Welcome to the Forum!

Have fun!

Keep in mind purple texts are meant as jokes.

This is your second mini you painted?

Really?

This is awesome!

Tell me you painted model kits or something like that before!

This is excellent work!

Thanks!

Not my 2nd mini.  6th or 7th?

And, I admit, I have a theater set design degree.  So certain painting techniques and observations aren't foreign to me.  Though I haven't painted in years.  And certainly not at this scale with such small brushes and tools.  Many youtube videos have helped get the gears turning.

This is extremely nice for an early effort.

That is a pretty convincing evocation of metallic paints, right there!

It’s always interesting to me to see how people with an arts background approach miniatures painting.

(My background is not dissimilar. I collected (and painted) minis from forty years ago, nearly, but gave away my collection when adulting happened. Then I got a fine arts degree and eventually came back. I remain fascinated by all the different approaches people take.)

I love this little dude! Nice color scheme and good job! Do you happen to know what model this is? (edit) after checking the tags on the top of the post I see the model number now >_<

Oh, great!  Another novice who can paint better than I do after buying a comic book on painting and a house painting brush.

Having whinged,  that is some impressive work.

WELCOME ABOARD! I hope your stay is a LONG & MERRY affair...especially if you continue to post such SPLENDID miniatures.

The Vertically Challenged Warrior is a BEAUTY. Brushwork, basing, & color selection are OUTSTANDING. VERY WELL DONE!

I love it. Model looks awesome. Heck, you even made the left on metal that should have been clipped off the handel look better than what most painters can do.

A+

Oh wow, I hadn’t noticed that!

It makes the axe look a lot more balanced, I think.

Haha!  And I even referenced a few pics of the model and didn't notice it doesn't belong.

I was in the mood to try out some metallics, and the victimsubject this time was Finari (apologies for the subpar pics):

There were some issues with this sculpt. Most of her face was offset a couple millimeters forward, so there was an odd bump to one side. Additionally, her left foot has a large chunk that just isn’t there, just below the sword. These I hid as best I could.

For the majority of her armor, I mixed three parts Royal Purple with one part Honed Steel. Compared to some other combinations I’ve tried out lately, this ended up being a nice metallic while keeping close to the base color.

Rivets and ornamentation were done in Antique Gold with New Gold highlights. Not pleased with how splotchy the breastplate turned out, however.

There was one detail that still eludes me. You can see in the rear view a lump of some sort next to her shield. It isn’t part of her arm or any bit of armor that I’m aware of, so I made it into a...brownish leather thing.

C&C appreciated, armor isn't something I’ve done much of and I need to get better at it.

I painted this lovely lady over the last week as my first project post-Reapercon. I wanted to apply some of the things that I learned but also have fun with her.
She was a really great learning experience, thanks to everyone who gave me great feedback in my WIP thread: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/77557-01450-all-hallow’s-eve/&page=1

This was my first experience “flying blind” with NMM, as on previous attempts, I’d followed the highlighting of other painters’ examples. There is no painted example in the store yet, so I had to just wing it. @Kuro Cleanbrush gave me some much appreciated advice that I’m definitely going to keep using moving forward.

This was was my first attempt at OSL, it’s not perfect by any means, but I’m pretty pleased with it.

Let me know what y’all think, criticism is always very much wanted - it helps me learn and improve!

For your consideration: Reaper Bones miniature Female Anti-Paladin.

It wasn't until I started on my idea for the shield that I realized that *it* was the Main Character. Not exactly a daemon-possessed sword, but a symbiotic relationship none-the-less. Extravagant tone with bright, decadent colors. She-Hulk for the hair.  Massive Voodoo for the dots. (More dots!) My cat Zen for the eyes. (He's a Tom.) Lots of non-textured areas to tell a story. Great player character or reoccurring NPC.
A lesson of extreme - in Color and form. The armor was protective but the clothing was tattered like a torn mesh bodysuit. Heavy straps encircled limbs and the armored boots formed like hooves. Toothy maw adornment on the armor hints at hunger. A very introspective Pin-Up.

      I hope you enjoy. :)

I attended PAX Aus this weekend on the Saturday and Sunday and stopped by the Reaper Paint and Take area on both days! I was excited since I didn't get to spend any time there last year.

Saturday I entered the speed painting competition, we were given an hour to paint the Townsfolk Mom and Kids. It was such a fun challenge! I won!

I won an amazing little medal! Eeee! I was so flattered.

The next day I also entered the 'paint and take' competition, which was to sit down and paint a miniature on the day. I spent two hours painting upthis Bones Terezinya figure:

And I won another trophy! I had so much fun, and everyone working hard at the Paint and Take area did such an amazing job. It was an amazing weekend. I don't often get to paint around other people or be exposed to so much Reaper-y goodness! One day I will make it to Reaper Con, one daaaay!

I'm starting to get lost here, so I figured I'd make an index of stuff I've posted. Many of these are loaded with enough pics and text that they're almost mini-tutorials. Questions and comments are always welcome. If you don't get a reply within a couple days, find me on Facebook, or add me on Battle.net (Xumenicus#1118).
