My 2018 hobby goals include:

  • Running a Dark Conspiracy RPG for my gaming group
  • Running a Frostgrave/Ghost Arch game at Reapercon in October
  • Painting the 10 miniatures from the hasslefree kickstarter
  • Painting the 6 miniatures from the Going Native kickstarter
  • Painting the 5 miniatures from the Bear's Head kickstarter
  • Continue painting the Monthly Mithril Miniatures (On track with one)
  • Reduce and limit the WIP box (formerly the shelf o' shame) to 6 figures. It currently sits at 12

So for the month of January in keeping with my 2018 goals I plan to:

  1. Paint a Mithril Miniature for the month
  2. Finish three figures from my WIP box
  3. Paint a character mini for Dark Conspiracy
  4. Paint a monster figure for Ghost Arch

Hopefully I will keep to my longer term goals better this year than last.

The goal for this month is to see how many painting days I can string together.  I'm shooting for at least 30 minutes of painting every day except Thursdays (I play DnD on Thursday nights; though I may bring a small paint kit to the store with me so I can still get in my 30 minutes of painting).

Minis to work on/finish this month:

My DnD character: wizard

Shield Golem my Wizard acquired: Bones Iron Golem

Bones Fire Sphere (if I acquire enough Bones Fire Walls for the Wall of Fire spell, then I'll do that too)

Finish and base Wyrm Gear

well I did ok in December, except my poor Bonesylvanians. From December:

  • finish 3 bonesylvanians
  • Paint 3 Warbuggies
  • Paint 1 Dakkajet
  • work on new Terrain piece - gonna be a ruined Egyptian temple I think

For 2018, I toyed with the idea of doing a mini inventory but I can't be bothered. It would take time away from painting.

Short term (January) goals:

  • finish my Ork Lootaz (aprox 12 models)
  • finish my Ruined Temple terrain project
  • finish the poor Bonesylvanians
  • base two of the 'weeping angels' bones models (already painted)

Long term goals:

  • finish my ork army (roughly 1 battlewagon, lootaz, lots of nobz and grots, Mek Gunz and Flash Gitz - latter two not yet purchased)
  • finish at least 52 monster models for our RPGs (I figure 1 a week should be doable, right? right?!?)
  • paint Mythic Battles: Pantheon models
  • start my Ratticus Mechanicus army (this would be GWs Skitarrii models with Skaven heads and other conversions, I don't think it'll be finished in 2018)

My year-long goals are to improve and to work on my literal pile of unpainted minis, while trying not to increase it to a ridiculous level. I will probably fail on that last part.

For January:

Actually get a storage system set up

Put magnetic bases on all my pewter figures with delicate bits (and learn from my mistakes)

Go back and clean up my finished minis, and reseal them (and repeat, learn from my mistakes)

Practice gap filling and boiling on Kaladrax

Get paint on Maal Drakar with ridiculous and unprecedented speed

2018 Year Goals

Finish painting Romans, goblins and High Elves.

Work on other armies, warbands and random things that catch my attention.

Finish the Tyrant of Halpi dragon.

Make more terrain including a castle.

Improve my painting and just try to build, paint and play as often as possible.

January goals

Finish Romans. 6 camel riders 50% painted and 12 velites partially painted to go.

Goblins. 5 wolf riders and about a dozen pathfinder goblins primed and waiting. Decide how I'm going to build the Oathmark goblins and assemble them. Touch up and reassemble 20 Thunderbolt Mountain heavy goblins with spears. These are painted but without shields and have gotten banged up over the years.

Terrain. Build a roughly circular hilltop surrounded buy cliffs suitable for the DDS2 ruins to sit on. Build 2 craggy ridges.

Make some more flock.

It's been between -15 and -20 C INSIDE my garage this past week. Didn't feel like using my foam cutter under those conditions. No ventilation in my hobby hole so I try to do the majority of the stinky stuff in the garage. It's suppose to be getting warmer soon and I'm feeling almost healthy again. The garage is usually about 10 degrees warmer than outside so once it gets close to 0 I'm fine working with no gloves on.

January's already off to a blazing start for me. I've finished 4 velites and made a clump of 3 trees already this year! Ok, I cheated a bit. All I painted today was the shield bosses on 4 minis. They're done unless I try to paint some kind of design on the shields but I'm not sure what or if yet. The trees were also based yesterday. Today I just hairsprayed and flocked them so they look better.

Why not join in.  I'm new here, but on the other hand I like the vibe this place has, and doubly so just how friendly and encouraging it is.

For Q1...

  • Set up a dedicated miniatures workspace.  Painting at my gaming area gets too cramped, way too quickly
  • Pick up the Learn to Paint Kits, as well as additional paints from Reaper, and maybe other companies too ---LTPK's acquired Jan 5th, 2018!
  • Regain the "courage" I had fifteen years ago to just paint, and not worry about this or that (or, in other words, paint, and learn while doing such)
  • Join the Rainbow Dragon challenge --- Joined, hubby joined as well, and my dragon and paints are in, hubby's to be ordered still

For 2018...

  • Pick up a "handful" of miniatures from various companies
  • Start a few Nefsokar and Koborlas minis, because I like the look of them
  • Pick up some CAV miniatures because 'mechs.

Welcome WhiteWulfe!

I've just been doing yearly goals and then not looking at them. This year I'm going to do monthly goals, put them on a sticky and stick it somewhere that I might see it.

January Goals

Finish minis I've promised to paint for others, which currently sits at 14. To keep it simple, only going to plan on 2 battletech mechs and 2 fantasy figures.

I was at the 2018 Adepticon in Schaumburg, Illinois last month helping out at the Reaper Paint & Take tables.

I took pictures of the stupendous international Crystal Brush competition entries and other minis and terrain with an eye towards the interests of the people on this forum. Also some fun cosplay and miscellaneous interest.

I can't guarantee my photographs are great. I was using two cameras with very different capabilities and strengths and I am not a professional photographer. Some of the pictures use a very harsh flash because it allowed for super sharp enlargements of detail, something I thought painters here would be interested in.

I didn't know which entries would win the Crystal Brush competition, and as it turns out I missed the third-place winner. I have got pictures of the first and second place winners.

So to begin with, here is this year's first place entry, "Apocalypse", a diorama by Michal Pisarski.

And this is the second place winner, "The Name of the Wind", a diorama by Sergio Calvo. My pictures of this are not so good, I'm afraid.

      The roolz:

      The obligatory rules posting:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. If I fail to post a question, Inara (possibly) will post a question of her own choice.
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted between 6AM and 8AM EST
3.5 (Rule 3 may be the 2nd most broken rule.)
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me.
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why are always fun).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day challenges, often starting on Fridays.
