Clay sculptors

Recommended Posts

What firms of clay sculptors have you all used? I am trying to decide between white and black (firm/soft) I currently use a rubber sculptor which works, but I feel like its time to upgrade. Any ideas?

I like the Royal Sovereign ones, preferably size 0, Extra Firm. I use the Flat Chisel mostly, but the Taper Point and Angle Chisel see some use, too.

But I've also used cheap packs of knock-offs from China, and they were pretty good too!

The ones I use are so old they've long since had any company names rubbed off the handles, and were all collected at various times over the years, so I'm not much help on this one... I really need to replace them some day.

In any event, I like the firmer tips for most of my work, but use the softer ones for some of the final smoothing and blending.

But you prefer a firmer tip?

Yes - I've not seen a huge difference, but they don't wear out as quickly.

I use firm ones myself.  I have three sets, two size zero and one size 2.  I also have a softer set that I use when I'm messing around with sculpy.
