Holding parts while super gluing

Recommended Posts

So i was getting frustrated trying to hold two pices together as i waited for the super glue to dry. I didn't want to use accelerator as I have found the bond not as strong. I also didn't have a third hand to spray it with. After a few dropped tries, I came up with the idea to use my alligator clips and some never dry clay to hold the pieces while the glue set. The clay allows me to adjust the height, angle and pressure as needed.

I use of those clamp things with the heavy base. Works pretty well. I've looked up a few more on amazon that are for model boats and what not that have multiple flex-and-stay- arms on them.

Yah allot of various Asian hobby companies sell this style as well. Also they sell what looks like dense packed corrugated cardboard bases. You just stick em in the holes. It's what I use for model parts when spray painting them. Very effective method I must say.

Search for 'IC Mini Grabber' on eBay...

ic_mini_grabber.jpg.20cde6b9b47050fd5d4b5cf8c529ead5.jpg

For when you need to hold a small part with a pin in it...

There's a couple of other styles of gripper that shows up also. A flat one that is very similar, and a longer one with a more 'syringe' like look.

Both of thosee have 'claw' grips(two L-shaped pieces of metal facing each other) and the round in the picture having a simpler hook.

Claw type tip:

Can't find a decent picture of the simple hook type right now.

Get a pack or two of both style grippers, they're worth it.

I think for using what's on your desk it's an ingenious solution!  Creative, reusable, and useful so fits all the categories, doubly so since it prevents gluing your fingers together while swearing about how they won't hold together...
