GW partners with Wizkids to make games

Recommended Posts

Pretty much what it says on the tin. I'd be pretty shocked to see GW allow Wizkids to produce miniatures, unless they're way out of scale with GW's stuff, but it'll be interesting to see what kind of board games they come up with.

I'm also wondering if they're not looking for someone to take the place of the recently expired partnership with Fantasy Flight Games.

I read some conjecture from an insider earlier today. I don't think there will be any minis involved in this. This seems to be licensing for out-of-print boardgames, new dice games, etc.

Just what we need: wildly overpriced minis AND blind packs so you don't know what you're getting.

I dunno. I'll wait and see.

I don't suppose that "out of print boardgames" would include the likes of "HeroQuest" or "SpaceHulk", but it would be kind of cool if it did - it would be nice to see those back in print again.

Hero Quest was the first thing that sprang to mind when OOP board games were mentioned. But there are probably rights issues with Hasbro that would make it impossible.

Is space hulk out of print? I still see sealed boxes on shelves from time to time.

Fury of Dracula was just reprinted by FFG right before the license was dropped.  A lot of gamers will be happy to see that on the table again at reasonable prices.  I'd be curious to compare FFG's minis vs WizKids in that game.

On the non-miniatures side: Chainsaw Warrior might have some popularity since there's a video game now.

On the silly side: Battle for Armageddon (1992), because it's clearly not a WWII eastern front game reskinned as orks vs imperials.

Sadly this would also put Battlemasters out of the running too. I actually bought 8 copies of that game back in the day just for the masses of cheap "official" GW miniatures that could quickly get dropped on the table for cheap. The local Kay Bee toys would sometimes have clearances of old gaming stuff, and one day they sold Battlemasters sets for $9.99 each!

But given the choice between the two I would rather have Heroquest now. It was a fun game, and I can get a bunch of better quality cheap miniatures now by buying Bones models instead of Battlemasters sets!

Ok, this isn't a New year's resolution ( I don't make those), but I have decided that I need to get over the "I'm not good enough" thing and try to push myself to paint all those figures that I've been saving for 'some day'.
      That day is NOW.

I grabbed this figure during a Black Friday sale for something like 4 or 5 bucks. Depending on where you get it from, it's usually more like 30. It's 28mm scale, but it stands pretty tall; I'm guessing it's 54mm tall or thereabouts. I'll get a proper picture with Sir Forscale a little bit later on.

I'd like you to help push me to do my absolute best with this guy, please. If you think something looks good, cool, tell me that. By the same token, if you think something doesn't look good, tell me that, too. I want you guys to 'break out the red pen' as Cyradis would say.

For reference, this is the figure I'm talking about (picture from the WWW, not my figure).

I’m happy with the progress so far, but every time I take photos I can see missed spots or places that would benefit from more attention.

Apologies for double post. Admins, Plz erase one of your choice.

It took longer than I expected to get these guys done, but I'm happy with how they came out. They're part of the Warhammer Battle for Skull Pass set that I bought in 2007.

The base is a bit uneven as when I glued down the back of a blister pack for the stonework it split open and I covered it in with gravel. In the future I'm going to have to use something else as it really didn't register as "stone" to my eye, but the cannon covers most of it at least.

The powder barrel is a small Reaper bones barrel I've had for awhile, the cannon balls are 25mm airsoft ammo and the coffee pot is from an old Marx toy factory dollhouse set. Vastly overscale until one thinks about the thirst of the average dwarf! I had the idea of adding some thing for each dwarf, ammo for the hauler, gun powder for the engineer, and coffee for the swabber with the mug.

The aforementioned gap filling. Base of craft paint Pavement with Stormy Gray and Rainy Gray drybrushed over it.

The crew in Maxwell House colors. The swabber looks to be well on his way to caffinated bliss!

Most of these were painted in 2017, I believe, though I don't have track of it exactly. I organize my WIP pics in folders by date, but I gave up keeping 'count' so to speak as it interferes with actually painting and modeling! (If you want to see a particular unit you can probably just search this forum, I believe I've done individual Show Off threads for all these guys).

Anyway so here's my current pride and joy :D all my boyz in their glory etc. Hope you enjoy!
