Female Humanoid Dragons????

This is inspired by a post by @redambrosia in the GTKY thread. I didn't want to take that thread OT, so II'm starting this here.

So, as a sculptor who likes humanoid dragons: Whaaa?  :blink:

OK, so reptiles do have females, but they have no mammary glands and no outward facing sexual organs (even the males have everything inside the body).  In some reptiles, the females are less fancy than the males (e.g., smaller crests, smaller spines, no dewlap, duller colors). Very little of this will translate to "female" in minis.

So without adding mammalian breasts, how would one go about making a female, humanoid dragon?

This, IMHO, IS a female (or at least, I so thought of her as I sculpted her; if you look at my post on these, you'll note that I always refer to them as "it" because really, only they know.):

B2.jpg

size (make it bigger) rounder belly and hips(if you mean it to be an egg laying critter, it needs to have space to create and store such), less display features (smaller/lesser crests, smoother face etc).

but honestly, it's a fantasy critter you can do anything you like

Hmm, if you take a Dragon as Reptile approach you could also end up with the females being larger that the males, as many reptiles work that way  as it means the female gets to lay more eggs

If I remember properly, this -

14096_G.jpg

Is supposed to be a female.

The Auld Grump - you can tell, but only because it was printed on the blister pack....

I have that one!

Reptilians/Dragonkind, how to make one look female without adding mammal parts?

*** Glances to the left, glances to the right***

*** Sculpt a purse?***

*** Ducks and runs***

Only if the figure is looking up, away from the purse, avoiding eye contact with everybody.

The Auld Grump - who has not escaped unscathed....

That has me thing about painting it in REALLY bright colors.

But that crest makes me tink its a male, female lizards don't go in for bright displays.

Pfft! I would never be seen with something so lacking in masculinity!

The Auld Grump <- Sometimes wears a kilt.... And carries a messenger bag (man-purse) at other times...

Re: "svelte body" female.

In many (maybe even most?) organisms, it is the male who is "svelte." females are sometimes larger than their male kin (the tendency towards larger mass likely being the result of the increased energetic demands of egg laying/ rearing young).

The clothes, it turns out, really do make the man. During the Golden Age of Piracy, there were a number of pirates who were AFAB who, when stripped of their shirts for a flogging, were described having "fatty chests" and no one on board seemed to even suspect they might be women. Or there's this picture from an art project in Hull a few years ago:

https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2016/jul/09/thousands-strip-naked-in-hull-for-spencer-tunick-photographs

Until you see the penises, you really have no idea who might be a blue man standing casually and who might be a blue woman standing casually.

I expect the phenomenon to be even more pronounced in other species, unless they have serious sexual dimorphism, which in reptiles seems to consist almost entirely in terms of size and coloration.
