It's almost that time of year again! And by that I mean it's almost November. I started this last year in place of doing NaNoWriMo. Instead of writing a novel I paint a mini a day. I have tweaked the rules slightly from last year since I wasn't able to complete it the way I wanted to because life. So here are the revised rules and my calendar. I'm going to try to do this one mini each day but if that fails as long as I have 30 minis at the end of the month I'll consider it a success.

Rules:

  • Must paint at least 30 minis (1 for each day)
  • 1 sculpt = 1 mini
  • Prep beforehand is encouraged.
  • No brush restrictions

Calendar:

I only do this for my sanity and to keep me on track and motivated. This year all but 2 of the minis are from Bones 3.

There probably won't be much updating to this until November actually starts or is very near to it. I think that's it for now. Thanks for looking!

Great idea.  I wanted to participate in it last year, but.....  ummmm..... looks over at house.  I'm hoping to use the Shaded Basecoat method from the class at RCon to speed up my painting to give this a whirl.

I admire your dedication and chutzpah in painting so many figures in so little time! Best wishes on this, @SparrowMarie

Maybe I'll try something like this over Thanksgiving or winter break.... I have no idea when I'd have a whole month to do this!

Is there any way to maybe get in for...not one every day?

As long as 30 are painted by the end of the month you're good. I probably wasn't real clear about that. It doesn't have to be one a day just one for each day.

Now if I did that every month for the next three of four years I could almost eliminate the backlogged stuff lurking in The Vault of Pack Rattiness.

I have enough time available just about every day to devote to it with some of the extra time spent on side projects relating to the minis. It is something to consider doing.

All that aside, GOOD LUCK with the project!

Ah, gotcha. Looking at your list, there are a few you could probably double up (or more) on in a day. Or at least, get started for future days. Good luck!

Yeah, I plan out my color schemes beforehand which helps a lot. So then I can just flip through my notebook and find where I've used the same color and then just paint multiple pieces at once.

I'm going to try the full challenge this year, got my minis selected and am working on prepping them.

Awesome!

I might try a variation of this and try to put a large dent in my Cthulhu Wars factions.

Black Goat - 20 minis, power marker, doom point tracker (Shub has already been started, but the rest haven't)

Crawling Chaos - 20 minis, power marker, doom point tracker

Great Cthulhu - 19 minis, power marker, doom point marker (15 minis have been painted already, but one 1 is done)

Opener of the Way - 21 minis, power marker, doom point tracker

Sleeper - 20 minis, power marker, doom point tracker

Tcho Tcho - 21 minis, power marker, doom point tracker

Windwalker - 20 minis, power marker, doom point tracker
Yellow Sign - 22 minis, power marker, doom point tracker

Those numbers might be off a little here and there, but 180 miniatures or so. I want them done by New Year's. Each faction has a pretty obvious color scheme, so it is a little simpler than the above challenge. That being said, there is a lot to this one. Also, I haven't prepped most of them yet. Lots to do.

As someone that did this last time, I commend you and anyone else that is in on it!

Nice idea! Volume of work is the key to making progress in bettering most creative disciplines anyway.  The more the merrier!

I'm going to try this also. I have a huge backlog of Zombicide figures, much of Bones 2, and almost all of Bones 3 to choose from. I will choose figures and plan when I get back from ReaperCon next week.

Sounds like my plans as well, plus Bones1.

Okay, I promise I'll finish one of these threads one day. But in the meantime I've started painting the Bones Sphinx. I've already painted up the wings, I've just got a few little things to do. I do want to thank @Pochi for the inspiration for the wings.

Well, I'm finally doing it. I'm going to start painting Ma'al. I think I've gotten enough figured out with Mini Ma'al that I can start. At the very least I'm going to start prepping him for painting...that might take a while. Blue liner and mold line removal are first! Not going to boil him because I can live with the slight bend in the wing(maybe, we'll see how I feel before I liner that wing.) Probably won't post more pictures until after I've linered him.

I'm going to be starting a blog series call Tools of the Trade. It's mostly going to go in depth into the tools used but will probably include a few tutorials. If you were reading something like this what kind of topics might you want to see? I'm taking all suggestions currently. This will mainly be aimed at novice painters but could be of good use to others as well, I think

So in the last...year? We have received the second wave of our Shadows of Brimstone Kickstarter pledge. We went all in and opted to get everything. I haven't started painting anything from it. I've primed most of it but just haven't had the drive to do it until now. This is the pile of sprues fresh out of the box.

      Then the cleaning process.

I'm not even sure all of them fit into those pictures, I know the second picture is definitely not all of them, that was just the first wave that got cleaned. There's something like...137? minis there if I counted right. This is in no way everything we have but just what we got in the final wave. Well now the company ran a second Kickstarter to expand the game even more (I already don't know where to put all this so let's buy more!). Which should be shipping sometime this year. That one also, again if I counted correctly, has about 181 total minis. So I'm swimming in minis that need painting so I thought I'd start a WIP to motivate me.

I've already got most of it written out and color schemed. The nice thing is a lot of the minis that are groups of 6+ or larger came with painting guides that are optional. I'm opting to use the ones that are available to me. I plan on using mostly the paints that came in the Shadows of Brimstone paint sets by Army Painter with a smattering of Reaper here and there. I'm going to try to get this all done before shipping of the second Kickstarter. Then it'll be time to build and paint those!

Husband has asked me to paint up Isabeau Laroche as Captain Marvel. He saw some pictures of it done on Tumblr a while ago and thought it was the neatest thing. So I am going to attempt to recreate it. When I was initially asked I didn't think I was nearly good enough to pull it off but I think where I am now I can do it. I'll be using this photo as reference:

The emblem on her chest will go onto Isabeau's shield as seen in original mini photos.
