Kings of War: Vanguard

Huh, I see that the two player starter set is now a three player starter set....

I can see buying it just for the minis, now.

Yea, even the Join the Vanguard set is a two player starter now. And it's the better starter set now, in my opinion, since it also comes with the terrain. Sure, not everyone needs terrain, but a true starter set should come with some because it is an integral part of wargaming. Even GW has started shipping their starters with cardstock terrain of some type, usually using bits of the box itself.

And the Men at Arms really needed new figures....

But, the real question... Does the world really need an ogre paladin in full plate?

The Auld Grump - rather like the ogre palace guard... but I also like the idea of an inept ogre paladin running around trying to do good deeds....

I don't know about the rest of the world, but I need an Ogre in full plate....NEED.

EDIT: And having looked at the Kickstarter the Ogre Palace Guard looks awesome!

Yeah this is starting to tempt me. Not sold on the Night stalkers but I could find a use for them. But really liking the Basilean and Abyssal stuff... And rumors of the Northern Alliance coming next week...

I could use a couple boxes of the men at arms as well...

It comes down to the Nightstalkers vs the resin Basilean heroes and terrain... its a tough call, but I have a ton of terrain from other games already...

I keep going back and forth. They've set the pledge levels high enough to make the main pledge attractive, even though I hate the terrain pieces. That new dead spy looks like poop.

But if I get what I really want (Book + Nightstalkers) it's $75, which is a stupid price when for $10 more I can get some Abyssals I can use. And some terrain that will end up in a bag with my dungeon saga furniture under my shelves completely unloved.

I might just grab the Nightstalkers by themselves at $45, because the book + power dice are sure to be cheaper than $30 at retail. But then for $90 I could grab the Nightstalkers and the Abyssals, but I'm not really sure I need any of the Abyssal resin.

So for now I sit at $85. I guess.

I'll take the terrain off your hands after fulfillment. I've been borrowing my friends' terrain instead of having my own, so I'm looking forward to the stuff in this. It's a good basic set, I think.

You know, I just realized that they're using artwork, rather than renders or images of minis, for the Abyssal units. Does that mean that not only are the Basileans getting resculpted Men at Arms, but that the Abyssals are getting resculpted Lower Abyssals, Flamebearers, Gargoyles, and Succubi? They said in the update that they're waiting for renders of the artwork, but I wonder why they're working on resculpts of some of them. Are the Abyssals that bad that they need that many unit resculpts?

Edit: And speak of the devils, Mantic just said in the comments that the Lower Abyssals and the regular Succubi are the existing models, while everything else is new.

I do wonder if the book+dice combo will actually hit retail (other than on the mantic site), as most buyers will want a game (ie the 2 player starter) and mantic isn't a company that a lot stores/online places are going to sink a bunch of money stocking everything from, just the most saleable stuff

Hmm, I kind of just want all the Succubi stuff, the resin leader, the Succubi Lurkers and the hard plastic succubi. I already have a unit of the hard plastics that I use in pathfinder (as lesser succubi called Abyssal Vixens) and they are very nice... (heads are a bit underewhelming but otherwise very nice).

If they open up the option to add a unit of the Lurkers then I will be happy. Not really interested in most of the rest of the Abyssals. The northern alliance may tempt me though... And a unit of the hard plastic men at arms might be in the cards...

I think we all saw it coming, but here's the Giant!

Concept looks great; despite my love for Giants, I think I'll hold off on this one.  Funds+Mantic doesn't always stay true to concept.

I'm still intrigued by this thing, but have decided not too pledge for myself.

I did ask a buddy of mine to tack another rulebook onto his pledge for me, so maybe dive in a bit more at retail.

Changed my pledge to the Giant. I was already at $150, which was enough to cover everything new, so why not hope for a free giant as well? I've got a feeling the campaign is going to top out somewhere between $160k-$175k, so I'm pretty sure it'll hit $150k in the next 24 hours. If it goes beyond $175k, I'll honestly be surprised despite kicktraq projecting a low of $160k and a high of $190k.

Oh carp!

I hear what you're saying and I agree... but it's a Giant! And a Big Giant too!

I liked the quality of the big stuff in Mars Attacks and really like Mantics Walking Dead minis so I have a bit more faith in the concept than I might have had in the past.

Just drop a couple dollars and have access to the pledge manager. You know you want to...

I, too, am excited for the giant. Considering that the only other tall giant like that that I know of is GW's Gargant, which is like $50 for one, I'm glad to be able to get one in this kickstarter. I can only hope that it stays around $25-30 for retail and has some decent poseability with the arms and head...

      About
      Reborn
Frog God Games' wants to unleash the next iteration of its iconic Tome of Horrors series for 5th Edition (Swords & Wizardry & Pathfinder fans see More Details Section below). Hordes of sinister adversaries, restless dead, and other horrific monstrosities to gleefully challenge your players' expectations. Bursting with hundreds of creatures, new additions as well as converted classics, in a library-bound and stitched full color volume, the next Tome of Horrors will be a must have for your 5th edition campaign.
      Everybody needs more monsters.
The Tome of Horrors for Fifth Edition will include a selection of creatures from earlier volumes as a kick off for an entire series of fifth edition books.
      The Evolution of Horrors
A another victim of PC homicide described in earlier Tome of Horrors releases. The Tome of Horrors series was first launched by Necromancer Games in 2001 for the 3rd edition d20 rules. Since then, The Tome of Horrors line has spawned 4 classic volumes, two shelf breaking compendiums, and numerous softcover supplements.
Black & White Illustration from an earlier release of the Tome of Horrors. They have detailed beasts, demons, humanoids, elementals, dragons, devils, fey, extraplanar, undead, and even more for three different rule systems-
3.0/3.5 compatible editions    The Pathfinder Role-Playing Game System (including Starfinder Compatible Creatures, many of which work well as extra-planar new 5th Edition creatures!) Swords & Wizardry, Frog God Games' classically influenced fantasy rules. Above books responsible for rivers of imaginary blood and tears. We want to bring these monstrosities to 5th Edition with full color illustrations by top artists who have reimagined the entire catalog of creatures. Our eventual plan is to create a series of books encompassing the 2011 list of monsters, the TOH 4 list of monsters, and hundreds of others that we have included in books along the way, and will continue to add over time (both unique to these volumes and used in our other products). This release is the first step along that path.
      Redesigned
The Tome of Horrors series of books have always been some of Frog God Games/Necromancer Games top-selling books. In fact, our single largest sales day ever had us selling out of 2500 of these books in 3 hours!
New color art from Tome of Horrors To bring the Tome books to Fifth Edition they will need conversion and formatting upgrades in addition to other necessary changes to existing content. That process has been going on for awhile.
What will the new Tome of Horrors contain?
The original three volumes of The Tome of Horrors were combined and expanded into The Tome of Horrors Complete, released in 2011, which was bursting with monsters (over 700 pages of them). Yet it soon proved not to be complete enough for us (or for you). The siren call of more creatures was answered with the Tome of Horrors 4, adding another 280+ unusual and deadly monsters for your campaigns. These combined would be a titanic cyclopedia of creatures.
What about the creatures from the Necromancer archives?
      Yes, those are awesome.
The creatures from your newest releases like the Blight or Bard's Gate, how about those?
Those are dark and disturbing, we couldn't leave those out.
So this is a Tome of Horrors Complete for 5th edition with new material added?
Alas, no. It would one be a hell of a book, the kind we would want to make. It would come with one hell of a price tag, a price much higher than even The Slumbering Tsar Saga or The Blight. Even if everyone could afford it, it would break shelves, wallets, and backs. Most importantly, it is not possible. Physically the printer cannot produce a book that size without prohibitively costly custom work with which we have no production experience.
      Then what are you funding?
The first in a series of incredible books, a full color, high-quality core reference for Frog God Games’ 5e future releases, Tome of Horrors.
A huge majority of project pledge reward levels consists of 2 principle products. The eponymous book itself and/or a set of the Tokens of Horrors set. The actual combination and the formats of each is determined by your pledge level selection.
      The Rewards
Mock-up only, final design will change Tome of Horrors Hardcover: The printed version of Tome of Horrors. These are available as either the standard retail release or as a special high quality leather bound collector's edition. Every copy of any Frog God title comes with the matching PDF, Kickstarter rewards are no exception.
Page mock-up by layout frog Charles Wright A Note from the CEO— All Frog God Games hardcovers are stitched into 16 page packets, the packets are sewn together, and then all the packets are sewn to a cloth backing, creating a book block that is glued to its cover. This is what we mean when we say "library binding."
So, what does this mean to you?
Well first, you will note that our books cost a little more than others. That being said, after a myriad of book-binding issues both recently and dating back to 2nd Edition, there is nothing we hate to see more than someone investing in an expensive game book and having it fall apart on them after only a short period of regular use. We feel strongly that book production quality is king. After all, you guys spend a lot of money on your books!
Second, if a Frog God hardcover book ever falls apart (we have tested this with baseball bats and very rough use, by the way), we will replace it at no cost assuming we still have one in stock. Yes, that means if you call me in ten years, and your book binding has failed you (failed us really) through regular use (please no bulldozer roll overs), just email me and if the book is still in stock, we will mail you a new copy for free. Nothing I can do for you if they are all sold out though (but email me anyway and I'll hook you up in some way). It costs us a lot of money to do this, and our margins are somewhat lower than they could be as a result. Frog God Games stands behind our product (and sometimes on top of it when we need a ladder), and believe that the improved quality and durability of our work is well worth it.
      Tabletop & Virtual Tokens
Prototype of printed round tokens Printed tokens are dual-sided and are delivered on punch-out boards which are shrink wrapped at the point of manufacture. These will be printed similar to the tokens that Kobold Press released with the Tome of Beasts (here).
VTT tokens are a set of unaltered individual creature files with transparent backgrounds and a set of round digital tokens with a rear image behind the monster illustrations. Both sets are sized at 170x170 pixels in PNG format. They will be packaged in a compressed file for reward distribution.

I have been playtesting this one for a few months via PBP. It is an interesting twist on the worker placement style of games. It is worth at least checking out the rules (and maybe the print and play materials).

This Kickstarter campaign is a collaboration between legendary game designer Jennell Jaquays and sculptor Darcy Perry, following the appearance of ducks in the previous Star Hat Miniatures Kickstarter: Delvers Lost in the Dungeons of Doom III.
This is also an opportunity for YOU to contribute! With the Legendary Hero pledge, YOU can collaborate with us to bring new characters to the Quack Keep module and gaming table.
      The Module
This Kickstarter will provide funds for Quack Keep - inspired by classic game adventure modules of the past but written to be more approachable for a new generation of role-players and workable with a wide range of game rules thanks to the 5th Wall Generic Rank System. It even comes with a fold-out GM screen as a cover!

The title is a nod to Quag Keep, the first novel based on a roleplaying game, published by Andre Norton in 1978 - around the same time that Jennell Jaquays began producing Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and Runequest modules for Judges Guild. The Caverns of Thracia and Dark Tower are both best-selling examples of her early work, both still in print after almost 40 years.
The later inspired Legendary Duck Tower and other Tales, which included a ducky-pastiche of her original Dark Tower cover. It was due to this and her work for Chaosium that Jennell Jaquays "was pretty much labeled as that designer and artist who did the ducks."

There is a Stretch Goal unleashed for every 1k funding goal reached and each one is a game changer: a new Duck will appear! Either a new Duck Hero or Legendary Duck will be made available for you to choose as part of your pledge.

      About
The Wrath of Cichol is the first episodic release for Creatures of the Night.
Creatures of the Night is a fantasy miniature range (and perhaps, in the future, a game) designed by Krakon Games. Each chapter explores a period from the Lebor Gabála Érenn (Book of Invasions) - an Irish histro-mythology exploring the various races to inhabit and invade ancient Eriu (Ireland).
Chapter 1: The Wrath of Cichol introduces both the Fomorian adversaries and one of the first invaders - Partholón.
By backing this project you will help fund the production of Krakon Games' first fantasy range and be "rewarded" with your chosen models.
All models will be cast in resin and supplied without bases. Most are multi-part models that require a little cleaning and assembly.
There are 8 large character models available at project launch, with a list of stretch goals that will unlock as funding levels increase. If there's something on the stretch goal list you would like, feel free to include it in your pledge total to help unlock it.

      About

Your RPG adventures develop into a world like no other.  The places, the players, the trinkets and treasures that are discovered.
These vivid constructs exist in our imaginations in incredible detail - our aim is to bring each element of your RPG experience to life with an all new 3D modular dungeon!
Not just another STL file sale...
We're living in exciting times; 3D printing has emerged in a variety of industries for rapid prototyping and one-off on demand prints.
So far, 3D printing has proven extremely expensive for the average Joe given machinery, materials and equipment rental costs.  Frankly, printing a whole Dungeon is not practical or cost effective for the vast majority of RPG players.  That is, until now!
At RPG Factory, we do not sell virtual files which you'll need to print yourself - we've done all of the hard work for you!
We produce fully printed products so that you can assemble, paint and play in no time at all!

RPG Factory is built on talent and vision.  We have a huge amount of artistic, CAD and business experience which we're using to deliver a cost effective product which is durable, easy to assemble and practical for RPG gamers of all ages!
It's been 12 months in the making...
We've been developing our ideas for months, working out the kinks in our designs to make sure that our products strike a balance between looking good and functioning as gaming pieces.
We've taken the time to trial the modular system with gamers to make sure that it integrates properly with the most popular gaming systems.  Particularly ones which house fearsome giant lizards in giant concrete underworlds...
Finally, we've experimented with a number of different materials to ensure that the final product is extremely durable, captures detail and takes paint without discolouration or de-lamination.
Section of the Dungeon All of this effort and attention to detail has led us to our first Kickstarter, but we won't be stopping there!  The funding for this Kickstarter will be going straight back into the RPG Factory coffers so that we can expand on our range in the future (and boy do we have a lot of ideas for you!!)
So, if you want to immerse yourself in exciting new adventures, dive right in and Pledge today!
Crawl through the twisting corridors, facing terrible foes!

We have designed the dungeons to be as modular as possible, giving you a huge number of options!
A number of components within the Dungeon set can be used in different ways, further increasing versatility.
Our clip system allows your set to be assembled quickly, for testing layouts and re-engineering your network or corridors and rooms in minutes!
Our Dungeon components are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
