Next up to play is the Manticor.  I found a pic that I think I will use as inspiration

My work so far  Just primer coats.  Used grey liner for the rock and brown liner for the Manticor

On a side note anyone tell me what this is?  It will likely be my next victim.

I think it is  Shub-Niggurath  Spawn,  Shub-Niggurath is the big one that was a stand alone add on

It's one of Shubsy's little ones, usually referred to as a "Dark Young."

Isn't it cute?

I appreciate the kind words but that's just brown liner.  I hadn't even started on the scorpion part., but now is a good a time as any for an update.

Update:  What I want to do is fade the bright red to an almost black.  So that the crevices looks red while the outer most shell is almost black.

Is it wrong that the first thing I noticed was the gallows and thought "Cool!"?

Seriously though, really liking the manticore, keep it up!

Doh...

I still think it was a good look, kinda like gorgon hide.  It will be interesting watching this progress, there is a great deal of physiological variety in the back end of that critter.

Update for the wings.  I tried to put veins on them but they just didn't look right so I just stuck to fading...

Early work on the base.  Not going to do anything special with it.  Might go for a sandstone color instead to kind of match the pic.

Gotta admit, that red had me confused for a bit, but this guy is looking amazing! The tans and dark reddish browns are lovely.

The following is going to be an EXPERIMENT! Please do try this at home, because I'm not a licensed professional and totally feel no obligation to warn you away from doing awesome things.

My goal is to complete these 5 figures, from start to finish, within 48 hours. Whether I will succeed or not remains to be seen. It's more of a "Hey, let's see if I can paint humanoid figures quickly," and I work best with a deadline, artificial or not.

      Here are my 5 victims:
      89009 Merisiel, Iconic Rogue (Tipsy)
      89024 Holy Vindicator (Trunk SlamChest)
      77480 Durok, Dwarf Ranger (Balin)
      77440 Masumi, Demon Hunter (Tsunami)
      77320 Galadanoth, Elf Sniper (Elrohir)

      Group shot:

That's totally not DDS2 in the background, I don't know what you're talking about. Pay no attention to that at all, totally not relevant.

So, I'll make this post my timestamp (12:00 PM PST), and away we go!

      Huzzah!

I needed a peacekeeper (think paramilitary wasteland cops) in a suit of powered armor holding a blast hammer for my warband in the post apocalyptic skirmish game "this is not a test".  The corsair was a good fit so I used the warhammer from one of the weapon sprues and Wild West Sophie's sheriffs star base as a shield, the head is an alternate from a peacekeeper mini.  Lots of fun to paint the corsairs are great minis.  Hope you like him ;)

      My first transparent mini:

I wanted to try painting one of the new invisible heroes from Bones III the other day.  This is super simple paint job where I first painted the base, then masked it with a solid coat of Brown Liner for opacity.  After that, I quickly painted the wizard with a single coat of a mixture of:
3 drops RMS Gloss Sealer 2 drops RMS Flow Improver 1 drop RMS Wash Medium 1 drop Liquitex Phthalo Blue
After waiting a day (I was worried the ink might leach out of the sealer or something if I tried to work with it too soon), I painted the exterior of the base with Rainy Gray, followed by a coat of Brown Liner magic wash.  To finish, I sealed the entire figure with a coat of Gloss Sealer, followed by a second coat of Gloss on the wizard and a coat of Brush-on Sealer on the base.

The result was a very blue, almost candy-like mini.  I'm happy with the result, but I'm thinking of pushing back the ink next time by at least half to get a lighter tint.  The wash went on pretty well, but I might also try increasing the viscosity just a bit by upping the ratio of Gloss Sealer.

Overall, a fun and easy paint job.

I passed on the Mythos set (not a fan of the whole Lovecraft thing), but it looks like the overstock will be available soon (along with the other sets), and I noticed the price seemed low:

      http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Previews

Is $50 right for it? Or will it be $80 like the others?

Earlier this week I got my hands on a set of bones 3 mythos cultists.

I'm not really that into cthulhu, but I do love a crazy looking cult. So I went with purple robes with bronze weapons, and painted the faces as masks. Not really sure if they were meant to be masks, but I think it worked.
