Randomness XII: Eighteen! Purple! Squirrels!

Stoopid cats.

They yell at you when hungry, they yell at you when wanting to be petted, they yell at you because they're awake and you're sleeping, but do they say ANYTHING when they have cancer? Nope, just stare at you, as if to say "Idiot human, why aren't you doing anything about this problem I haven't told you about?". No, they don't.

The Nuclear Krill Band Members page is filling out quite nicely. Everyone who's participated in the glorious madness so far has a pseudo-randomly assigned job; please feel free to request something more different if you'd like.

Morning all! Hot one here in AL, Blah is falling back yet?

I am heading back to GA for a family reunion on Sat. Mixed feelings... I don't mind going but I don't really want to. Would rather stay in and do "nothing" all weekend. Although that is my default. ::P:

Ever want to paint or do something productive, but after a long day all you actually do is sit around and do nothing for the evening?

This is me everyday.

But George, it's a metal band (or at least it started out that way). I've heard that you kinda sorta like metal.

@Krillsters - Let me know what part you want to play in the band or the support staff. I figure Krillerbryan will be the producer, and Ladykrill will be head of security.

I can barely play the Superman theme on the piano. Best make me a *BONK!*ussionist.

"So... what does a *BONK!*ussionist do?"

"I hit things."

Quoting this because I realise I forgot to tell the story behind it.

This is our Brutus.

Why is Brutus sitting here with that ecstatic expression on his snout?

This is an old shirt from my girlfriend, she had put it aside to throw it away.

Brutus kept sniffing it and my oldest stepvixen ( who can do basically everything she want with Brutus) decided to dress Brutus in it.

So here he is, zoning out because he is covered in my girl's shirt and scent.

Since he adores her he is completely happy here.

He sat like this for at least half an hour before he snapped out of it, and then still he didn't want it to be taken off..

There is too much adorable in that post. *dies*

It's mid-summer, and yet I am huddled in my office, wearing a sweatshirt to keep me warm, because it's **** freezing in here, and the vent aims straight at me. :zombie:

Got all three classes I was aiming for.

All the classes I wanted were available, which was actually a problem. - I was counting on competition from the rest of y'all to help me narrow the list down to a manageable load. :upside:

I suppose it all worked out in the end.

Krillthex, head of band security......:blues:

Well, now I'm just confused. I thought you considered NUCLEAR KRILL silly and dumb. ::P: Also, Ladystorm is already head of security.

I think it is silly,

But that doesn't mean that I am not silly too!

So I was telling my kids about this whole Nuclear Krill thing...  (Mainly because they'd ask "what's so funny" periodically.)  My 9 year old daughter was slightly confused about "nuclear" versus "radioactive" and our conclusion after the explanation is that Nuclear Krill should sing "Radioactive".

There has been a simultaneous resurgence of interest in Splatoon, since Splatoon 2 launches soon.  It is a paintball style shooter video game where the characters are all squid.  I haven't quite figured out how to frame a crossover, but there's one in there somewhere!  ::P:

I also seem to have unexpectedly also ended up buying ReaperCon tickets for me & my hubby...  Need to see if I can level-up the babysitting (from 19 year old big brother to grandma) but it looks like even if things go sideways I'll probably be going.  Yay!!

So, I'm a part of a Bi-Monthly Twitter Secret Santa'like Exchange called #BoxofManyThings! I'm doing Miniatures for both of the organizers of it and this is one of them. The individual in question goes by the Handle, owlbare on twitter and uses a Purple Owlbear as his Avatar. So I chose to do up a Cute little Owlbear for him in his signature Colors. These are actually his photos since I forgot to take any! Anywho, hope you enjoy:)

Rather than clutter up the topic in sci-fi general with the details of how I'm painting these guys, I decided to start a wip thread.

The plan is to paint all the marines in the primaris half of the new warhammer 40000 starter box.

So far I know the base colors I'm going with are purple armor, silver trim, blue weapons, green lenses. I haven't decided on squad markings or chapter symbol yet. This is of course not the colors of a canonical chapter, so I'm making it up as I go.

I painted two test models just to make sure purple, blue, silver looked ok.

I speed-painted these over two afternoons to be a party of NPC adventurers for an eclectic mash-up of Exalted and the World of Darkness.  They are 77322, Kassandra of the Blade (sculpted by Werner Klocke); 77405, Aeris, Female Elf Ranger (sculpted by Julie Guthrie); as-yet unnumbered Mythos figures based on 50032: Jake Ryan, Hero Explorer (sculpted by Bobby Jackson) and the Victorian Lord from the set 50326: Victorian Lord & Dame (sculpted by Bob Ridolfi); and 77409, Flara, Elf Heroine (sculpted by Werner Klocke).

      WIP thread here.

My GM needed a party of NPCs fast for a game of Exalted set in the World of Darkness (think fantasy characters popping up in a modern day world, more or less).

There was no time to order anything, but we had the handy new Bones III core and Mythos sets.

These are the Bones minis 77322, Kassandra of the Blade (sculpted by Werner Klocke); 77405, Aeris, Female Elf Ranger (sculpted by Julie Guthrie); as-yet unnumbered Mythos figures based on 50032: Jake Ryan, Hero Explorer (sculpted by Bobby Jackson) and the Victorian Lord from the set 50326: Victorian Lord & Dame (sculpted by Bob Ridolfi); and as a free bonus 77409, Flara, Elf Heroine (sculpted by Werner Klocke), who was simply a "Vale Swordsman Elf Grunt" in metal (she was the first character picked for the one represented by Kassandra of the Blade, and I painted her up anyway as an extra and useful figure).

I painted these really fast -- for me -- in two afternoons, one to prime and paint faces and one to paint the rest of them.  It's not quite my one-hour robot speed paint, but for me it was super fast and the results are more tabletop-quality than my usual run.

First I washed and primed all the Bones with Reaper's Brown Liner.  I did not clean flash up as much as normal owing to the tight deadline.

Skin work, using simple mixes of earth pigments plus white: Burnt Umber (for the darker skin tones), Burnt Sienna (for the pinker, lighter skin tones), Red Iron Oxide (for really pink skin) ,and Yellow Ochre plus Titanium White. Hair was laid in with the same palette plus Carbon Black.

Rough shading with ruddy Burnt Sienna-Titanium White shadows and greyer Burnt Umber-Titanium White shadows.

This character, a former Fae, has dramatic blue-streaked hair.  This is a classic mix of Phthalocyanine Blue and enough Titanium White to make it opaque.
