Photobucket is now evil; need new image hosting with app

Recommended Posts

Megan told me that the site that she used to use for her modeling portfolio got taken over by a porn site....

I thought that she had taken down her photos because of policies at BaM, but apparently it was because of the change in audience for the site....

Sadly, those photos were erased, rather than transferred to another site... there were some very nice sepia tone pictures that I really should have downloaded, while I had the chance.

So, there are worse things than what PhotoBucket is doing, I guess....

The Auld Grump - a lot of her images were undraped or semi-draped, which limited what sites she could use.

Google stopped allowing me to share my photos here about s year ago. I have yet to find an alternative solution.

I may be able to use my iCloud storage.... I will have to say investigate this further.

Yeah, I switched to Imgur after Google acquired Picasa then killed it. Still grumpy about that. <_<

Did I miss something with Google? I don't store a lot of pictures, but the few I've been sharing are hosted on Google Photos for a while now, and it's still working.

What happened was I used to use Picasa, which was a photo storage and management program that you could use to store pictures both online and on your computer. Google acquired Picasa, which just meant that you could either continue using Picasa web albums to store your pictures, or you could use Google Photos; they were separate things. Then Google started cutting out more and more features from Picasa, before finally nixing it altogether and telling Picasa users that it was Google Photos or nothing. Which wouldn't have been such a big issue for me, except Google Photos has no way to insert pictures into forums. I've looked and researched and poked around, and it simply doesn't have that functionality. I can share pictures with people on my email contact list, or I can post a link to the photo album the pictures are in, but no way to generate a link to an individual picture itself that the forums can display as a picture rather than a link.

Huzzah!

Ah, that annoying issue I do understand. I have to create my own link to the Google picture instead of having it automatically generated. On Firefox, I right click for a "view image", then copy/paste the image link created on the new page.

I generate links to the pictures in my google albums all the time. I go to the fill size picture in the album right click, make the proper selection on that menu depending on what I want to do, and paste the image URL into whatever forum I'm posting in.

About a year ago getting a URL to the direct image stopped working for me to post here because it gave a long URL that didn't end in jpg. This forum wouldn't let me post it. if posting google photos here have been working for people lately? I will have to try again. Maybe I flubbed my use technological device roll. I am getting older, so I'm gonna start taking penalties to it soon.

Cool, I might have just had a bad install with the Imgur App. I removed and reinstalled and it appears to be working now. Will have to test later this week. Thanks all.

I usually just use my own domain at dreamhost.  They have me at "unlimited" space.  I usually just use my dropbox since my phone is linked to it and pics go there automagically.  Now I am full on space and need to decide if I want to upgrade to the $100 a year plan or move older pics from it to my server. #firstworldproblems

Just checked my old Photobucket account; it is still sharing on other websites and business as usual.

I must be unpopular enough to fall under the radar.  Not sure if yay?

This is what I do as well. Managing my own domain is more expensive that free, and not really anonymous, but I've been using it for more than 15 years now, and it would require some real work to drop it.

So far, I have avoided paying Dropbox any money, but that may change.

Well, I just got a notice today...guess that's another swath of photos gone from my blog.

Got the notice this morning. Luckily, I've got every photo on a hard drive here, so no worries there.

If you are stuck with images on photobucket and nowhere else (you can conveniently find them in an organised fashion) you can download entire albums from it in one go

although this only gives you the photos in the actual album, if you use sub albums you have to download them separately (again you can get all the photos in one go),

and if you've got videos or gifs you need to download these individually

download album is one of the options off to the right hand side towards the lower part of the page

I just got my notice that photobucket won't allow me to do 3rd party hosting anymore. To be honest it has been pretty frustrating lately to upload and share photos there. So many ads freezing my browser. All mine are saved elsewhere so no worries.
