Froggy the Great

Randomness XII: Eighteen! Purple! Squirrels!

Recommended Posts

Tuesday.

I have a little problem.

Since we got back from our vacation I can't help feeling rushed.

Stressed.

And I do not know what causes it.

Most issues I had at work or personal life are resolved or being resolved.

I'm happy overall, but still feel so rushed that I sometimes can't enjoy all.

Not that I'm not enjoying anything, mind you.

I just wished I could relax more inside.

Maybe I should drink less coffee...exercise more again...

Right now I wished I could take another vacation...

No can do right now.

Maybe Octobre..

Anyway..I joined the D20 Rainbow Dragon Challenge.

What a fun idea!

I will be painting Ebonwrath.

When I bought him he was part of a group of minis and I didn't care that much for him.

He is maybe my least favorite Dragon.

Something about the position of his wings feels a little off.

So for this challenge I chose him, because what if I rolled an obnoxious colour?

I wouldn't want to ruin a favorite Dragon!

So I rolled Marine Teal, Mint Green and Violet Red.

Not too bad.

And Now I find myself looking at Ebonwrath and thinking..he is not bad at all!!

Why didn't I see that before?

Ideas are forming and I think I'm going to have fun painting him.

I hope you all have a great day!

Stay safe! Beware of Hurricanes/Floods/Traffic/Crime/Disease and other bad stuff!

I knew I wasn't being crazy about the high winds!

News article "Bay Area sees more than 800 lightning strikes in 5 hours."

It started with strong wind gusts between 35 and 50 mph that roared through Monterey County and parts of the South Bay in the early morning hours. Later in the day, temperatures climbed to the 90s in San Jose and the high 80s in San Francisco.

Then came the rain, thunder and lightning. The National Weather Service tweeted out that the Bay Area saw more than 800 lightning strikes and cloud flashes between noon and 5 p.m.

I think it's rained once or twice since mid June..  I could really use a good week of rain.  :zombie:

Did you not get rain at the end of last week? It rained on Friday and Saturday here. Just a little, but it was lovely! Washed some of the ash away

Soooo.... At the Bones IV party, Bryan and Ludo were being silly geese and got matching balloon antlers, claiming to be "Devout Morihaldans."

Red Ambrosia said, "Ahh, devotee of morihalda, a perfect reapercon ribbon!"

What would be a good phrase to put on a ribbon that doesn't smugly sound like, "oooh look at me, come get my Mori ribbon!"

'Cause I want silly, not pretentious. :zombie:

Yay! I'm helping!

If I get some antlers, can I have one even though I'm not going to reapercon?

My my toe is feeling better. The doctor gave me some anitbotics and some stuff to do to bring down the swelling. Oddly, she seemed as adverse to chopping it off as my hubby.

I've had someone say to me "You gotta fix my breathing, it's getting horrible. It's like I can never catch my breath, even sitting down doing nothing."

When smoking cessation is mentioned I am told :

"Smoking isn't causing it, look I've cut down to a pack a day, I used to smoke, whew... who knows how many, so I'm telling you it's not that. What about those chem trails, from the airplanes overhead? I heard on the radio that the government is putting chemicals into the air, I think it's that. Have you thought of looking into that? Cause you gotta help me breathe better."

You should tell him that it's not the chemicals in the air; the government is slowly poisoning him because he knows about the chemicals in the air.

Well, I can't keep track of whether coffee is good for you or not ( I seem to remember hearing recently that experts might have flip-flopped again and now it's good for you, but I'm not sure...)

...and I'm not a doctor, but every one I've ever spoken too seems to think that exercise is good for you, so doing a little more probably can't hurt.

I hope you find a solution that works for you quickly.

Thank you @Chaoswolf !!!

First action is taken, I reduced my coffee intake for today and substituted it for more tea.

Second action, I will hit the gym tomorrow.

Third action, I'm taking a week off end October. Maybe my girl and me will go somewhere or we will stick around the house, we'll see. But vacation anyway.

Now to kill the last Brainweasels and try to relax.

There are some things going on which I do not have much control over, but they are important.

I need to learn to let go of stuff I can't control myself..

Not always easy for a Megalomaniac ...

Just a few more hours and I can go home again.

I like my job, it's just that I like being home better!!!!

WOOF is preparing an airstrike.

Just a few targets locked in.

Feel free to ponder who will be the targets.

You'll know if you're one of them when you get hit.

I've been off smoking for nearly four years now, but I still can't give up the eating. ::(:

Problem is, no one can give up eating. Fun fact: going without food increases mortality. Weird right?

No is actually easier than maybe. Why I have much easier time maintaining no sugar diets than "I'll just cut back."

---

@Glitterwolf exercise likely will help. Also, do you think it might be related to your vacation time running out, and not doing as many things as you wanted on vacation?

Edit;

oh yeah, meditation and yoga.

You can't give up eating, but you can reduce it. What we tend to think of as hunger is actually closer to withdrawal symptoms as our bodies crave sugar and resist burning stored energy.

Well, during my vacation I got a message about work and my position.

So I had a few days spoiled with thinking about it.

Things look good, but I will know for sure in November..

That's one thing..

I got a few minor things going on ( see post above) I need to learn to let go more..

Basically I stress myself out about minor things I can't control anyway.

And a few bigger issues, those look to turn out good, but the uncertainty ( no confirmation yet) nags me...

I really need to find a way to let go...I know that.

Exercise might help me feel better and more relaxed.

And indeed, too much coffee might be wrong for me.

I normally drink tea and have one or two espresso a day.

Lately I have been drinking like 3 espresso, 2 mocchas and 2 coffee a day aside from some tea.

Might be too much..

Also and this might be THE thing, I just realize it now while we "chat", I have more trouble than I used too, to get back into the normal way of life.

I just want more free time, and less work related stuff.

My girl is also busy, home care ( is that the right word?) She visits elderly and disabled people and helps them shower, taking medicine etc etc.

She also needs to plan the shifts for her team, is very busy with that.

And I don't like seeing her work so hard in her own time for so little compensation.

So I worry a bit about that too.

All pretty basic and normal stuff, most of us go through, I guess.

I think it is a good thing we're taking a week off together in October.

Was supposed to start raining at 2am. So I didn't water the plants last night except a little bit to the ones obviously suffering.

Guess what. No rain yet, and the mass of water went else where.

Cone on Irma, pour a little sugar on me!

That last bit can add to all of it. My bride's stress affects me more than my own most of the time. I'm very defensive of her time and energy. Add work stress to that in ways that you can't control and brain weasels attack the train. Good luck in finding a zen place in the middle of the storm!!

Sympathies to all having ze stresses! I actually had a good Monday, so my stress is low. Sooooo many issues resolved yesterday at work.

So story time! Ever since my father took a DNA test, the family has been interested in taking one as well. This last sale, we purchased four kits, and we got back our son's results first. My wife (full Japanese) was very interested in what the results would show. Would his results show 50% Japanese, or would there be some Korean or Mongolian mixed it? She was very excited as I opened the email results to reveal...

... wait for it ...

... 49% East Asian and around 1% Central Asian!

Uh... yeah. Not exactly the ethnic precision she was hoping for. Asia is rather big, so 'central' could be nearly anything. She is now less excited for her results to arrive.

So I realized I only had one painted dwarf (!) when one of my GMs asked me if I had anything for the Jadeborn, a race in Exalted that is roughly equivalent to dwarves except for the 0.001% who are roughly equivalent to elves. And they are also sort of stone golems. Based on jade.

I thought Reaper's 60184: Meyanda, Android Priestess, sculpted by Bobby Jackson, would do well for one of the elfy artisan Jadeborn and I pulled out a random assortment of seven (because of course) dwarves for the worker and warrior Jadeborn.

All paints used are Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics. Color mixes are (usually) noted, but not exact ratios.

Questions are welcomed and I will try to answer them. Critiques are appreciated.

This is the way I usually start miniature figures: Lightly primed with Titanium White, then when that is dry, washing it over with Burnt Umber. Burnt Umber is a dark, transparent pigment that settles into crannies when thinned down and shows the details very well. It also gives a nice warm undertone to later paint layers.

I left a few crystal and gem areas white so they will have more luminosity later.

      Left to right:
Reaper 60184, Meyanda Android Priestess; Ral Partha; Hasslefree HFD014 Hatherley; Oathsworn Miniatures; Oathsworn Miniatures; Red Box Games; Stonehaven Miniatures; Reaper 14143: Kara Foehunter, Dwarf Hero

      Details:

The Ral Partha dwarf is tiny!

So, I'm a part of a Bi-Monthly Twitter Secret Santa'like Exchange called #BoxofManyThings! I'm doing Miniatures for both of the organizers of it and this is one of them. The individual in question goes by the Handle, owlbare on twitter and uses a Purple Owlbear as his Avatar. So I chose to do up a Cute little Owlbear for him in his signature Colors. These are actually his photos since I forgot to take any! Anywho, hope you enjoy:)

Rather than clutter up the topic in sci-fi general with the details of how I'm painting these guys, I decided to start a wip thread.

The plan is to paint all the marines in the primaris half of the new warhammer 40000 starter box.

So far I know the base colors I'm going with are purple armor, silver trim, blue weapons, green lenses. I haven't decided on squad markings or chapter symbol yet. This is of course not the colors of a canonical chapter, so I'm making it up as I go.

I painted two test models just to make sure purple, blue, silver looked ok.

I speed-painted these over two afternoons to be a party of NPC adventurers for an eclectic mash-up of Exalted and the World of Darkness.  They are 77322, Kassandra of the Blade (sculpted by Werner Klocke); 77405, Aeris, Female Elf Ranger (sculpted by Julie Guthrie); as-yet unnumbered Mythos figures based on 50032: Jake Ryan, Hero Explorer (sculpted by Bobby Jackson) and the Victorian Lord from the set 50326: Victorian Lord & Dame (sculpted by Bob Ridolfi); and 77409, Flara, Elf Heroine (sculpted by Werner Klocke).

      WIP thread here.
