Reaper Bones 4: Information Thread

Recommended Posts

I started up a Reaper Bones thread on Dakka, but, since I'm supporting the Hand of Glory RPG miniatures KS and looking into the Basius one, I'm encouraging Bones supporters to help out on the thread.

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/734379.page

fwiw, I've pulled three Reaper comments I think are useful to know, besides the shipping info.

EDIT: "@Rosemary Ann - our previous two projects had an 18 and 20 month fulfillment time, respectively. We believe 18 months to be a realistic and informed estimate. As always, there are many variables that go into manufacturing on a scale of these projects. Should we fail to break $1,000,000, we would probably be able to fulfill much sooner should be raise over $3,000,000 (as we have done twice before) we could even have underestimated!"

EDIT: "@William Blackwood - we have some other offerings that we believe qualify as cute. This project has some more unusual models than previous ones, with some very fun devils, demons, dragons, and undead, and a few off the wall offerings. With the foundation of the bones line strong and stable, we have the flexibility to experiment with new ideas, and try new things, like the absolutely massive Narglauth, and more."

EDIT: "@Keith - we learned through these projects that after delivery, sometimes there are problems. It is so much easier for backers to reference a model by # than by "third model form the right, under the dragon's foot" so we pre-populate the images with numbers. it also makes it easier to a sk about specific models."

1 minute ago, Reaperbryan said:

We are likely to end up breaking the Core Set up into sub-units later in the project. Early on, it's confusing to people why they would pay $5 each for 6 groups, versus $100 for the whole thing, but if we wait until later when the $100 item is the CLEAR better value, it works ok.

Of course, we're doing some things differently this time, and may crate different divisions than we have done in the past, as well.

How does Reaper select which paints to offer in their Paint Sets?

fyi: Here's the MSP paint chart, where you can see the triads of the paints in Set A : https://www.reapermini.com/Paints/corecolors

Drives me nuts I don't know how to best use a color of paint, but pick 'em up, nonetheless!

EDIT: "@C- Anne makes the decision. She wanted to choose a balanced set, that would be useful to the largest audience, by having a good variety of useful colors."

Day 1 Infobits Summary!

These are important and/or interesting bits of information from the Reaper team, posted in the KS comments. There will be a lot of stuff these first few days.

Quote

@Frencois - Sophie and Friends usually show up later in the campaign.

Quote

@Zombie Painter - yes, we are estimating an 18 month delivery time. This is roughly on par with delivery for our previous projects

Quote

@Rattasak - yes, all rewards ship simultaneously and in as few boxes as we can fit them into

Quote

@Amanda - The Pledge Manager will be open until July 31, 2018

Quote

@Weresheep - whether you add shipping to your pledged amount on the project, or after is entirely up to you.

Quote

There will be both fantasy and sci-fi models in this campaign. We aim to provide something for everyone

Quote

@Keenan Parker - there should be some terrain added in later in the campaign as well.

Quote

@Melhilion - we will ship all European, African, and Russian parcels from our hub in Nottingham, UK

Quote

@David Rickey - in previous projects we estimated 12-14 months. This time we are estimating 18 months. For comparison, Bones 2 took 18 months, and Bones 3 took 20, so we feel this is a reasonable estimate.

Quote

Nielsen about 14 hours ago

You write any backer outside the UK has to pay their own VAT yet have the EU friendly sticker on? How is that to be understood?

@Nielsen - that's a blanket statement to cover us in case "Brexit" changes the import fees in ways we cannot anticipate

Quote

@Francesco di Nuzzo - while not all EU or Pacific orders will ship simultaneously, they will not be sorted into waves.

Quote

@Rattasak - the fantasy Bones will be in a slightly darker color than our early products, and any Chronoscope models added will be in the newer, "dark grey" material

Quote

@Mercurious - it is very likely that we will ship the containers to the EU and AU hubs before US backer shipments begin. However, it is also likely that US backer will receive their shipments before the other two zones, because of global transit times.  also note that the reward levels do not tell you that US Wave 1 will ship first. Only that it will ship before wave 2.

Will continue in another post.

Day 1 Infobits Summary, continued:

Quote

@Storm 72 - if you add items, it may cause your shipping to increase. If you change your destination country, it will cause a shipping change, and in some cases (Texas, UK) may add VAT charges as well

Quote

@Fab - because our EU and AU facilities will ship parcels in the order in which they unload the container, and we have no adequate mechanism to enforce strict wave order.

Quote

@Amanda - you can add add and pay for additional rewards in the pm until July 31, 2018. You may have multiple individual orders, and we will combine them into as few boxes as possible before shipping.

Quote

@Fab - we are not experts in EU and Brexit law. We cannot adequately predict what the final terms of the UK leaving the EU will be, and will have to adapt and respond accordingly.

Quote

@Benjamin Grady - Facebook would not allow us to create an event with a duration greater than 15 days, so we set it as long as we could. The Kickstarter End date on this site is accurate.

Quote

Zombie Painter about 13 hours ago

@reaper Is Victoria Miniature in the future for bones 4?

.

@Zombie Painter - we shall see. Lots of things to unlock and explore.

Quote

@Kirke - the majority of models will be new sculpts, with some being new sculpts of concepts we have done before (like a new owl bear, for example).

Quote

@Phillaco - about 80% of future goals are decided. We have pool of more ideas and sculpts than we can use, so we use backer feedback, suggestions, and ideas, to choose from among those.

Quote

Ant about 13 hours ago

Are the hill giants in scale with the previous hill giants?

-

@Ant - yes.

Quote

@Erk - there may be variations in the phenotypes of many fantasy races, to suit the tastes of various groups.

Day 1 Infobits Summary, still continued:

Quote

Frances about 13 hours ago

Actual chibi miniatures are coming for the adventurers in the comic, right? Right??? *sob*

-

@Frances - maaaaaaaaaybe

Quote

@Chris Renz - no rewards are mandatory. Think of it like when you're at the grocery store - you can get any item you want without being required to buy any other.

Quote

@Montyhaul - we had 32mm bases offered in our BaseBoss kickstarter, which fulfilled last month. They will be available in our online store before the end of September.

Quote

@reaper how much will shipping increase based on order size Na

-

@lichen - it's a factor of weight. if you add very small things, very little. If you order large things, more. It is possible for shipping to double or more, if you add a lot. We have worked with several postal and delivery services to match their rates, and weight seems to be the number one factor.

Quote

Earlier today, in the PM, the graphic had names instead of numbers - Jahenna, for example, instead of '3'. Will that come back?

-

@Pinkymadigan- unlikely. Numbers are how they are referenced in our database, so it helps us to have that.

Quote

@Griffonknight - we no longer offer the option to pick up rewards at our factory.

Quote

@Holoturie - we do not have a licensing deal with Frostgrave, and so cannot pursue models branded for them, or based on their art. We do have a deal with Paizo that permits us to release Pathfinder branded models based on Paizo's excellent art.
However, we do produce many models which would be suitable for that game, and many many others.

Quote

@Jason Gamble - #9 is not currently available in metal.

Quote

Pledging this for the first time, but what is included if I pledge $1?

-

@Zachary - nothing is included. You change your pledge level to the dollar amount necessary to cover the reward(s) you want, and select those models in our pledge manager (ks.reapermini.com/bones4)

Quote

We have added the Tabletop Subcategory.

Quote

Prediction: The 5th and 6th days tend to be the slowest days of any Kickstarter. Weekends also tend to be slow days. Those two things for this KS coincide this weekend. It will be relatively slow days of this already successful KS, and as a result, there will be a few people here in the comments figuratively screaming at Reaper that they did X to completely ruin the momentum of the KS - despite the fact that said slowdown tends to be the rule.

-

@Royal Blacksmith - our analysis matches that very nicely. We are prepared for such an eventuality

Quote

@Brandon - We often provide a way to get parts of the Core Sets later in the project, although we may be structuring those sub-parts differently this time.

Day 1 Infobits Summary, further continued:

Quote

@Aegith - the goblins will have integral bases

Quote

@Anonymous etc. etc. - DFTBA = Don't Forget To Be Awesome.

Quote

Why does the Fire Giant Houndsman look like he has pillows for feet?

-

@Cliff - it's mostly an illusion of angle and positioning.

Quote

@Back5 - Later in the campaign we will break the Core Set into smaller sub-sets, and backers can choose to get the full Core, or one or more smaller subsets. It is always a better value, price per model, to get the full core, however

Quote

@Crimson King - under "Sales Tax, VAT & Shipping" our shipping charges are explained. No zones have free shipping, and all backers will be shipped form one of 3 hubs, intended to ease the burdens of duties and import tariffs

Quote

We might have some unique undead planned.

Quote

@Robert - you know we can neither confirm nor deny any pizza dungeons, gazebos, or the like.

Quote

It's hard to tell from the picture. Is there a large chain that connects the fire giant to the hound as a leash? Would it always be one piece?

-

@John Williams - it may not be one piece. The mold makers will make cost as determined by the needs of the models and the material.

Quote

one observation: the armoured goblins are 6 not five as the latest update mentioned, i am right?

-

@Jose Luis - 6, as pictured. When in doubt, the image is *always* correct

Quote

@Paul Berry - We don't expect that every backer will love every goal. It would be silly if we did, it's never happened before!

Quote

@Robert - integrated bases are the norm, and we may offer additional bases, which some backers prefer for uniformity of appearance and stability reasons.

Quote

@William Blackwood - we have some other offerings that we believe qualify as cute. This project has some more unusual models than previous ones, with some very fun devils, demons, dragons, and undead, and a few off the wall offerings. Is anyone having issues with the pledge manager ? I'm not talking about it not adding stretch goals - I'm not talking about it not turning up at all. Pure white screen, no option to log out, let alone log back in again (Firefox, Windows 10)

. . . and ignore that - it started working again. Possibly a little tired

Day 1 Infobits Summary, even more continued (sorry there's so much, the first couple of days there tends to be a LOT of questions and answers):

Quote

@Reaper - is there any chance of some cute chibi style kid adventurers (Wizards, Witches etc) to go with the fantastic Bonesylvanian line of minis?

-

@Steve Hall - *shakes magic 8 ball*. Outlook Positive. Perhaps something based off the quartet featured not eh map, or in the introductory comic book? Maybe a few of their friends? I don't know for sure, the future is hazy.

Quote

Are the fire giant and hound actually connected or two distinct models?

-

@Ant - distinct models, designed to connect.

Quote

As much as I love dwarves, I think the halflings and gnomes are actually doing worse than dwarves in all the Bones available to date.

-

@Arjen Van Loon - you are correct. The standard fantasy races of halflings and bones are under-represented in Bones relative to the taller races, including dwarves.

Quote

There is a noticeable lack of dual (or even single) daggers.

-

@Grayfax - one of the things we take into considerations that sometimes the smaller things don't translate as well to Bones. Daggers are one of those things. Also, sadly, many of our existing female sculpts are a little ... waifish ... and would not hold up well. This presents us with challenges in representing these types of models in Bones.

Quote

Ugh Texas pays tax. That sucks. I don't remember that in bones 1-2 or shipping for USA.

-

@Jason, we had to start doing that in Bones 3. The law is the law, and sales taxes for texas residents are mandatory. We collect sales tax on our web store too.

Quote

One thing I have noticed with all the previous Kickstarters is the lack of models with spears. There's lots of swords and axes, but few spears and next to no spear/shield models. Any chance we will see some spear action in this Bones?

-

@Ronnke - spears tend to become floppy in Bones. However, we have some ideas, which we will discuss in future updates (probably in the next few slower weeks) that should be of interest.

Quote

@Reaper will we ever see textured bases (rocks, industrial, etc) in bonesium?

-

@Montyhaul - Will we ever? I cannot predict the future.

Quote

@reaper any chance of seeing any dwarfs or umber hulk like creatures in the upcoming goals?

-

@Christian - there's HUNDREDS of models we have left to reveal, if we reach funding similar to previous projects. Time will tell how far we get.

Again, continued in a later post....

Day 1 Infobit Summary, the continuation:

Quote

@Anonymous - well, the 4 Sci-fi dinosaurs on the Chronoscope goal I just showed were requested specifically by me, so that's exciting. But no, we expect a similar U curve to last time, with an extended slow period in between the initial 2 day and final 2 day pushes. This give us time to add value, and get the word out, as well as experiment with interesting and fun goal ideas.

Quote

@reaper, What is the base size of the wraiths? will they fit on a 20mm base?

-

@Maikel - they are roughly analogous to human size in scale, so a 20-25 mm base would be appropriate.

Quote

@Sir Geekjeff - the Chronoscope models will be in the same dark grey as the miniatures you mention. Other fantasy models will be in a slightly darker neutral than normal, bit nowhere near that dark. Still "white to off white"

Quote

@Dave Gross - we will definitely have a team meeting tomorrow and discuss all of the suggestions, including the many calls for additional respectful female representation.

Quote

@Rx2Web - Warforged, and Eberron are both licenses which Reaper does not have. I would not expect these models to be a part of this project.

Quote

@Moose Shepard - any suggestion that comes up from more than one backer and across more than one 15 minute period gets reviewed. about 80-90% of the goals are fixed, but there is some flexibility in what we can offer, especially in the late stages of the project, as the artist might have time to create some of those ideas between now and then

-

@Stephen Buckley - Yes, we listen to suggestions. about 80% of the project is set in stone. Another 15% or so is grabbed form a list of possible ideas - more ideas than can amen it in, so if the crowd advocates for one of those many ideas more than for others, that one is chosen. Another handful are left relatively open, and we see if our sculptors are inspired by these ideas. In Bones 3 this led to the Froghemoth and Hobgoblins, which were both popular requests.

Quote

We pride ourselves on making enough variety that there is something for everyone. Rather like a good pizza, you may not like every topping on the menu, but you can choose for yourself what you get There is no need for this to become a fantasy vs sci-fi war.

Quote

While many of these models are brand new for this kickstarter, others are Bones versions of miniatures we have produced in metal. We have always had a mix, although this project does have more new sculpts than any other so far.

Quote

@VancianNotions - at this time, there is not the ability to pick and choose form the Core Set. We have opened that option up in late stages of the project, and it has never been a retrograde process - it has always resulted in an influx of pledges, not an outflux of funding. Should we decide to do this, it will happen MUCH later in the campaign. Remember we are less than 8 hours into a 33 day campaign. There is plenty of time for us to do lots of innovative things.

Quote

More undead, and more monsters! Id love some large/huge eyebeasts.

-

@graham - we'll see what we can do :)

Quote

Honestly - "Please make minis like X" is much more useful to us than "please do not make minis like Y". We will resoundly ignore the second statement if such models are already on the slate, but have room to make items like the first statement happen.

Quote

Anyone think we have a chance of seeing Game of Thrones themed miniatures?

-

@Alexander Bortz - we don't often comment on future goals, ("we can neither confirm nor deny" is our mantra) but for licensed properties, we do. We do not have that license. Further, George is a miniatures fan, and a friend of some of the owners of the company. He has a license with Darksword miniatures, whose owner, Jim Ludwig I consider a personal friend.
As such, we will be very very respectful of their IP and rights, and so there will not likely be anything resembling GoT models in this project.

Quote

reaper, will there be more stories added for Mr. Bones and his group as we go?

-

@Matthew - it's something new, if it goes over well, yes. We've not gotten any comments about the storyline comic

Day 1 Infobits Summary (last one for Day 1):

Quote

Great... we split the party again... Mr. DM Bones is going to punish them for that one of these times!

-

@Grey fax - eventually, yes!

Quote

@Matthew - much later in the project. We typically do not break up the Core Set until the final week or thereabouts.

Quote

@Bill Meekins - all rewards will ship together. We will not even MAKE the paint for this project unit a few weeks before shipping, since freshness can be an issue with paint.

-

@Kriostopher - yes, the paint is always timed to wrap up production around the estimated arrival dates of the final product form our partners in China

-

@Talae - we have to limit how many paints are offered because our production capacity maxes out at 21 gallons per day. Across thousands of backers, that's MONTHS of paint production just for 12 colors, it might take years just to produce if we expanded the offering to 54 color 0- and that with no paint being made for other sales and products.

Quote

@Graham - In bones 3 we experimented with adding on new Stretch Goals in the Pledge Manager, outside of the Kickstarter project. It is possible we may do something similar here, but I cannot promise it at this time.

Quote

Well, his real name is Garrick VonScale, The Bold. People just call him sir Forscale.

Quote

We've updated many classic characters as part of our 25th Anniversary celebration. I don't see why we couldn't update Sir F. although for consistency sake, we would likely use the same model in any future images and (purely hypothetical) projects. You people nearly gave me a heart attack suggesting Bones 8.

Quote

Will the shipping be taken at the time of pledge and "locked in" or will shipping be charged later at fulfillment?

-

@Eric - when you lock in your pledge. It is based off of current shipping rates, and may be updated in the 10 month window the PM is open, so it may be cheapest to lock in as soon as we offer that option

Quote

@Reaper: How do you decide what paints to offer in a KS?

-

@C- Anne makes the decision. She wanted to choose a balanced set, that would be useful to the largest audience, by having a good variety of useful colors.

Quote

@Cortney - to make it easier for us to reach goals in the middle period, we have made those goals shorter by padding the earlier ones that happen during the early days.

-

@Cortney - You've got it. Saving the most anticipated goals for slower times, to help maintain a steadier pace. The long 30 days in the middle will go by faster if there's something new to see regularly

Quote

@Christian - EU backers will ship to our facility in the UK, and they will be processed as one wave. It is expected that they will ship TO the UK before US shipping begins, although they will probably arrive after US shipping has concluded.

Quote

Graveyard set: Reaper Bryan : "I have been informed that we have asked for a set of items to put atop the pillars, like gargoyles and torches and such."

will that be an add on during this Kickstarter?

-

@Daniel - they're on tap for this project, yes

Quote

ok Ron, the big teams so far, Team Flumph, Team Gazebo, Team Roc, Team Dino, Team Pirate Ship, Team Flail Snail. There's others, too

Note for future self: at this point, Ron joined the comments.

That wraps it up for Day 1, whew!

For those that have some odditites with the Pledge Manager, there is a known issue that if you are in it when an Update is released it can cause issues.  Just log out and back in and it should work fine again (worst case you might need to close out your browser as well).

Have there been any changes/tweaks/adjustments to the material the figures are made out of this time around?

Will any/some/all of the new figures be the gray material that some of the Bones 3 figures were made of?

Somewhere in the KS comments it was said that the Chronoscope figures will be in grey the fantasy figures in off white.

      About this project

Time of Legends: Joan of Arc is a narrative miniatures board game that plunges you into the heart of the Hundred Years’ War. In this dark, medieval universe, kings plot for the throne of France, and on the battlefield their heroic knights clash with foes both real and legendary.
For more than a century, from 1337 to 1453, the fields of France rang to the sound of constant warfare. The Hundred Years’ War is one of the longest wars ever fought and is the source of many of our collective ideas about heroic knights of old. It was also a time of myths and legends, and a fervent faith in the literal truth of the doctrine of Holy Mother Church. It is this world of strife and faith that this game recreates.
In Time of Legends: Joan of Arc, all the creatures that the medieval people thought were real, are real. Whether they are represented on tapestries, in stained glass windows, or in illuminated manuscripts, we take them at their word. It is this dark and epic universe that you will explore in the game’s many scenarios. Some are historical, with no taint of the whispered legends of strange creatures. Others are replete with the supernatural or (saints preserve us) demonic.
You are free to control the army of miniatures that represent your heroes, knights and peasants as you wish in order to achieve your goals. You will decide who moves and where; whether your forces explore, pray, converse with locals, or simply charge into battle. But before we get to the field of glory, you must first choose your side.

Joan Of Arc, Bertrand Du Guesclin, La Hire, Gilles de Rais & Jean de Dunois (miniatures are supplied assembled and unpainted)  The French have a very large army whose leaders follow the code of chivalry to the letter. These noble knights form the main striking force of the army, with their infantry taking a subservient role. The French employ few archers, but do hire efficient crossbowmen to fight alongside their men-at-arms. All these warriors fight on behalf of the King of France, who sees the war as a chance to reclaim lands lost to the English under earlier monarchs.
The Black Prince, Falstaff, John Talbot, John Chandos & John of Lancaster (note that minis come assembled and unpainted) The English king considers himself the legitimate heir to the throne of France, and there is some truth in this. In fact, he only failed to gain the crown because the French changed the rule of royal succession to stop him.
The English army, though considerably less numerous than the French, are formidable combatants, who often have the best strategists. Their longbowmen wreak havoc on the battlefield, and have repeatedly bested the cream of French chivalry in battle. This is a slight that the French knights are determined to avenge.
Archange Gabriel, the Unicorn & Angel (note that minis come assembled and unpainted) The army of God is made up of powerful, heavenly beings like the angels and archangels. They fight their righteous battles alongside the lesser creatures of God, and the weary mortals who struggle with sin, but are devoted to their creator.
The Holy Army can be played independently, or allied with the French, or the English.
The Witch, the Werewolf & the Ghost Warrior (note that minis come assembled and unpainted) The Devil’s army is made up of all sorts of foul creatures: werewolves, demons, skeletons, dragons, witches, and many more. Countless fallen mortals march alongside this monstrous host, having cast aside their God and sold their souls for mere wealth or power. It is rumoured that in this dark time, when the End of Days has never seemed so close, even the Devil himself may make an appearance...
The Unholy Army can be played independently, or allied with the French, or the English.

Another set of plastic minis for the Ogre game, or for fans of retro style tanks.

I don't see a pledge that includes the Ogre game, looks like just minis this time.

Even though I got these during last year's 12 Days of Reaper, I only just got around to painting them!

I tried an experiment with these; painting them first with special Chrome spray paint, and then using Citadel gemstone transparent paints on them: Spiritstone Red, Soulstone Blue, and Waystone Green, in an attempt to given them that lacquered mirror look that real ornaments have.  I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.
In the second photo, they are shown with Copplestone's "Lovely Assistant" to give a sense of scale with a normal sized human figure.
