Wait, what did buglips leave behind that we're now growing culture of!??!?

Did any of it rub off on me??

Seems to me that I've SUGGESTED a few questions... but not lately.

As to culture... this picture stunned me when I saw it:

20293114_10156252537245190_2177307353842133337_n.jpg.62c19f90af0649ffd74ddc15ded114f5.jpg... because it implies... that more than a VERY few people will get the joke.

I came of age around the time that "Dungeons and Dragons" was JUST getting some recognition from society at large... just in time for the Satanic Panic. And it amuses me to no end that a mass market comic, aimed at mass market children, chose to parody that particular painting from that particular book that a fair number of MODERN geeks wouldn't get, since the last time it appeared in public was on the 3.5 ed. Player's Handbook II, albeit from a slightly different angle...

... we've gone legit. We're iconic. Even if it looks like the Sponge Demon has a huge butt in its mouth.

As to the narrower culture of this particular forum... hey, I'm for it. Out with the trolls, up with the goblins. I'm good.

If you want suggestions:

AUGUST 1: What does the Dungeons and Dragons movie (the one currently in preproduction, not that horrible Jeremy Irons paycheck)... What does the Dungeons and Dragons movie ABSOLUTELY HAVE to have in it?
AUGUST 2: What should the Dungeons and Dragons movie TOTALLY NOT have in it, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES?

Of course there's a forum culture. We have our own language, or at the very least a wide breadth of unique terminology, we have our own math, our own mythology, our own sayings, etc. It's easy to take for granted when you're in the middle of it, but outsiders typically pick up on that sort of thing. That's why people generally lurk for a while before they make the decision to join in - they're studying the culture and deciding whether it's a good fit for them or not.

Y'all call it culture, I call it family.

That is absolutely amazing to see this happen, old school art always evokes such memories for us that the modern books just can't compete with.

Hey, I love that awful movie with Jeremy Irons. He had entirely too much fun. And the lead rogue was kinda a teenage crush. my nerd vibes just showed up OHNOES

There is a new D&D movie in the works? Not another awful sequel? Yes I have seen both sequels...

Uhh...

Just get a decent crew in there. I wouldn't want to set a content limit. But I love epic fantasy and have been subsisting on cheese lately. Cheese is satisfying but won't stay pleasing forever.

Reaper has friendly forums with RP/paint nerds and sends naughtiness to the Beekeepers. Which is odd, considering actual beekeepers are more on the friendly hippies side than combative.

Yeah, but you just described Beekeepers.  We get a bit ornery on occasion, but we're typically very polite.

What? You have a forum where people can discuss touchy subjects without it going all wierd and nasty? Hard to believe it's on the internet. Still gonna avoid it just because I've got enough stupidity happening in my personal life without worrying about politics, religion etc. I troll gaming and painting forums to forget about the nasty weirdness not to take part in it.

So I was at the World Model Expo in Chicago last weekend, meeting Corporea and a whole bunch of Reaperites and ogling some of the finest miniatures painting and dioramas the world has to offer (the PA system requested fluent translators at a number of points).

I took some pictures. Normally I've been putting up galleries on Photobucket, but they turned evil quite recently, so I'm attempting to put some up here to share.

Anyhow, much of the show was historical miniatures, a category pretty new to me, and almost everything was much larger scale than the 28mm I'm used to.

As for the vendors, I regret to say that while for the larger figures the men were young, old, noble, peasant, ugly, handsome, heroic, villainous, commonplace, extraordinary, leaders, followers, white, black, Asian, Elvish, Orcish, cowboys, Vikings, soldiers, and fops; there were far fewer women figures and they were overwhelmingly pin-ups.

Not that I have anything against pin-ups, per se.  I just prefer painting other things.

I did pick up one very nice 54mm armored woman to give a try, only to discover Kuro Cleanbrush had done the same with the same model months ago. Good taste, Kuro!

( @Liverpuncher also put up a thread for his World Expo photos here.)

Here's a couple of @Wren's pieces, including my own rough approximation of 3D photography: cross your eyes and it's 3-D!
