Having a bad day today. It's one of those days I'm seriously considering sobering up and going back on the meds just so the ideas will stop and I won't have to write anymore. I can be boring and mediocre again. The pain will go away. I won't mean anything anymore. I'll be a good little citizen without thoughts or ideas or passions. Just like everyone wanted.

Then I realize what I'm thinking and I get horrified and disgusted with myself.

Just... it's a bad day today. A really bad day. Maybe I can give myself an existential crisis around 2am to cheer me up.

Sympathy like, and hugs.

Holy smoke, Batman. Because the canadian smoke wasn't enough the wind shifted and we've gotten it from the US the last couple of days. Like a heavy fog except no moisture and it hurts the eyes and nose. I'm not real allergic to it and it's still bugging me. Feel sorry for anyone with respiratory problems. Feel even more sorry for the people near the fires. There's been a couple combine fires the last week but nothing big for awhile here.

You've obviously never been to Ferenginar, Mr. Draven...

That's about what I said about Minecraft when it first came out.

I believe my exact words were "Eh, it seems kinda fun, I guess. I can't see myself becoming addicted to this, it's just building stuff."

Aha. Ahahahaha. Yeah....

Huzzah!

--OneBoot :D

Minecraft has a built in safety mechanism for me. I don't care for fighting the mobs all that much, and redstone has a tendency to annoy me, while creative mode is too easy. So I'll play on peaceful difficulty, or at most easy, and then build up a base. Once I do that, I might start working on a railway system, but as soon as I start working on anything that involves extensive use of redstone I scrap the whole thing. I do end up making tunnels that would bring the Viet Cong to tears though, because I tend to build a single small house and then put everything else, including tree farms, underground.

Also, found out an uncle is currently on life support today, with no real prospects of coming off it. No big surprise. He's spent at least the last 5 years telling every doctor he's been to that they're a quack and that he knows more about medicine than they do. His diet of a gallon of soda a day and junk food has nothing to do with his diabetes, or his obesity, or why he needed a quintuple bypass, etc. I'd feel more upset if it was one of my other uncles, but this one... meh. There's more than one reason why most of the family has distanced themselves from him in the last 15 years.

Still feel bad for my grandma though.

I've had someone say to me "You gotta fix my breathing, it's getting horrible. It's like I can never catch my breath, even sitting down doing nothing."

When smoking cessation is mentioned I am told :

"Smoking isn't causing it, look I've cut down to a pack a day, I used to smoke, whew... who knows how many, so I'm telling you it's not that. What about those chem trails, from the airplanes overhead? I heard on the radio that the government is putting chemicals into the air, I think it's that. Have you thought of looking into that? Cause you gotta help me breathe better."

@unruley - sorry to hear about your Uncle. I've been there with you in regards to some of my own family, and no matter what, there is always still a sense of loss.

*offers hugs*

Soooo.... At the Bones IV party, Bryan and Ludo were being silly geese and got matching balloon antlers, claiming to be "Devout Morihaldans."

Red Ambrosia said, "Ahh, devotee of morihalda, a perfect reapercon ribbon!"

What would be a good phrase to put on a ribbon that doesn't smugly sound like, "oooh look at me, come get my Mori ribbon!"

'Cause I want silly, not pretentious. :zombie:

Something easy to fit on the ribbon? One word! Worshiped!

If you want to go a little bit more ego, there's always "Morihalla", a small side-step dimension from Valhalla.

Ain't that the truth. I've got a friend who was having issues because she was too big, and any time a doctor told her that she would immediately call them a quack and go somewhere else. At one point her husband told me they'd been to 4 or 5 different specialists, who all said the same thing, and she was wanting to go two states away to another one in hopes of getting a different opinion.

I don't even try to tell my doctor that she's wrong when she tells me I need to lose weight and eat better. I know I do. I'm just lazy. Hence the need to lose weight and eat better. I call my biannual visits to her office "my 6 month scolding" because it's always the same. Though it was different at the last one, because the new job was already making an impact at just a few weeks in. I think the next one will be even better, because I've actually started to shed a few pounds now along with having lost size.

No wonder I was feeling a bit better. The smoke that had been going to me is now going to you! My condolences. Same here on not being allergic but having a nasty reaction. Claratin (loratadine) and ibprophen helps. The claratin slows the histimine reaction, and the ibprophen helps lower inflammation due to inhaling all that junk.

I've been off smoking for nearly four years now, but I still can't give up the eating. ::(:

I've never smoked and still can't give up eating.  It's kind of required.  For a long while my weight was holding steady, but every time I get sick or injured more pounds go on.  <sigh>  I just keep focusing on not getting sick.  It's something.

So I realized I only had one painted dwarf (!) when one of my GMs asked me if I had anything for the Jadeborn, a race in Exalted that is roughly equivalent to dwarves except for the 0.001% who are roughly equivalent to elves. And they are also sort of stone golems. Based on jade.

I thought Reaper's 60184: Meyanda, Android Priestess, sculpted by Bobby Jackson, would do well for one of the elfy artisan Jadeborn and I pulled out a random assortment of seven (because of course) dwarves for the worker and warrior Jadeborn.

All paints used are Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics. Color mixes are (usually) noted, but not exact ratios.

Questions are welcomed and I will try to answer them. Critiques are appreciated.

This is the way I usually start miniature figures: Lightly primed with Titanium White, then when that is dry, washing it over with Burnt Umber. Burnt Umber is a dark, transparent pigment that settles into crannies when thinned down and shows the details very well. It also gives a nice warm undertone to later paint layers.

I left a few crystal and gem areas white so they will have more luminosity later.

      Left to right:
Reaper 60184, Meyanda Android Priestess; Ral Partha; Hasslefree HFD014 Hatherley; Oathsworn Miniatures; Oathsworn Miniatures; Red Box Games; Stonehaven Miniatures; Reaper 14143: Kara Foehunter, Dwarf Hero

      Details:

The Ral Partha dwarf is tiny!

So, I'm a part of a Bi-Monthly Twitter Secret Santa'like Exchange called #BoxofManyThings! I'm doing Miniatures for both of the organizers of it and this is one of them. The individual in question goes by the Handle, owlbare on twitter and uses a Purple Owlbear as his Avatar. So I chose to do up a Cute little Owlbear for him in his signature Colors. These are actually his photos since I forgot to take any! Anywho, hope you enjoy:)

Rather than clutter up the topic in sci-fi general with the details of how I'm painting these guys, I decided to start a wip thread.

The plan is to paint all the marines in the primaris half of the new warhammer 40000 starter box.

So far I know the base colors I'm going with are purple armor, silver trim, blue weapons, green lenses. I haven't decided on squad markings or chapter symbol yet. This is of course not the colors of a canonical chapter, so I'm making it up as I go.

I painted two test models just to make sure purple, blue, silver looked ok.

I speed-painted these over two afternoons to be a party of NPC adventurers for an eclectic mash-up of Exalted and the World of Darkness.  They are 77322, Kassandra of the Blade (sculpted by Werner Klocke); 77405, Aeris, Female Elf Ranger (sculpted by Julie Guthrie); as-yet unnumbered Mythos figures based on 50032: Jake Ryan, Hero Explorer (sculpted by Bobby Jackson) and the Victorian Lord from the set 50326: Victorian Lord & Dame (sculpted by Bob Ridolfi); and 77409, Flara, Elf Heroine (sculpted by Werner Klocke).

      WIP thread here.
