Sneak peak at my "next" project. Custom base that I've been playing with (one of two). I made this from an old medicine jar, dollhouse crown molding (cast into a flexible piece), some strip styrene, balsafoam, smooth cast 300, alumalite quickset, and an old ring. I think that's it. Oh, and some Magic-Sculpt (two part clay) and let's not forget the tree bark. Still some clean up to do and more Magic-Sculpt/sculpting to bring the top (ground) piece together with the mountain.

Thanks to all!

Progress has been had on the base. I airbrushed the step sections after coating the tops and some select sides with Tamiya putty. I have spent a ton of time filling a "metric-butt-load" of pinholes in the plinth section. As well as straightening out "waves" in the molding.

Here's the steps:

I have a color pallet mostly worked out. I think the fig will be the last part painted, as I have another project I'm reserving my "fig painting attention" for.

 Thanks for looking,

Joe

Got a bunch of base paint work done. Some Airbrush, some washes, a bunch o dry-brushing! I have the monolith stones painted and pinned. A whole bunch of vegetation is planned. The stair stones still need more work (going to be a much more ivory color  than current). I have the plinth coated in gloss to protect it for now, probably gonna go "satin" in the end.

With all the green shades planned- moss, grasses, plants, from a deep green to spring shades, I'm thinking a desaturated periwinkle blue for the robes. Any opinions out there (the two of you that may be lurking)?

 Thanks for stoppin in.

A couple few more pics. Any ideas on what to with the stone in the center of the ground? I'm undecided myself. A glowing orb (osl opportunity)? A marble-like stone to differentiate it from the ground? Put a potted plant over it? Keep it "stone"? Gold? -I'm out.

Thanks Glitterwolf! Eye don't know, Eye kinda liked the idea last night. After some shut eye, eyem still not sure. BTW,  I'm a "semi-professional part-time airbrush artist" (insert Reese Bobby joke here). I am though, and I seem to have an affinity for painting eyes. I just don't know if it may "Creep out" the display a bit, or if that's even a bad thing. It would be cool, and "eye" don't have any other ideas. Anyhow, the base is mostly done now, details like the center stone and the plinth area are still TBD. I believe the mini will be painted in periwinkle blue.

Those marble steps are awesome!

I think an eye would be great!

Could be a Demon's eye, or a Human Eye, pick a style..

So, I chose my first Bones 4 mini to paint. To be precise, Mr. Mouse chose her, but that's neither here nor there.

I think I'm done with her face. I struggled with the eyes for a while before I noticed that the dark elves in Izzy's art have glowy eyes. Thus, she gained a simple bright eye color.

Ok I decided to blend a little more.

Good day everyone, In the wait of playing Scourge of the Howling Horde adventure, I recently painted these two nuisances. Inspired by Anne Foerster work displayed in Reaper's Online Store, I went with the classical orangish skin tone and dark leather color. I also added war paints on their face and limbs. 07003 Dungeon Dwellers Bloodbite Goblins sculpted by Bobby Jackson.

Hi everyone, here is 77061, Kord the Destroyer sculpted by Bobby Jackson. This was my entry in Reaper Facebook Quarterly Bones Painting Contest #9. I managed to win an honorable mention. I swapped both of his weapons for a bastard sword and a battle axe from Reaper 03560, Fantasy Weapons Pack, and mounted it on a 30mm round base.

With my Cadian army nearly finished and my wife's army at a playable state I decided to take a break from 40k painting. Since I've been painting for our actual armies for so long I decided to start a new WIP thread rather than use my old random projects thread (the "Too Many Projects" thread will be replaced by this one).

But before getting too far ahead I'd like to show everyone just how bad my box got while painting for 40k and killteam. This of course doesn't include any GW boxes I may or may not have on hand to paint "just for fun". I swear I'll paint those Skaven sooner or later.

Though some of the figures were closer to completion, I simply couldn't resist painting one I've had my eye on for months (I mean this quite literally as the figure sat on my lamp's base since I first got it and probably ended up in the background of many of my progress shots). When I first pulled this from a box of goodwill I knew exactly what I wanted to do. This figure just screamed Don Quixote, at least to me it did. So that's exactly how I painted it and though it may just be a simple paint job I'm already thinking about creating a new character just to use it.

Next randomly grabbed mini is the Dragonman Warrior from the first Bones kickstarter. This one suffers a bit from the softer Bones material used on the earlier Bones. The details are a bit soft, especially around the mouth and face in general. The scales are not all as marked as they might have been. The weapon needed straightening as is common with these minis. As can be seen in the pictures, the straightening was successful, but not quite perfect.

I thought this one might have a bit more armour than the average Lizardman. Turns out it is meant as a player character mini. So it became the Paladin Sir Hisst.

A quick and comparatively easy paint job. I struggled a bit with the face on account of the soft details.
