Another factor is that the Sanitation and Immunization Procedures in First World Countries have suppressed what used to be endemic diseases for so long that most people don't even have second hand experience with these things.

Because they have no relateable experience the social vigilance that was part of the public consciousness a generation or more ago is fading, allowing opportunities for these maladies to re-emerge from their third world hiding places.

The number of people I’ve run across who think we have somehow beaten disease is scary.

My grandpa was one of the small team of cousins who invented the Emerson iron lung for polio victims.

My kids have all their immunizations, even the “optional” ones.

We have beaten one that I know about. And as far as I'm aware, it's the only one we've beaten. And that's smallpox, which hasn't seen a case in the entire world in almost 50 years. Polio is very close to being defeated, but is still occurring in small numbers. Aside from that, I don't think anything has even come close to being eliminated, unless it was a regional elimination(like measles in a few places prior to stupidity taking over).

Where is that from and where can I get one?

Decades ago, my grandmother was once part of a radio documentary recording where the elderly talked about their childhood. She was born in 1908, and she recalled how the Spanish flu hit their small French-Canadian village after the Great War. People quarantining themselves, dying at home, with the only thing outside being the horse wagon that carried the bodies. It left an impression on that then 10 year old girl.

The Moviprep I need to drink in order to clean the bowels taste reasonable.

It is the having to drink so much of it that is bad..

Oh well, all for the cause!

I have hobbied today and even finished one mini!

http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/80501-14187-ssathuss-nagendra-warrior-by-glitterwolf/

Also worked on my Pirate Queen Bust and the Crypt terrain.

I already have picked out my next project.

This lovely bust of Creepytables Miniatures, she is called La Charra.

The Snake will become a Western Diamond Ratller.

She will be painted with Dias de Muertos facepaint.

I think the skulls on the base will become sugarskulls.

Roses either red and pink or black.

For her hat I think black with silver ornaments.

I want to know what you people think, her hair.

Black/blueish?

Or go dark green or red?

Any ideas?

I live in the state where FDR contracted polio in 1921.

Seeing it make a comeback is... I have no words except tragic. ::(:

*EDIT* I wanted to use this in a classroom concert - but we decided it is just too danged depressing.

<sigh> I went and looked at some of the 54mm Reaper models online, most of the ones I liked are harder to find.  Wish I'd really noticed when they were discontinued.

Well, the good news is that if you go to RCon (or have a someone there go for you) you can go to the factory and get them cast; as long as the molds are available.  I did just that last year for Monique, Maria and the US Soldier.

I am also curious about where to get one of these.  It almost looks Games Workshop based on how the guns look.

AHA, I FOUND IT!!! @Unruly: it's from the Grey Knights, and it's the "Nemesis Dread Knight".  Surprisingly, for Games Workshop, it's only three sprues worth of bits for one mini...  (If you search their store by using the "Unit Type Or Keyword:Vehicle" flags, it's the first one, at least on the Canadian site anyways)

If you're able to attend Reapercon 2018, check out the boneyard bins at the factory. The models could be on the bins. If not, the workers could possibly cast the models. I know @Dilvish the Deliverer had a few casted. Myself, I took what was in the bins.

Note, I'm using previous years experience for the bins. I don't know if the policy will change this year.

--- edit ---

I'm an hour behind. I see dilvish response up top. Haha

I got a referral for a colonoscopy this week (I *asked* for it because of family history), so I know the same thing will happen to me in several months.

I remember my dad referring to stuff like Moviprep (Peg-Lyte for him) as "Kool-Aid flavoured Drano". :zombie:

Some tips:

Make sure it is cooled.

Drink through a straw and you will taste less.

I drink a glass of prep followed by a glas of plain applejuice ( no fibers!) each half hour.

I need to do that in two hour sessions with one hour without drinking  in between.

I have now started round two.

And yes Draino is an accurate description..

I love BBQ!

Rest assured when this is over I will go into a feeding frenzy that would make a Great White Shark jealous!
