As we move into the new year, Let's reflect on what we liked about 2018.

January 1st.

What was your most HAPPY memory of 2017?

Hobby Related Bonus: What is the hobby/craft thing you are the happiest with from last year?

(Post pictures, or links to Show Off/WIP threads.)

Back in February, my Grandson, Liam was born. AND a couple of months later I was able to have my cochlear implant up graded & working once again.

I am sure many are contemplating Resolutions for the New Year. This is great, however, before I get to the usual questions on what are people's resolutions, I want to do something a bit different.

Many improvement specialist's recommend visualizing your 'ideal state'. By visualizing where we want to go, we not only start to make it real in our minds, and create a direction for ourselves. Usually the person would draw their 'ideal state'. I am ok with people describing it here in text, but if people would like to draw it (or get even more creative) I highly encourage it!

The 'Ideal State' is vague on purpose. This could be "What I want to be when I grow up." or "What do I want my life to look like in 5/10 years", or Hobby related "What would I like to accomplish with my hobbies".

January 2nd

What is your 'Ideal State'?

Please provide a drawing or a description of the visual image of what that ideal state would look like.

Epic Level Bonus: Create Diorama of your Ideal State using your minis and mini supplies.

(Given that many of us have a lot of fantasy minis, it could be either a fantasy allegory to your goals, or just your ideal state but set in a fantasy setting.)

(I will post my diorama a bit later, but I can't wait to see what other people come up with.)

My Ideal State is unconscious, with or without dreams.

Every minute of my ongoing love affair with things of a miniature nature is a joy.

My ideal state right now, is reaching a point to where I can figure out what my ideal state is.

Not being a smart elf.  I was extremely suited to military life, because I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up.  The Navy was supposed to just be a 6 year hitch to get money for college, and training for a career.  6 years turned into 10, then I was over the half way point and freshly married; getting out then seemed like a very dumb idea, so I went to 20.  I knew what was expected of me (the Navy told me) and what I had to do to reach the various milestones.  Now, I show up to work, put my time in and go home.

I have a pretty decent job , that pays pretty well, but is somewhat stressful ( it doesn't help that I create some of that stress myself ). I'm not sure if I want to continue with this job or seek other employment. If I decide to seek other employment, I'm not sure what to do. Staying with the field I have all my experience (and an Associate's degree) in seems to make the most sense, but I'm not sure if it's what I want to do anymore.

( I have edited what Dilvish said to make it match my reality)

Pretty much what he said.

Boringly happy with my hubby. To outsiders it would probably look like the most boring tv show in the world, Hubby and I just chilling and doing stuff together. Like, seriously, if the NSA or whoever, is watching us, I feel sorry for them.

To be quite ideal it would be nice for us to each have jobs where we aren't stressed or made tense by being there. It would be good to have easy access to friends and family with whom we can hang out with regularly. And we need furry friends. For me a cat works. Hubby would prefer a Large Dog, so we'll need a house with a yard.

Like I said, boring as all get out for anyone else. Heaven for us.

Stress free would be ideal, but will happen when hell freezes over (or the browns win the super bowl, either is the same likelihood.) It'd be nice to NOT have my Blood pressure consistently in the (pre)hypertension range from environmental variables....

Of course, some of our Californians might enjoy the additional real estate too...

Or... wait... maybe I misinterpreted this a bit... hmmmmm.... more thought required....

My ideal would be waking up refreshed every morning after 9-10 hours of unbroken sleep, and find myself with no pain.  I can handle anything after that.  Otherwise, I'm satisfied with a home, a loving husband, good friends, no debts, furry friends, and more minis than I can paint in my lifetime.

I suppose I'd say my ideal state would pretty much be a permanent stay-at-home vacation.

Because you asked for a picture I found this one. I'm a white guy but with a hefty chunk of native ancestry. A good friend, a good horse and the wide open spaces. I know the good ole days weren't really better but I often long for the theoretical simplicity and sense of belonging.

NMG42.jpg

I'm kind of in the same state of mind as Dilvish and Chaoswolf but without the military service. All my life I worked my butt off to try and achieve my dad's dreams. Never had a driving focus of my own. I'm a very good day to day problem solver and support person. Not sure whether or not I'm the best choice for long term planning but I'm all I have. Dad wasn't perfect but he tried to do the best he could for the people around him. The way he went about it meant that some of the people didn't even realise what he was doing for them. Then people being what they are some deliberately sabotaged him. He and I fought and worked together for all my life and watched it go to hell. Kind of got things straightened out and now he's gone. Still alive but with no memory of most things.

Some people don't understand what we went through and I'm still dealing with the financial and emotional wreckage left wondering if it was worth it. Life ain't bad. I've got a lot of good things and the potential is there but the heart and soul has been ripped out of our family. Went from a big clan helping each other to just my mother, wife and kids. Certain people are jealous of me because I was the "big winner" in the stupid fight. But none of them put into it what I did and it wouldn't take much for it all to go down badly still. It's doubtful if the kids will want to continue what my dad and I've built but I'll keep at it because it's what I know best. They need to try and find their own places in the world. Trying to find peace and order in myself and hoping that will carry over into what's around me. Anybody that's dealt with a divorce or estate battle would likely understand it.

My second son graduated high school and paid cash for his first car.

I assembled a whole bunch of 40k miniatures.  Painting?

Not so much.

Right now, my ideal state is having adjusted to being divorced, the financial impacts of that, and having completed my bachelor's degree (which will happen in autumn).  I've still got a way to go before I get there.

Other than that I just seem to react to things.  I've got a pretty good job, very low stress, good pay for the actual amount of work that I do.  It's not particularly challenging, and while I don't dread coming into work, I'd still rather not (except for the whole money thing).  I've given college a try, managing to get my Associates, and while I like learning in general, I hate taking college courses, losing interest  a couple of weeks into the semester.  Even things that I enjoy, such as painting, I don't have a huge motivation to actual start.  I tend to just fritter the time away.

Yup. I've been retired for four years now, have a decent paying job that I don't mind yet don't enjoy either...but it pays the bills.  I'm coming to the conclusion that I don't really know what I want to be career-wise and don't particularly care.  At this point I see the job as the enabler for the things I want to do, not the thing I want to do.  Regarding hobby stuff...well, you see how much I post in Show Off right?  I post every finished miniature there.

I am one of those "I wasn't born in Texas but got here as soon as I could" types, and this was my initial response...but I was beaten to the punch.

The 'Ideal State' must, necessarily be that of an ideal gas. Therefore, in 5-10 years, I picture myself as an expanding cloud of vapor.

Does emitting expanding clouds of vapor count? If so, I'm well on my way.
