01-129 Celestial Dragon

Recommended Posts

Those waxy pastes that came with the dragons were Ral Partha's "Dragonscale™ Metallic Wax Rub On"... They were released as a set as well, in little jars that screwed together top-to-bottom in a stack. I still have most of the set.

I really need to find myself a copy of this guy sometime. He's awesome.

I love that you remained very minimal on this one.  I picked up a repro of this a couple years ago, digging through a bin of random pieces in order to find the whole thing.  I agree with the not being sure how exactly to handle it because it's so pretty.  But pretty is why I got it.  And you did a great job with the application of less is more.

DSM5012  Lannister Lady in Waiting sculpted by Tom Meier.  I'm not sure how long this one was on my shelf of shame.  I had originally intended to attempt a sheer fabric effect.  Once I got the basic skin tones done, I couldn't figure out her eyes and she got abandoned.  Because I am forcing myself to clear my shelf of shame, I went looking for other finished versions of her.  Turns out, her eyes are closed and she has long eyelashes.  I put my effort on this one into blending on the orange dress, her skin and her hair.

      Good morning,

so here's my last little painted piece of happiness, another Hackmaster figure that Ral Partha has gotten a hold of, a human thief.  I actually kind of have begun liking these figures quite a lot, as they feel like prototypes of their classes so often, kind of generic, but very nicely done in that old school feel.  I wanted dark colors for this one, but didn't want just black, so hopefully gave him a bit of variety with the colors.

This sculpt is a lot of fun.  I've been meaning to paint him for a long time.

I tried to do a kind of swirling water effect on the base, using Woodland Scenics Water Effects.  Not sure how well it shows in the photos.

And of course, then I had to do this:

      Good evening all,

so just finished this one, another really fun and adventurous Dwarf sculpted by Jim Johnson back in 2002-2003. Another piece from the Hackmaster line from Kenzer and Company, but was acquired by Ral Partha and now being cast by them.  Hopefully dwarfy enough colors, started out with his skin as tanned highlights and gave him some nice black hair.  I thought about doing something with the runes on his axe but then just figured I'd leave them as metal.

      Enjoy!

These gorgeous wolves (Thunderbolt Mountain 8560) are the nicest giant wolf sculpts I have ever seen. They are by the legendary Tom Meier.

IMPORTANT: TOM MEIER IS CLOSING HIS THUNDERBOLT MOUNTAIN STORE DEC. 25 OF THIS YEAR, SO IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, GO THERE NOW!

They are pretty big.  I mounted them on 1.5" fender washers for extra stability.  Tom Meier sells optional goblin riders for them.
