Is this still active for new joiners?  I was so busy last year I could barely keep track.  but I could use something like this to keep me doing something other than facing work issues.

Thanks

Roo

They let me and my husband in ^_^ ::P::ph34r:

Which reminds me, payday can't come soon enough so I can order hubby's dragon and paints!

Well better late than never I guess...  I will give this a try.  there is a Kryphrixis in my Bones collection that currently has no plans... (well actually there are 2 but one is becoming a copper or bronze dragon when my new scale 75 paints arrive with my birthday.) that dragon shall become my canvas for the rainbow dragon.

The palate gods were relatively kind to me:

the colors are already in my paint racks.  I should be able to give it a whirl.  Given these colors, I believe I shall attempt a 2 star challenge because I really want to try the restricted color set and i think i can get to the eyes and teeth shading with the greys and blues.  it shall be something different at least.

Challenge accepted and i am on my way!

Out of sheer curiosity, are other dragons allowed too that aren't on the list, like say, oh, I dunno... 77177 Wyrmgear?

....Yes I know I already have one random dragon thread, I swear it's totally "just curiosity" not "omg, I like that dragon and kind of want to do one up"

Sure. We suggested the initial three because of their size/price range. The goal was to get people to do the challenge on a Dragon Sized Dragon but not pressure anyone into high spending risks, which the week long speed paint goblin challenges do.

Glad to hear!  I'll edit my thread at some point, probably tomorrow due to the time..  Turns out it's going to be a triple treat double date kind of thing for myself and Rune.  Yes, I've rolled for three dragons, and hubby is looking at adding Diabolus at minimum, and potentially another dragon.... >.>;;;;;

I rolled 16, 8, 19 for Diabolus (Cloudy Grey, True blue, Pure Black), and Pure Black, Heather Blue, and Clotted Red for Wyrmgear.  Guess I know what my next Reaper order will entail!

I think it's a fantastic idea, I'm curious to see what Wyrmgear would look like without metallic paints.

I'm rather curious as well, and it would be neat to try and go with something slightly organic in look...  But not quite.  Maybe some sort of almost synthetic look! ^_^;;;;

Another question comes to mind, technically two...

- Is the Pathfinder Red Dragon allowed/usable for this challenge?

- Are we allowed to add in stuff like gloss medium?

You may use whatever dragon you'd like. The "rule" dragons are suggestions based on size/price range. They're roughly $20, as opposed to Ma'al, who is a $150 challenge (although Pezler keeps saying he'll do this with Ma'al).

You may use whatever mediums you'd like. The goal is for the rolled colors to visually be the dominant colors, in order of rolling. How you get there is up to you. Flow medium, gloss medium, matte... whatever. Go for it. I may hesitate on saying metallic medium, but again, this is for fun, so whatever.

Unless you are doing a star challenge in addition to the base, you can use whatever you want to shade it. My rolls are Mint Green, Heather Blue, and Volcanic Orange. I am not doing a star challenge, so I've shaded my mint green scales with heather blue, worn navy, and highlighted with whites mixed with the mint green. Star challenge would have taken away the worn navy option. My dragon still looks "mint green".

Absolutely!:winkthumbs:

Definitely glad to hear.

No, I'm not contemplating going for a roll for that dragon, whyever do you ask? ::P: ... Going to have to order more paints direct anyways, since Meeple wound up refunding one of them, and hubby likes the dragon too..

..... If I keep this up I'm going to be up to four dragons in no time - hopefully the first will at least have a basecamp before the others arrive! :p

This is pretty done besides the jewelry I plan to sculpt on it. As my scultping is Meh, I'm calling this the final product. I did something different with the eyes as I didnt really want to give her human or dragon eyes so I did neither.

I kind of like how they turned out considering she sat unpainted for weeks because I wasnt sure on what to do with the eyes!

So, I'm not gonna lie. At least half the reason I backed the Rising Sun kickstarter last year was simply to get my hands on this miniature. It was gorgeous, and I've been itching to paint up an Oriental lung dragon. Back in the heady days of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition, I got into RPGs, and the Monster Manual portrayed the Gold Dragons as the serpentine, Oriental dragon types, and I have always felt a strong level of appreciation for that aesthetic specifically for the gold dragon. I got the KS about two weeks ago, have already played it twice with friends, and having finished my massive T'Raukzul, I decided to go ahead and paint the monsters from the Rising Sun core game. I knocked it out in 2 days. Enjoy, and I'm happy to hear about where I could improve.

I did the dragon for Dragons Don't Share as a metallic test for my Ma'al Drakar I just posted pics of. Overall I am happy with him, and am glad I covered the body Aged Pewter with Adamantium Black.

This will be yet another Undead /Demon Army.
( what can I say? I love evil miniatures).

This army has an Asian theme.
      Undead Samurai
      Oni
      Asian Dragons
      Some living Asian Allies.
      Kirin

      Hope you will enjoy  it.

I will paint slowly and it may take a while, but I'm putting this out here to start.
Since I backed Zentih's Kensei Undead KS I have a few of the Undead Samurai and Demons waiting
I also have the Grenadier Wind Dragon ( alas without the two humans) and the Grenadier Imperial Dragon of the Eleven Celestial Dynasties
      And some Living Samurai.
Also a nice Asian Graveyard Set.

Some stuff that has to get painted soon..

      WIP thread here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79164-trakzul-as-red-dragon-and-treasure-hoard/

I picked up T'Raukzul to be my colossal Great Wyrm Red dragon, and spent a lot of time putting together the pieces for his base. I used the resin treasure hoard from Reaper (though they never seem to have it in stock, so I had to get it from a third party seller) and the pewter treasure piles in the parts referenced above. I also used a Bones 3 vampire warrior as a marble statue, some bits and pieces from the weapons sprues (including a sword in the stone), a random elephant necklace I had lying around, and aquarium terrain. The WIP thread shows a lot of the building blocks being put together. I also mounted a thread of LED lights into the aquarium terrain and did some minor work trying to make it glow when I turned the thing on. Despite my best efforts to seal up the gaps, some light leaks through, but it sort of works as magma veins. The photos of the lights on are harder to get, as they get drowned out by too much other lighting. Overall, it took me about 5 days of work, off and on. I tried to get some variety in the treasure hoard, painted up a vase to resemble a Ming vase, tried to have lots of bits and pieces scattered around. I'm pretty satisfied with the results, though. It's a pity I probably won't have too many encounters where I'd be able to use him, but I look forward to putting my players' characters in jeopardy at least once.
