Day 16 KS Infobits Summary part 3 (last one for Day 16):

Note: The following quotes are all from Ron Hawkins (aka ReaperRon).

Quote

the handler and terrapin will be separate from each other.

Quote

Is there a reason that aside from Damaris and 4 goblins in the main set not a single unit is sporting a bow?

-

PJ - nope. No reason. Which is weird, cuz I love me some archer minis.

Quote

Is either the baggage/saddle removable from the terrapin or can we get riders?

-

Baph -*shakes crystal ball* Answer not clear. Ask again later. :)

Quote

From the Dreadmere Manuscript by Joseph Wolf: This is from a Terrapin rental shop. Horses, mules and even oxen don’t fare well in the perpetually wet environs of Dreadmere The giant land terrapin (once prized for its flesh) now provides portage for a price. The beasts' shells have been meticulously shaped to accommodate a buckled frame to which goods can be hung. The owner has been raising the beasts for years and only in recent years have the residents realized the utility of the terrapins. The beasts are bred, hatched, raised, and trained in large muddy paddocks. The only downside is the beasts hibernate 3-4 months out of the year. The beasts can be rented or purchased directly costing between one and a half to twice as much as a riding horse. The owner carries a full range of harnesses, saddles, and tack.

Quote

Is Dreadmere a campaign setting, or an adventure path, or both?

-

One Boot - if it can cleared it through proper channels, it would be neat to have a free Dreadmere campaign setting pdf free for all backers.

-----

Is Dreadmere part of Warlord?

-

OneBoot - I think Dreadmere would make a fine Warlord setting. :)

Quote

BTW, the Terror Fish, Bonesack, and the Razormouth were designed and sculpted by Chris Lewis. He did an outstanding job! Kudos!

Quote

Is Dreadmere more jungle swamp or more misty horror swamp?

-

Talae - temperate swamp/moor/wooded wetland.

Quote

Sorry to jump around. Bob Ridolfi (who sculpted the fantastic townsfolk in Dreadmere) just sent me pics of Julie Guthrie's latest piece. No hyperbole here: I think it's the coolest mini in the Kickstarter. And while it's not Ma'al Drakar big, it's stupid cool.

-----

I'll share the picture eventually. That will take the sting out of it.

Quote

Are there plans for a new $50-75 single add-on along the scale of Ma'al Drakar in size?

-

Edward - can't spill the beans right now. But let me say that we haven't shown some of our big guns yet.* *not a Victoria Miniatures hint. Really, it's not!

End of Day 16.

Day 17 KS Infobits Summary part 1:

Quote

we will (probably) not be adding more to Chronoscope and Dreadmere, but there is certainly much more to come in the kickstarter. We might surprise you ;)

Quote

We have added new concept art (bigger images) to https://www.reapermini.com/bones4

Quote

My primary goal for the next 14 of the remaining 16 days is to make the Core as great a value as we can, and to make the Expansions great values, so that our backer total going into that critical final 48 hours is as high as possible. This means periodic adds to both of those, interspersed with Add ons, which have a more directly observable effect on the funding total.

Quote

there are definitely plans for more expansions. While we have several more themes in mind that we are likely to unlock, we are curious which themes y'all might like.

Quote

as long as when you log in, the system sees that you had a pledge, whether you have spent it or not, you will see KS pricing, not Late Backer pricing. Note that if you do have a pledge and still see late backer pricing, that is because the PM login email and the email you used on kickstarter to pledge are not the same, so the system doesn't know to apply the pledge to your account

Quote

we helped another company out with terrain for a Conan Kickstarter that did not make muster. It is known that the rights reverted back to us and we have hinted that some of the options (Tree of despair, among other things) would make an appearance here. Speculation is how much will appear here.

Quote

metal figures are significantly more expensive to make, although the molds are thousands of times cheaper.

Quote

is there any chance that we might get a printed copy of the comic on the campaign page?

-

@Peter - I suspect such an artifact is unlikely

Quote

at the end of the kickstarter, we do a countdown party. We are likely to livestream much of it.

Quote

we will not be attending PAX West this year, after 8 wonderful years there.

Day 17 KS Infobits Summary part 2 (last one for Day 17):

Quote

Should questions for Livestream be limited to currently revealed items?

-

@Talon - not at all.

Quote

I like how the gain in backers per hour is increasing the past couple of days. Total number of backers is the key to big final numbers. Reaper will provide plenty of awesomeness over the rest of the campaign, especially the last 48 hours, to get the average pledge up to about $200, making # of backers key to big end totals.

-

@Kyle, that's why core set adds, while not sexy, are important. Also expansion adds.

Quote

I am in Euro zone. Do you ship for me from the US or UK now?

-

@Laurentas - right now still from Denton but soon from U.K. For normal orders

Note: The following quotes are all from Ron Hawkins (aka ReaperRon).

Quote

It's not known if the terrapin's gear will be removable or not at this time.

Quote

DUDE! I just got the final renders of something from Gene Van Horne. You people are going to LOSE. YOUR. MINDS.

-----

It's big, but it ain't Mal big. Functionally big. :)

I mean Ma'al is cool. But *poof* there goes all the tabletop space.

-----

Maybe...just maybe...we can show a pic of it on Saturday during our livestream.

-----

is it a new sculpt of something you make already? Or completely new critter?

-

Wax - Yes, and yes. Kind of. :) Chew on that!

-----

It's not a whale demon, nor any other kind of demon.

-----

It does fly though.

-----

It has wings. :)

-----

Doesn't swim.

-----

Hmm. You *could* use it as a deity.

-----

Hang in there. All will be revealed, and you will love it. It's been requested many times in the comments.

Quote

[Gene Van Horne] Have they guessed yet Ron?

-

[Ron] Hey Gene! Maybe they have. They've tried!

-

[Gene] Did you tell them what it smells like?

-

[Ron] Smells like lavender and vanilla.

Oh wait. That's my wife's soap.

-

[Gene] I would think it smells like an old trunk...

Quote

[Ron] Now that you're done with this project, Gene, what's next for you? Grand finale?

-

[Gene] Yeah, the Finale and the other group we talked about. Oh and the one thing for Ed.

Day 18 KS Infobits Summary (only part for Day 18):

Quote

are the two remaining secret minis unlocked when we hit a certain point, we just won't know until after we hit it?

-

@Stephen - we will reveal those over the course of the upcoming week, and tell how to unlock them as we do.

Quote

the shipping amount also varies by destination, so while $10 is probably a reasonable estimate for Core Only shipping, it's likely to miss the mark in reality virtually every time

-----

@Nethear - your shipping will stay the same when you lock in even if our costs change.

Quote

A painted image of the Zombie Dragon has been added to the Previews page https://www.reapermini.com/bones4

-----

Michael Proctor painted that.

-----

Comparable in size to Narthrax/Kyphrixis

Quote

now that your gonna live stream what's the chances of clever crow live streaming himself painting one of the stretch goals ?

-

@Limey - he's not on site, but Anne will be in hand to talk paint

Quote

Any cool plans for during the eclipse?

-

@Boot - I'm thinking a Small World Heroes Unlock. "If the sun ever comes back ...."

End of Day 18.

Is there any backstory on the inspiration behind all of this?  (E.g., are these designs done with any particular system/setting/campaign in mind?  Or is there any particular region or time period that's serving as inspiration for the styles?)

I felt like painting these guys, so I did. No store link yet, they are the bones version of these though.

      About this project
In this third Frills & Fauna installment, we delve into the darker side of the Stargrind universe. The Overlords Kickstarter looks at one of the species in the galaxy that subdue others.  Overlords
Behind every thrall is a master. A major antagonist in Stargrind is the Overlords. A wholly alien species best described as floating brains. Physically, the overlords are quite weak, as they have evolved to interact with the physical realm using their minds. Powerful with both telepathy and telekinesis, the overlords can control everything (and almost everyone) around them with a simple thought.
These models will involve two sets of components: bodies and tentacles. Different sets of tentacles may become available though stretch-goals to mix and match with the bodies. The number of "slots" on each body for attaching appendages is referred to as "soft points."
Being cast in resin means they are very easily manipulated into different poses by placing them into hot water.
        Classes of Overlords
      Drone
The most commonly spotted Overlord has been labelled the drone. Drones are slightly armoured in comparison to other classes of overlord, lending to their common presence on the battlefield where they are most vulnerable.
The drone has 6 soft points.
      Watcher
Named for its assumed purpose of being a scout, as it lurks the battlefields and rarely engages. Its single eye beholds locations and movements of creatures, communicating back to the overlords' hivemind. Unlike the drone, its eye is exposed for greater vision, but more susceptible to damage.
The watcher has 8 soft points.
      Reaper
If the overlords can't initially control a species, the reapers emerge to consume brain matter and learn the secrets of its biology. Equipped to tackle specimens still living, the reapers entangle their foes with tentacles before feasting on the head.
The Reaper has 8 soft points.
       Infiltrator
The infiltrators carry large egg-like spores on their bodies, which they disperse in secluded areas that are rich with organic material. This appears to be their only purpose, as their flaccid husks are abandoned with their deposits, perhaps to catalyze the growth process.
The watcher has no soft points.
      Matriarch
Meet the Matriarch! It's uncertain whether the matriarch is a mature version of the infiltrator, or a seperate class altogether, but she also bears overlord spores. Perhaps since infiltrators expire upon plantation, this class of overlord is indeed an alternative path, growing larger and more dominant rather than concluding in sacrifice.   The matriarch has 12 soft points. Sporeling
Once an invader (or better) transplants its cargo of spores (chlamydospore) onto biomass, the spores begin to absorb the biomatter and grow. Some take on traits of their "food." Once they complete germination, the spores detach from the husk and float around until they either form self awareness, link into the hivemind of a mature overlord or fall prey to something else. Adolescent
As sporelings grow, their embryonic roots retract, wither and harden. Often mistaken for horns or teeth, these scabby protrusions are reborn as tentacles or other feeler/manipulator devices. Scale shots

In an effort to reduce confusion by people seeking information and asking on topic questions, we are creating two threads for our Bones 4 Kickstarter.
This is the thread for conversations, enthusiasm, and commentary.
This thread will be lightly moderated to ensure forum rules are followed and specific questions may be relocated to the Official Information thread.

      About this project
      Overview
Help us launch our first line of plastic miniatures for the tabletop games we all play and love.   Run by a family of gamers, Role 4 Initiative brings decades of experience in gaming and design.
You've seen our dungeon tiles and polyhedral dice, now we wish to bring that same quality and value to the table with 28mm high-detail pre-painted plastic miniatures.
Starting off with some of the most common player and monster types (Humans, Orcs, Zombies, and Skeletons), we will be producing all of our minis in sets of 6 or more per category, so you can easily and cheaply outfit your game with the figures you need.
Our goal is to bring a very highly detailed set of miniatures, with excellent paint jobs for a reasonable price.  We all love gaming, but we're not all great artists.  So, we will always provide miniatures that are fully assembled, professionally painted, and ready to use.
Our minis are made from a PVC material that provide both durability and flexibility.  We also have gone to great lengths to bring as much realism as possible by providing proper anatomical proportions in a 60:1 scale.

      The Process
First, we thought about some of the most memorable encounters of our games, wishing we had some appropriate miniatures to represent the characters and monsters in the story.

Then we envisioned what these characters would look like and hired artists to create 3D models, 2D renderings, and background scenery that fit our stories.  But made sure they could easily fit your stories too.

Finally, we took these models and renderings to our factory to create the plastic injection molds from which we were able to produce the painted samples you see below.
