairs over a month ago...

We paid a couple thousand (Mostly in city taxes because my husband's job doesn't collect them since that job is based in another city).

Taxes done a week or so ago. Much later than usual. Will likely go towards getting the rest of my roof done.

This time of year I am reminded of a song from Mad Magazine #58 (1960) "Carols for all Occasions"  that my father taught me years ago.

(to the tune of "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear"

They come on April Fifthteenth, dear,

To take away our gold;

Taxmen, undaunted by plea or tear,

It makes your blood run cold.

Oh, Income Tax!

You break our backs!

The government takes all.

A thief by any other name,

Would never have such gall!

May, 2005 was the last time.  Next time will, hopefully, be sometime next year (and with luck) will only move once next year (we're going to be building a house hopefully so we may end up having to move to a rental for a few months since we don't want to carry two mortgages).

2008...

Next move will be sooner than I'd like.  There are reasons, and the loss of my job is likely impending due to health issues (and lack of being able to perform being due to said issues).  Customer Service is a bear that way.

July 4th, 1996 we moved into our current house.  We plan on staying here until our youngest graduates (5 years) because the schools are fantastic here.  After that, I plan on downsizing, because I really do not want to spend so much time keeping up my property anymore; I'd rather be sculpting, casting, painting, fishing, hiking, etc...

The last time I moved was 9 years ago this month. The next move will be in 2-4 weeks as I finally get to move up to NYC and live with my wife!

Last moved into the new house on 3/2/17.  This was the 4th move in 5 years.

We'll be here for two years and hopefully the next move will be the last for a while.  At least until the last kid graduates high school.
