Trying to understand Bulky as it applies to vehicles.

4 posts in this topic

I'm trying to understand how the Special Ability (SA) Bulky applies to vehicles.

I have a primary attack squad which I built using the CAV Force Manager that includes:

  • 1x Naginato [veh]
  • 3x Wolves [veh]
  • 1x Talon CAV.

All of the vehicles have the Bulky rule in the print out that the software makes.

The rules say that an attack squad must have between 4 and 6 Vehicle/CAV models in it and that SA: Bulky models count as 2 models for squad size.

  1. So my attack squad can include at maximum 3 Bulky vehicles and no other models?
  2. My Talon CAV (Recon) is bigger than my tanks but it is not Bulky...?
  3. The software appears to let me build an illegal attack squad. I have 4 SA: Bulky vehicles and a Recon CAV in it but I don't see any errors listed anywhere.

What am I missing...?

Thanks for your help!

The Bulky SA has the effect of reducing the minimum squad size to (2). Minimum size met with just two (bulky) vehicles.

It is an Ability, never a liability. So it doesn't count when figuring the max squad size.

Per the current errata we have removed Bulky from consideration when determining squad size. It only counts for transportation purposes going forward. The current version of the software program has already been updated with this change. As a result you only have to have 4-6 actual models in the squad. So you could have 6 bulky models in one squad should you so choose.

I genuinely appreciate everyone's responses but especially those of CAVBOSS. There aren't many games where the staff directly answer my questions in a timely fashion. My apologies for not checking the errata - I forgot the game had one.

Thanks!

I'm attempting to gather some squad composition questions into a single thread.  From the rules:
Attack squads consist of 4-6 CAV and/or Vehicles. SA: Bulky counts a model as two models when determining squad size Faction doctrines are available only if all models in a force are from the same faction During KS2, a few questions related to squad composition were answered by CAVBOSS:
      Q: <Reference to some force composition charts>
A: ... A CAV/Vehicle squad must have 4-6 models which vary depending on what faction you are or if you choose to go non-faction (merc, pirate, corp security, etc). Bigger models that are bulky count as one model but fill two "slots" and that's were they are off a bit. Q: @CAVBoss off topic from the final push, but does that mean Bulky just limits the amount you can fit in a single squad? Meaning 2 Despots and 2 Malefactors make a legal squad taking all six slots for four models? Three Despots would be illegal since that's only three models to six slots
(note: I made a mistake in my question, as the Malefactor is also bulky)
A: Yes to both rules questions A few other posters have mentioned that CAVBOSS made comments at CAVCON that mixing CAV and Vehicles in an attack squad (outside of a Specialist squad?) would prevent a faction doctrine from being available.  From Question 2 above, there's a slight problem with this reasoning:  both the Malefactor and Despot have SA: Bulky.  If you can only have 6 "slots" in a vehicle-only attack squad, there would be no legal way to field a vehicle-only attack squad for the Rach.  They only have two attack vehicles and they're both bulky, so you can't get to five vehicle "slots" out of 6 with the attack task and have 4 models.

The Force Manager matches the three items from the rules above, but does not match the need for four physical models, only four "slots".  It enforces a six "slot" maximum by default.

So, for CAVBOSS (or anyone who can clarify), could you help clarify what is required for legal squads and what is required of squad composition to use faction doctrines?

      Thanks!

WWII was a major conflict and as such there are many model kits and miniatures out there.

However it has always struck me as odd that there are so few Japanese forces made.

Sure, there are some airplane kits, and some Chi-Ha tanks and a few infantry kits.
But is like they were a minor force if we compare it to the abundance of German, Russian and Allied troops.

I mean you can buy models from a lot of regular trucks, half tracks and such, but the Japanese only get a Tank or two?

Maybe I've been looking at the wrong places. And I must admit I haven't been following new releases for WWII kits.

But lately I got a little interest again.

So I'm curious, I prefer 28mm metal miniatures for this, what is out there depicting Japanese WWII forces?

      Preferably vehicles.

Anyone know of a few nice metal kits?

Antenociti's Workshop have announced on their Facebook page that they are planning to launch a kickstarter in early 2014 for 28mm scifi resin scenery, mdf structures, vehicles, and figures.

The sweet spot is expected to be £100 and represent about a 50% saving off retail to start.

I don't own any of Antenociti's stuff... Yet, but I am waiting on pieces that they contributed to Mantics Deadzone and Mars Attacks kickstarters. The photos I've seen of their previous offerings looks great and all reviews I've read and watched on their products have been very positive. I believe this is going to be one of those "can't afford to miss" kickstarters.

There have been requests for them to include fantasy and modern day lines, but so far Antenociti has stated scifi only.

      EDIT: link added.

OBJECTIVE: Obtain three units of medical supplies and return to your deployment area to win.

Medical supplies may be found in the Hospital (one unit per figure searching, but the place is crawling with zombies, and you can't fight and search in the same round), in Police Cars (fifty fifty chance of finding one unit of supplies, one search only) or in Ambulances (one search only, 1d6 units of supplies).

The hospital is in the middle of the terrain board. There are two police cars, randomly placed. The ambulance is on the far side of the board from your deployment area. However, there are only twenty zombies on the board in the streets at the moment... but that could change the moment someone opens fire.

      What do you do?
