Deep One High Priest - Bones vs. Metal

Recommended Posts

Here are the Bones and metallic version.  Not going to ask you which is which this time.   If I had to choose I would get the bones one.  The metallic one is a bit better but considering the bones is most likely going to be so much less expensive and it's almost as good IMO.

I have come to prefer the metal over bones these days. When you are about to spend hours on a project you want the best quality possible. A single dperession on the face for example can ruin all your enthusiasm.

But if you are just gonna speed paint some minis for a horde or preparing your random encounter baddies for tomorrow's game, then bones is certainly great bang for your buck.

Yeah just trying to build a collection right now so Bones are good bang for the buck.  Especially when it comes to large figures.  You can't beat it for what you get when they are over 2" tall.  Once I am done with those anything standard size I would probably just get in metal.  The detail is better and that is really important at the smaller sizes.  Although there is something to say about droopy plastic spears actually being better than fragile metal spears that break when your not looking. IMO:lol:

Also you can't beat Bones for durability.  My motor skills are terrible now after getting flesh eating disease and it's nice not having to worry at all about droping a model.   I ran one over with my wheel chair once and the paint didn't even crack.  Just had to run some hot water over it to get the plastic back into shape and it was good to go.

Has anyone picked up some of the new Wizkids Pathfinder Deep Cuts/D&D Marvelous figures?  I have to say that maybe Reaper should be concerned.  They seem to have better detail, they are primed (I know with Bones that doesn't necessarily matter), the plastic seems plenty durable, and the price is comparable if not cheaper.

All I have done is 2 Displacer Beasts so far (been wanting some for a while and couldn't find anything that was good and/or affordable) and they turned out really nice.  They even came with 2 black disks to use as stands.  Just a flat disk of black plastic but once I put some flock on it they were more than adequate.  Just wanted to know what everyone else thought.

Anyway also I have a bunch more on order (which means I ordered more Dwarves.....I really don't need more Dwarves..lol.) and will let you know what I think of those once I get them (note prices are Canadian).

Another bones 3 model set I am not sure of the name of.....(I'll update the title once some one lets me know) but I like how they turned out and they didn't take long to do.

Literally painted this in 10-15 minutes.  Would have been shorter but had to wait for the paint to dry in between lol.  I really like how it turned out.  Might do some more of these if I want to add flying robo monkeys to my campaign to terrorize the PCs with lol.

Have to say I am digging doing some NPC townsfolk for a change.  I have to dig some of these out and do them.  Oh and I know the color choice is a little odd but it's an NPC so I was doing some experimentation.
