Oh, uh.  I ... don’t always look closely at sig blocks.  Sorry.

So glad to meet another Pratchett fan!

Although it was anticipated, the day that Sir Terry's passing was announced was a happy/sad one for me.

I had the good fortune to be introduced to Terry Pratchett just after The Light Fantastic went to paperback in the US.  I was first introduced to The Color of Magic by a fellow SCA member [who later became a fraternal brother in my/our Odd Fellows Lodge].  I am ever so grateful to my Brother, Chris Meyer for having introduced me to the wonderful state of mind known as The Discworld.

We were never formally introduced, but my then-four-year-old once careened into his arms whilst charging heedlessly down a hall at a science fiction convention. I recall he was quite kind about it, possibly owing to my advanced state of pregnancy.

... I just saw something crazy.

there is a hotel in turkey called "azura deluxe" it has giant statues of the daedric prince Azura from elder scrolls all over the facade.

why would anyone want to stay in a dark elf hotel?

So there has been no word from my current employer if they will be able to offer me a position beyond my current 1 year term. (Now they may not be in a position where they can talk about it due to rules about seemingly giving people an advantage or breaking a verbal contract.) However, it's less than one month before my job ends, and a job in hand is better than 2 in the bush... or something like that.

I finished up my CV and applied to 10-12 positions last night. (Really, I would rather be painting something for ReaperCon.)

But I'm happy to report I've been contacted about 2 of them, (One of them is the one of my top picks.) Also had two recruiters call me today to discuss 'job opportunities'.

No where near as bad as I thought it was going to be. I thought my phone would be ringing off the hook.

(The purple text isn't exactly sarcasm.. since I was legitimately surprised at how few calls I got. Last time I accidentally put my cellphone number on a job search site, I got 6 calls the very next day. The purple text is for my 1st world problem, humble brag. I remember all too clearly the time when I would apply to 100 jobs, with personalized cover letters done after doing some creeping in order to tailor the letter, and I'd be lucky if I got one phone interview. So the purple text is making fun of myself, and reminding myself that it could be worse, FAR worse. )

I managed to shake off enough headache to cook; something not unlike teriyaki stirfry resulted. I say 'not unlike' because I can't be bothered to haul the wok out when the cast iron pan does the job just fine (and the wok lid fits perfectly). It was good; I'll have to remember that brand of teriyaki sauce.

Potato soup tomorrow, I think; by then the celery I added tonight should have had a chance to cook in.. I might have to add more liquid. No problem.

because I know what I did using azura's star in those games, and I don't want to see what they have planned?

I'm glad you've already heard back from a couple of them! What you described in the quote box is EXACTLY what my poor husband has been dealing with the past year and a half. At least he's had a job while he's also been looking, which is a great relief.

Oh, I just remembered I never answered your question about that; just recently he had his contract renewed for another year and a half (which is half a year more than we were expecting), with the plan that it will be renewed for another year after that, followed by hopefully a permanent position. :bday:

Huzzah!

And now is the time of night where I... decide to clean the fish tank. It’s bothering me. A clear goo has taken root and needs to be sucked out.

Well I can't say it's what I would choose for a late night snack, but to each their own I suppose.  Enjoy!

Yeah. It wasn't bad. Quick and easy. Slight mint taste, with hints of espresso. Coffee isn't my favorite, so I'll be searching around the floorboards for some crickets or something.

I was right to be suspicious of that 99 cent Amazon digital charge. I have been hit by 3 fraudulent charges. Beauty supplies and hardware...I don't see how they are related unless they are trying to make another Benny Benassi - Satisfaction music video. Sigh...

Tent.

And I'm happy to report that the Bingo cards are ready for the printer. My eyes might uncross soon, and paint might get applied to a figure tomorrow.

May the Good Job Fairy smack you up side the head with her wand.  But in a nice way.

So I realized I only had one painted dwarf (!) when one of my GMs asked me if I had anything for the Jadeborn, a race in Exalted that is roughly equivalent to dwarves except for the 0.001% who are roughly equivalent to elves. And they are also sort of stone golems. Based on jade.

I thought Reaper's 60184: Meyanda, Android Priestess, sculpted by Bobby Jackson, would do well for one of the elfy artisan Jadeborn and I pulled out a random assortment of seven (because of course) dwarves for the worker and warrior Jadeborn.

All paints used are Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics. Color mixes are (usually) noted, but not exact ratios.

Questions are welcomed and I will try to answer them. Critiques are appreciated.

This is the way I usually start miniature figures: Lightly primed with Titanium White, then when that is dry, washing it over with Burnt Umber. Burnt Umber is a dark, transparent pigment that settles into crannies when thinned down and shows the details very well. It also gives a nice warm undertone to later paint layers.

I left a few crystal and gem areas white so they will have more luminosity later.

      Left to right:
Reaper 60184, Meyanda Android Priestess; Ral Partha; Hasslefree HFD014 Hatherley; Oathsworn Miniatures; Oathsworn Miniatures; Red Box Games; Stonehaven Miniatures; Reaper 14143: Kara Foehunter, Dwarf Hero

      Details:

The Ral Partha dwarf is tiny!

So, I'm a part of a Bi-Monthly Twitter Secret Santa'like Exchange called #BoxofManyThings! I'm doing Miniatures for both of the organizers of it and this is one of them. The individual in question goes by the Handle, owlbare on twitter and uses a Purple Owlbear as his Avatar. So I chose to do up a Cute little Owlbear for him in his signature Colors. These are actually his photos since I forgot to take any! Anywho, hope you enjoy:)

Rather than clutter up the topic in sci-fi general with the details of how I'm painting these guys, I decided to start a wip thread.

The plan is to paint all the marines in the primaris half of the new warhammer 40000 starter box.

So far I know the base colors I'm going with are purple armor, silver trim, blue weapons, green lenses. I haven't decided on squad markings or chapter symbol yet. This is of course not the colors of a canonical chapter, so I'm making it up as I go.

I painted two test models just to make sure purple, blue, silver looked ok.

I speed-painted these over two afternoons to be a party of NPC adventurers for an eclectic mash-up of Exalted and the World of Darkness.  They are 77322, Kassandra of the Blade (sculpted by Werner Klocke); 77405, Aeris, Female Elf Ranger (sculpted by Julie Guthrie); as-yet unnumbered Mythos figures based on 50032: Jake Ryan, Hero Explorer (sculpted by Bobby Jackson) and the Victorian Lord from the set 50326: Victorian Lord & Dame (sculpted by Bob Ridolfi); and 77409, Flara, Elf Heroine (sculpted by Werner Klocke).

      WIP thread here.
