Round Pewter Bases Retired?

9 posts in this topic

What happened to the scenic metal bases?  That's all.  I need more of both sizes.  There seem to be none.

More variety would even be better.

Thanks

Hey, welcome to the forums!

Not sure I recall Reaper making scenic metal bases.  Sure it was them?

I bought 74019: 1" Square Scenic Bases (4) $8.79 x2 in January...

So they were well over $2 each.

So far I've used exactly 0 of them...

Frankly, they're not all that impressive.

I'd just buy a crate of Reaper's square or round bases, some epoxy putty(GreenStuff or Milliput) and a roller from The World of Green Stuff, or possibly a stamp from one of the many suppliers(The Bakers of Wargames, or possibly Smiling Oriental Suicide)

I expect the scenic bases were discontinued because of low sales.

(Some sites may still have stock)

Those parts were discontinued earlier this year.

We found we were unable to offer a superior quality product, or a better price, than companies such as Happy Seppuku, Secret Weapon, Basius, and others.

It seems that the metal bases are being discontinued...?

Say it ain't say, Joe!

I guess I'm old-school.

But I like the pewter figs, and I like to put them on pewter bases.

The plastic figs and bases are fine to fill-in for hoards of bad-guys.

But I usually end up custom painting figs for my players (of their characters).

They're gifts to my players (and sometimes they're hard to give away!).

But metal bases just convey a better quality and permanence than the cheap plastics.

Metal figs, should have (the option for) metal bases.

I'm willing to scour Ebay for metal bases if I must.  But I'd much rather send the money to you!

Please, please!   Bring back the metal bases (specifically, the 1" Round Lip).

Metal bases was discontinued a last year, I think. They just don't sell in numbers that makes sense economically.

You can make similar pattern bases using stamps or rollers from lots of online stores, and for a lot less money, so the market really isn't there any more.

A quick search on 'scenic bases' would have found this little snippet of evidence, and the mystery should have been unraveled:

I need to look for an alternative cause I used my last reaper round metal base. Really liked those bases.

For circular metal bases, you might want to look at coins. In the US, a penny is 19mm, a nickel is 22mm, and a quarter is 24mm (within the margin of error you could expect from a caster or die punch). Add a bit of putty and you should be right where you want to be.

Fender Washers

if one is too thin, they can be stacked. Available in both metric and inch-based sizes.
