Probably the two week vacation with Mrs. Gargs. Very relaxing and very needed at the time. :)

As for the hobby part, no one specific thing sticks out, more that I was happiest with getting back into the swing of things after a long hiatus.

Seeing as it's only 11 hours and 24 minutes old (in my time zone, anyway), I guess I can say it was quiet and good for sleeping.::P:

More serious answer later...

Well we survived Cyradis :poke: so we should make out with you, Thes. ::): Happiest memory is the birth of our daughter. Hobby related isn't really one thing but all of the things that have come together for me. The wife gave me permission to take over part of the utility room for my toys and I did a massive migration of figures from the farm to town, got a permanent painting area set up and a bunch of things just clicked to make it possibly the most productive year I've ever had for painting and building. Now if I can only get more playing in.

Finally getting a job after over 6 months of looking for one. It's been a roller coaster ride of different ones since then, but I'm glad I've found one that wants me back when the season starts again.

I finished one of my most fun scenes, which was my mind eater (Would post the Show Off but there's no pictures because Photobucket=Pure Evil). I'm also immensely pleased to be a part of the Random Rainbow Dragon Challenge with @Cyradis and @Sirithiliel, and I'm absolutely awestruck by how many of you have joined in on the fun. I'm happy to say that I've gotten a dragon for this challenge as well, and hope that I can get to it soon enough.

I was able to download some of my old photos from photobucket to my current computer and then post them elsewhere. So they aren't totally lost, it's just a pain to get at them. And of course any links are blown.

Nothing really jumps out, the year was mostly 'meh'. Getting to meet a whole bunch of you folks in person was pretty cool, though.

Hobby related: I got a lot of compliments on this guy: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/76720-2015-reapercon-banquet-mini-painted-for-reapercon-2017-wip/&tab=comments#comment-1615242

at Reapercon this year, and that felt pretty good. (I really need to get around to unpacking the case he's in and taking some show off pics....)

Both are hobby related: I sculpted a bust and got a gold medal for it. That means that my hard work is paying off. :D

The progress photos for her is in my signature (the sculpting link).

No automatic alt text available.

It still feels weird posting about a thing I did that I actually like. It feels... smug. I am not smug. D: I DONT KNOW

Political schadenfreude, so to speak.

Hobby-wise I haven't done really any work of note.  Hopefully that will change over the course of 2018.

The majority of the issues with my never-ending Workers Comp. situation settled and the incredibly stressful financial pressure was finally removed from my family.

Hobby Related:  Heartburn the Colossal Red Dragon with a somewhat tattered box decided to take up residence in my office and has now become its official lair.  A previous owner carelessly lost its stat card [Heartburn was a thrift store foundling] and I am searching for a replacement card.

I am sure many are contemplating Resolutions for the New Year. This is great, however, before I get to the usual questions on what are people's resolutions, I want to do something a bit different.

Many improvement specialist's recommend visualizing your 'ideal state'. By visualizing where we want to go, we not only start to make it real in our minds, and create a direction for ourselves. Usually the person would draw their 'ideal state'. I am ok with people describing it here in text, but if people would like to draw it (or get even more creative) I highly encourage it!

The 'Ideal State' is vague on purpose. This could be "What I want to be when I grow up." or "What do I want my life to look like in 5/10 years", or Hobby related "What would I like to accomplish with my hobbies".

January 2nd

What is your 'Ideal State'?

Please provide a drawing or a description of the visual image of what that ideal state would look like.

Epic Level Bonus: Create Diorama of your Ideal State using your minis and mini supplies.

(Given that many of us have a lot of fantasy minis, it could be either a fantasy allegory to your goals, or just your ideal state but set in a fantasy setting.)

(I will post my diorama a bit later, but I can't wait to see what other people come up with.)

Wife and I have been visualizing a more idealized state for several years.

This is the year that it finally will [hopefully] happen.

We want to move to the Carson City, Nv. area both to get out of California and to be closer to family, who actually live in the Roseville, Cal. area.

Daughter wants us to move closer to her within California, but it just isn't going to happen, for a multitude of reasons involving Broccoli and Bees [if you are paying any attention to what the Cali. State Legislature is doing you may have some insight into what I am referring to] among other reasons, one of which is proximity to the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

Our needs are at least 3 bedrooms, and I need a large garage [weather proofed to the same level as the house including HVAC] for my various interests, separate from the place where the cars live.  We need a large lot, one acre or more with 5 acres being optimal in order to insure enough space to deal with my Hyperacusis problems effectively.  Fruit trees would be a big plus, with a large lawn being a minus [more time for yardwork means less time for hobbying].

We also need an active Odd Fellows and Rebekahs Lodge, which is checked off in the Carson City area and we have many fraternal friends who belong there.  Multiple FLGS is a big plus, and Carson City checks this box as well.

It took me a long time to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Always had some general interests that roughly converged. But here is a description of "the ideal future me".

Someday I'll be a geology (mineralogy/petrology) professor. I'll do regular field work in awesome locations around the world and bring samples back to the labs. I'll teach, and develop new courses. Although not a main focus, I'd like to contribute to geoscience education. I love my field of geology, and this is the best way for me to share that. The world is too awesome. I'd also like to unite miners with geologists for mutual benefit - often miners get tired of know-it-alls, and geologists may overlook the observations of the miners (who see everything all the time). That is a problem I can help solve.

Sir Cyr and I will someday have a house together of our own, and I think we'd want it slightly out of a city but close enough to have amenities and not bad commute (might be wishful thinking). We'll have some spawn someday, and critters for the spawn to play with - thinking a goat, dog, snake, and lizard. And I'd adopt a cat if a cat found me, but wouldn't seek one out. If the schools in the area stink, I'd figure out a way to homeschool/professor-stuff simultaneously. I was homeschooled. I think I turned out okay.

Painting? I need a room for hobby-stuffing. So does Sir Cyr. I'd like to be at a point where I can come home and fart around with my hobbies for a while, without regular hideous stress. I'd also like to get back into gardening. Two summers ago I grew a phenomenal vegetable garden. I bit off more than i could chew. There were 36 lush tomato plants.... and then all the other veggies. I'd like to do that again. It was fun. And I really want my profession to cover traveling to cool places in general (and figure out ways to drag family as "field assistants").

Maybe wishful thinking. But this seems like it would be a pretty good life to have. I think I am en route to it - but getting there is scary.

No Epic Level Challenge. Too busy sortof de-stressing, and I don't have the allemental that I have in mind as myself (fire, air, water, earth). Remind me to draw her someday.

My ideal state right now, is reaching a point to where I can figure out what my ideal state is.

Not being a smart elf.  I was extremely suited to military life, because I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up.  The Navy was supposed to just be a 6 year hitch to get money for college, and training for a career.  6 years turned into 10, then I got out, then 9/11 and I was back in and on to 24 years total.  I knew what was expected of me (the Navy told me) and what I had to do to reach the various milestones.  Now, I show up to work, put my time in and go home.

Other than that I just seem to react to things.  I've got a pretty good job, very low stress, good pay for the actual amount of work that I do.  It's not particularly challenging, and while I don't dread coming into work, I'd still rather not (except for the whole money thing).  I've given college a try, managing to get my Associates, and while I like learning in general, I hate taking college courses, losing interest  a couple of weeks into the semester.  Even things that I enjoy, such as painting, I don't have a huge motivation to actual start.  I tend to just fritter the time away.

Considering that it was -13 degrees (Fahrenheit for the metric folks) when I woke up, I'd say my ideal state right now is Arizona, or maybe Florida.
