HIIIII ...!

So, someone opened a FLGS someplace where I don't have to fight my way through stupid to get to it, and they have space and interest in hosting painting days! YUS!

All I need is some more interested people and some dates/times when they can come down and paint.

My schedule is generally flexible. Weekends alternate (this is a 'free' weekend. Next, I expect to be gaming. And so on).

South Hill Games is the intended gathering point. They have a Bookface presence, but their real website isn't up yet (.. and I'm not sure I am allowed to link it when it is). Go forth and Google. Once I have some tentative dates and interested parties, I will ping them via Bookface and see which can be best fit in.

Who's in?

I have to do this everyday but I've never heard it phrased so eloquently.

Could not help but like it. ::):

Why not? Transportation ..? I has a sad. ::(:

There is food ... well .. food.. ^^; near by; I count a pizza place, something thai and a good pancake house in the same lot, if food is an issue. I have not asked what the food policy in the shop is, but I have seen people nomming on stuff there, so I can but imagine there is a food-okay policy of some sort in place.

I'm definitely a "maybe", it would be a bit of a drive to get there (I'm 45 min from SeaTac) but traffic would be less evil on the weekend, I suspect.

Right? Heck, we occasionally get it into our heads to get on an airplane for three or four days of it... >.>

Ahem. Barring once-yearly gatherings, I was thinking once a month. Probably a weekend; Friday or Saturday or somesuch. Most likely sometime between noon and ... ???

NEMPA does ours roughly once a month on a Saturday, scheduling permitting... Sometimes we miss a month when everyone's busy, but usually we have at least three or four folks show up. (Well, admittedly, sometimes those three or four people arrive in one or two cars, but still... lol.)

The actual location is a bit further than SeaTac airport, but yes, it's not crazy far. It's more an issue of scheduling & babysitting.

If I thought they were old enough to be handed a cheap brush and a plastic orc I'd say, 'yes, and? Bring them!' - but the way you say that suggests they haven't reached that level of coordination yet, or are generally disinterested... >.>

Unless somebody up and tells me different, I'm generally aiming for 'Saturday'. Maybe not this month?

Barring Paizocon, which I have to check scheduling (so far they've managed to hit our gaming weekends pretty well dead-on every time), if this month.. .. the twentieth is probably too soon. June second is free, and seems more likely?

I got a PM-ping too, so the interest is real. I has a squee. ^^;

Mostly because of working graveyard. My hours of wakefulness are rather backwards. And also driving through Tacoma.

I don't know. Depending on the time, I might be willing to do it on a Friday night. Probably not on Saturday night, that's our gaming night and that's difficult to rearrange.

I'd love to go though...

I'm definitely interested, missed this thread entirely until this morning. Saturdays probably work best for me since Sundays are either family day or game days. Fridays are iffy but might be doable depending on the time and I'm not all that far away so it's more likely that I could actually go.

Friday evening/afternoon might be titchy (they seem ot have some kind of miniature-related sportsbrawl thing on Friday evenings); but I can check it; they might be able to free up a couple of tables if we're on their schedule. And Friday for me is usually safe-ish.

Looks like we definitely have weekend, though.

Alright. So, I managed to forget about this until yesterday, at which point I said, 'eh, we'll be out tomorrow' ...

Which we were. I suspect one of the end results of that is going to be a hefty Reaper order, but never mind. >.>

Anyway. I have possible days! Soonest would be June 3rd. They also think they have space enough that we could do one on the 17th, which is International RPG Day, if we're into that. July .. *eyes calendar* .. Somebody said second, that ain't right; that's a Sunday. Either way, that weekend was also suggested. Who's in for which?

I could probably do the 3rd. I'd have to ask husband about the 17th since I think he's got a game day around then. I'll double check when husband gets home.

ETA: I'm definitely free the 3rd and as of now that weekend in July.

      I'm kinda on time!

Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual.
      http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72577-resolutionary-painting-challenge-2017-chatterquestions/
All the information you need should be here.

Due to the revised format, there will be more than one bonus challenge available for this month. Including a "Hard mode" which Is some combination that may or may not have a source behind it.

      Your challenge is: 9!

      Bonus Challenge: The First!
      (Is this a re-hash? I don't recall.)
Fall! Modify/paint a mini/minis to be falling/fallen. (Translate fallen how you will.)

      Bonus Challenge: The Second!
December 14th is National Bouillabaisse Day.  For those unfamiliar, this is a Fish Stew from southern France. Paint a mini that incorporates a fish motif.

      Hard Mode Challenge!
      Under Wraps:
Paint a mini so that anything that any armor-weapons-cloth-etc looks like it's patterned wrapping paper. This is assuming a humanoid figure. Dragons or such apply the same challenge to the whole body.

      Stop the presses!
      Bonus, The third!
With the breaking news of our beloved space pope leaving Reaper - let's see what you can paint up as a tribute to him. Bonus points for actually making a "bryanzilla" mini accurate to the avatar.

      Good luck

The game is made up and the points don't matter

[MOD]Please use the full SKU and name of Reaper minis in the titles of your Show Off threads, per forum guidelines. You can find this information on the blister card or in the online store. I also like to give credit to the sculptor in a tag, so people can find their favorites.

We have a high volume of posts generated from this challenge, which is great! But it's also creating a lot of work for the mods. Ladystorm has already urged folks to comply with these guidelines.[/MOD]

      Important Change!
As an experiment, this project has been moved to be a bi-monthly challenge. The longer time frame theoretically will give less stress to painting, and allow more complex jobs, and more sinister challenges.

      FAQ
      Reaper only? - No.
If going on vacation, can I paint a mini(s) ahead to cover that time frame? - Yes.
Are speed paints acceptable - Yes.
Can it be a mini started previously? - Yes.
      Based or unbased? - Yes.
Do minis for exchanges count? - Yes.

      NEW RULE - Size Equivilancy
(This list is subject to change as bones 3 releases)
Medium and smaller = 1 ea
Simple Terrain (plain floors, walls) = 1ea
Complex Terrain (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Terrain/latest/03518 or such) = 2 ea
Large (Giants and the like) = 2 ea
Huge (Most dragons, Demon Minotaur Lord, etc) = 3 ea
Bigger (Kally, Khanjirra, etc) = half of quota – rounded up
      Colossal ("Tianot,") = quota

Due to the variable nature of a CAV I compare them against a generic 28mm figure and the Avatar large figure. I take height and bulk into considering if it is worth 1 or 2 figures.
If it's not in this list, it counts as 1.
      Thunderbird
      Emperor
      Ronin
      Simba
      Tiamat
      Katana
      Tyrant
      Starhawk
      Regent
      Cataphract
      Silverback
      Kraken

If you have a question on the size, please post it here, and I'll address them individually.

Much like last year, the idea is to help those of us that normally paint VERY little, to start painting more.

      You challenge begins...now!

      And Our Mantra:

      Participants:
If your name is missing, or you believe your count is incorrect, please PM me. Please note: to make counts easier, you must post in the bi-monthly thread.

      The objective:
To paint 52+ minis throughout the course of the year via bi-monthly quota
(each bi-monthly thread will have the quota listed as well as the master list)

      What qualifies:
      Darn near anything!
      Reaper/non-reaper!
      Any material!
Shelf of shame minis from ages long forgotten!
      Exchange minis!
      Speed paints!
Armies! (Though I'd encourage perhaps something outside the army as well)
      Any Size!
      Based/unbased!
Etc! (I think that covers everything)

I'm starting to get lost here, so I figured I'd make an index of stuff I've posted. Many of these are loaded with enough pics and text that they're almost mini-tutorials. Questions and comments are always welcome. If you don't get a reply within a couple days, find me on Facebook, or add me on Battle.net (Xumenicus#1118).

      Bonus Challenge: The First!
September 25th is national comic book day! Paint a mini to resemble a comic book character of your choice (Bonus points* for any from the "League of regrettable superheroes/supervillains"

      Bonus Challenge: The Second!
3 Families of color only. The 'typical' halloween colors of orange, purple, and black. You can only use colors that have "orange" "purple" or "black" as part of their names, and all 3 colors must be present on the figure.

      Hard Mode Challenge!
Modify a mini (besides the gelatinous cube/large fire elemental) to have an actual flickering light-source inside of it (with the battery concealed somehow), like a jack-o-lantern. The more creative the better, obviously.

      Good luck

Hello every body, this will be here not to show off anything amazing or impressive. Just something that took me five and a half hours to do. Nothing to impressive or anything like that. Its a fairly simple paint job for this old miniature. It has been sitting on my portable painting desk for many years now, and I felt like it was time to finally paint it. So I could use it in Dungeons and Dragons if I ever played a Dwarf again or just to use in anything with Dwarves in it really. With the new system of being able to upload photos straight to here from a device, it may be a little weird. I have never used the new Reaper system for photos so lets see how it works. I will still be explaining everything to the best of my ability. All of the paints i used besides one were all Reaper Paints. So, lets get started.

Okay, so these four photos are of the Dwarf miniature as a whole. I had to paint over the entire mini with black because it had taken some damage to the prime that covers it. After i had painted the entire thing I let it dry and took the pictures so I wouldn't forget to take them.

Next I painted on the metallic colors that i knew i was going to do and I could see. This included the small amount of Chain mail showing under his massive beard, the large Warhammer and his shiled. These were done first in Shadowed Steel. Then I did the few detail pieces that I wanted in Antique Gold. After I painted those few things I realized that I hadn't painted the Rune Stone he is standing on. So I quickly mixed up a wash of the color... well Stone. I forget who the Stone wash is made by but I added some water and I think Glaze Medium. Chaoshead will yell at me in the comments to tell me i'm wrong since i was using most of his paints. Anyways, I did a couple of coats of the Stone wash and moved on to let that dry for a while.

While I was letting the Stone wash dry I went on to other colors. I pulled the Rainy Grey out to do the fur that lines the inside of his cape, not realizing I had missed some it will show up later. This step was fairly easy when I was painting it on, but then again the entire thing to me seemed easy and I don't really know why.

After the inside of the cape i moved on wards and started to paint Leather. I used Ruddy Leather for anything leather on the Miniature. I started with the gloves then moved on afterwards.

Alright, in these few photos I painted more leather onto his sleeves, belt pouch, boots and the bottom of his Chain mail shirt. This step frustrated me because I accidentally painted over some of the metal, so I had to go back and paint the metallics again. I then moved on to some detail work that may have taken the most time to do... I think.

On the Rune Stone, I used Breonne Blue to add some color to the... Stone. XD I wanted to paint the runes from the beginning of this small project. I think the Breonne was a good choice for the runes in the first place.

Here I had finally painted his massive beard. I used Mahogany Brown for his beard since it was the only one within my small amount of paints that would work. I liked my choice of color for his beard though.

In these three i painted the trim of the cape with the Ruddy Leather. I painted it very carefully to make sure I didn't get any on anything else. I already had to repaint Metallic colors earlier and i didn't want to do it again.

Continuing with the cape i painted it Leaf Green and had to do it a couple of times to make sure it was one solid color.

Painted the face with Tanned Skin and then used Grass Green to paint his eyes. Again this is all just a super simple paint job for this mini and is just meant to be a good, fun, little thing I like to do.

As a final thing to finish this Miniature off was a nice little touch that I thought of last second. I painted the small heart on his cape with Blood Red.

The Dwarf is done! He is done in all of the simplest ways to paint that I know how. XD If you all enjoyed and have some tips or anything to leave for myself. Please leave a comment and i guess stay tuned to here or another one I post in the future.
