I've decided on the figures I'm using for this project now too, they changed since last time. I want to enter it into this year's Reapercon Diorama category (of course) and I want it to qualify for Bombshell Babes diorama, so I'm picking out 5 babes to battle the keeper (RBG) and his summoned demon (reaper glabrezu): 1) Celeste - Sorceress/wizard, 2) Khai the Huntress - ranger, going to weapon swap her to give her a bow, 3) Thorga Half Orc - Barbarian, Astrid Thunderhammer - Cleric, and Sister Vasha Fane - Paladin.

This piece will be 2 stories tall, it will have a lot of details and a lot of action, with a summoning circle that the Glabrezu is inside of at the time the heroines come rushing into the Keeper's Sanctum.

The badelf adventuring party!

Whoa! Very interesting choice of babes. It should be fun to see Khai, Thorga & Astrid all fighting on the same team. Those are some of my favorites from Bombshell. It would be cool if some of them had a few wounds from the wolf demon, and if wolfy had a few injuries from them. Like if they were in the middle of the battle. But that's just a random thought. I'm confident your ideas will be way cooler than anything I could paint up. Can't wait to see this one!

I'm going to sketch it out more this week and get it figured out how I want to position everything, but I will make it 2-stories tall. In my mind's eye, I see a sweeping staircase leading up to the first floor and the main action taking place in the basement arcane workshop of the Keeper.

Thanks, guys!

I'm looking forward to building it. Should be a fun adventure.

Tonight, I plan on getting everything primed with the airbrush after assembling and gap filling takes place. Then I'll let everything cure and start the sketching and building of the base itself.

Me being me, I can't leave things alone!

I must always customize at least one figure in a piece I'm doing... This project is no different.

I am doing the following:

  • Sister Vasha, the Paladin -
    • Swapping out weapon and shield
    • Changing her handedness - putting weapon in left hand utilizing a wicked looking curved blade and a really cool and decorated shield in her right hand.
  • Khai the huntress, the Ranger -
    • I'm not putting her tail on, rather I'm adding a sword in a scabbard where the tail would mount.
    • Removing the dagger from her left hand, putting an arrow there instead.
    • Removing the spear from her right hand and putting a bow there instead
    • Putting a quiver on her hip.

That's what is going on tonight (at the very least)!

Vasha is nearly done, a tiny bit of filling some gaps and re-inforcing the joints and then I'll be able to wash her off and then prime her up.

In case you are curious, this is the original sword and shield which I felt were a tad too plain -

Spoiler

You can see I used a very tiny pin for her hands/wrists and I utilized superglue and accelerant so that I could make sure of a strong tight bond that bonded quickly without holding it in place forever. The right hand originally held a wand from some sort of wizard or sorcerer I'd guess. The sword already had a left hand on it so I just pinned that in place in an action pose. The shield was probably from the melt bin at last ReaperCon, I picked up a lot of loose weapons/shield/bits to use in my pieces as I really like to customize if possible.

Khaki the Huntress from Bombshell Miniatures  is undergoing modifications! I have clipped her left handed dagger off, drilled a hole in her hand where the dagger haft was, found a bow in my bits box and cut that in half (snipping off a tad bit of its handle) and drilled holes in either end. Next, I'm going to cut the pin in her hand to size and attach both sides of the bow to it to make it look like that's her true weapon.

Her right hand has a pole arm in it, I'm going to remove that and try to put an arrow there instead. I may have to make the arrow though as I haven't found something in my bits box yet... or steal it from another figure in my collection.

ETA: Stock images of Khai the Huntress so you can all see the extensive modifications that I'm doing do her with regards to weapons, adding quivers, removing tail, and adding sword/sheath.

Khai the Huntress, now a true ranger! I realized after looking at a lot of my other rangers/archers that not very many had actual arrows in hand. Most are reaching back for an arrow as if they are getting ready to fire a shot. So I took a page out of that book and added the quiver to her waist at her back, repositioned her right arm and drilled out the pole arm she was holding.

What do you all think? Nice conversion?

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the modification.

The paladin looks a lot better in person than in these pics and I applied some green stuff to fill the tiny gap at her wrist and to fill the space from hand to shield.

I bought the Golden crackle paste medium instead of going out to buy the GW crackle paint... but so far no crackles in my test swatches. I'm hoping some people here have tried Golden before and have any tips. Do I need a base coat? Glue on the bottom? Thicker layers? Does it need the full 3 days to dry & cure even for small terrain pieces?

I'm hoping to be able to just use what I already have, but I might be able to buy some Agrellan earth this weekend if the Golden doesn't work. Or if there are any good crackle paints for a dry desert texture I could find at Joann's or Michael's or Blick.

      Thanks! :)

For my Broken Gods D&D game, I've painted up all the figures for my group and am now getting around to painting up their mounts and animal companions.

First off we have Bagheera, the Panther based off artwork in the spoiler. Bagheera is the animal companion of the party's monk/ranger and normally it is a standard medium-sized panther that he can use to fight along side him, but the panther can grow into this large mount when needed.

Next is the Golden Lion, the mount of the party's bard, based on the artwork below:

Next is the Nightmare for the party's warlock, based on the artwork below:

I painted up the standard medium sized panther to use when it is needed. The monk/ranger also gained a (perhaps) temporary follower in "Jim the Brown Bear" which I also decided to paint up for this adventure and future adventures as a companion or just standard bear.

All of these are painted up tabletop to tabletop+ standards. I didn't want to put too much work into them as they are just meant to be on the tabletop and not to be put into any contests.

Larger panther and the lion are the lioness and lion from Bones 3. The smaller panther and the brown bear are bones animal companions. The Nightmare is from one of Tre's kickstarters. It has a barbarian that goes on the saddles, which of course I omitted here and I'll either toss the barbarian in the BOGW or put him in the melt bin at ReaperCon now that he's not really needed and I covered the hole in the saddle where he would normally attach.

There's one missing mount, a silver and black fox that I may also paint up for the 4th member of the group. She paints minis too, so I'm thinking I'll give her a wolf figure that looks very foxlike to have her do it herself especially since I have so many other projects I need to finish up on this month.

Anyhow, C&C are welcomed and appreciated!

      EDIT!!

Adding more pics of the figures in more close-up shots for each one.

    • By ub3r_n3rd
Decided to have some fun today as I was digging thru my figures pulling out stuff I am going to put in the BOGW. I ran across the hydra and remembered that next weekend I planned on throwing my d&d players up against one.

3-4 hours later I have a painted up hydra on a scenic base from secret weapon miniatures. Added some water effects for a tiny swampy pond beneath it.

I’d love to hear your C&C!

Today, I'm not feeling working on my main ReaperCon project for the diorama so I figured to stay productive and still do something I'll go ahead and start a WIP thread for some tabletop to tabletop+ painted figures of mounts and/or animal companions for the characters in my D&D game.

First off I'm doing these three bones figures: animal companion brown bear (Jim), animal companion black panther (Alex), and Phantasmal blue panther mount (Bagheera). These are for the monk/ranger character in my D&D 'Broken Gods' game.

I will use some green stuff to even out and blend into the bones broccoli bases, the bigger panther will get a green stuff made saddle and harness.

After I'm done with these three:
I will paint up a golden lion (the companion to the panther figure from bones 3 I believe) Find a fox figure big enough to be a mount - will need to be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Acquire a nightmare figure for a mount or modify a horse or unicorn
    • By SparrowMarie
So as some of you may know I'm making a diorama! This will be slow going for a while as I get the materials and then it should be full steam ahead. I've started by procuring another copy of the "telephone box" since I don't really like the first one I did a few years ago. It's not awful but not up to my standard for a Christmas present.
