Hello everyone,

Some of you already know my Roza Shanina build (Check here ->Let's present ... Roza Shanina<-) and my Russian tank commander and tank rider build (Check here ->Painting female Soviet tank commanders and tank riders<-) and some might have noticed the little glimpse of what I was working on at the headswap topic (check ->here<-).

But now it is time to present the project as a whole.

Whoever is interested in the background of the project might find an answer in this post ->here<-

So, let's get started.

As at the the time I started the project my sculpting skills were far inferior to what I am able to do today, I needed some plain surface for sculpting female attributes onto the body.

Luckily Warlord Games had just released a number of Soviet Russians in winter clothing, so I took the opportunity to get me a box of them and started working.

Unfortunately the heads I wanted to use were unavailable so I began working on the bodies alone. Not a problem for me. I am running around headless most of my time, so I know what I am doing.

jykm-1ly-7d41.jpg

After having cut out and cleaned the bases, it was time to go onto the bodies.

jykm-1m4-d9a7.jpg

jykm-1m5-a5e8.jpg

Using some greenstuff it was rather easy to make males into females. And luckily there are a lot of reference pictures  of real female soldiers in WWII. Yeah - well. Those who know me know that I normally reject reality and substitute my own. Therefore - mixed real and anime approaches to make the girls visually appealing on a greater distance.

I do have this thing about WWII  stuff. Soviets always start Al Stewart's Roads to Moscow playing through my head.

That, however, is just me. Have FUN with the project. Thanks for the links by the way; re, I had missed post threads.

Well - I have my own feelings about this topic and thought I use a lot different stuff and do a more humorous approach, I still try to stay fair and respectful to it.

Thanks for the comment.

And some progress:

Copplestone's Bolshevik Heroines as command group:

jykm-1mp-5e81.jpg

jykm-1mq-4fec.jpg

Vitalia and Vladimira, two sisters from Siberia will be Commissar units. Well, makes sense. I mean - one is a chain smoker and the other one was a well-known opera singer. A perfect match. Maybe one of them will later become mayor of a small Russian town. We will see.

jykm-1mr-e501.jpg

Then there is Olga. She is our flag bearer. I have to do some improvements on her. I mean ... she should be in Winter Clothes. Not summer.

jykm-1ms-466c.jpg

And then there are Anastasia Zhukova and her bodyguard Irina. First one was a cossack girl back in the days, the latter will be an NKVD agent.

But now - let's have a look at the infantry unit:

jykm-1mt-397d.jpg

Finally there are some heads. Yay! So three figures are already ready to be painted.

jykm-1mu-dd79.jpg

And the first machine-gun team and Sergeant Jekaterina Romanova.

jykm-1mv-d06d.jpg

jykm-1mw-cd1b.jpg

jykm-1mx-b156.jpg

They all have got slightly different uniforms. I needed to do some testing for the "perfect" colour, but I think all those slight variations are great for later personality of the different characters.

Next stop: Painting!

A wonderful project you have going, enjoying this thread.

Very keen on Copplestone Castings, all of their "Back of Beyond" range has potential for this sort of conversion.

Haha. Thanks.

Yeah. I really like the Heroines. They perfectly fit to the other sculpts and still stand out.

Thanks for the comment.

First group of figures is already finished.

Yeah. I think afar from the Roza character, this is the best figure of the whole set of female Soviets ;-D I am really proud of her.

Thanks for the comment!

I like the work you're doing!  Are you aware that Bad Squiddo out of England has an assortment of Russian Female troops?  I have all of them they've come out with so far and they're quite nice.  :)

They also have the She-Wolves the female Nazi troops.

And many other female miniatures from all kinds of ranges and eras.

Might be useful for conversion purposes.

They do have a conversion corner with female heads and such as well.

Yes I know. They weren't available when I started the project and they are all in summer uniforms. I got a couple of them for the project just to notice that they are just partially usefull. So I didn't buy more. The tank riders and tank commanders are from Annie's website.

Yeah. You know I am totally sick of all this Nazi stuff. She-wolves, werewolves, zombies ... I don't need it.

I got a lot of other female figures from Annie, though. A lot of good sculpts. I used one to create a Devola Style figure for one of my Sci Fi games. Haha.

And the heads ... yeah. Well - that's what's on my Ice Witches.

Further updates later this evening.

      Salvete, Amici!

Phew ... some time since I wrote that last time ... haha!

Well then: Time to feel the might of the Roman Legion, the breast best army of ancient Europe!

I planned to be abscent from painting for some time more, but it happened that I got a more or less good reason to start again. A friend of mine who I have known for quite some time now - he is one of the master minds behind some of the Gallia to Arms builds - I decided to make a little present for him.

Anyway ... this guy is a great fan of the Roman legion and he even has an 28mm Roman army. He is creating his army a bit in the style of an Asterix Roman army, having bought some of the characters and using them in his force.

But he still misses a force commander - and that is where I come into play. On the last Tactica wargaming event, I got a female Roman centurion from the Hot&Dangerous brand and I immediately thought what a great force commander she would make. Alea iacta est!

I don't know what would be a better fit - his birthday or christmas - but I can decide that when I am as far as I want to be.

But I will not only give the figure to him. Nah - I think this is a great opportunity for me to get back into painting. So I used my social skills to ask about some of his concepts and I think now I have got a good idea of what I have to do.

And now it is time to MAKE A GREAT PRESENT AGAIN!

Those are all the parts I have got. The lady can either use a mirror or her helmet to check her hair. Really now? I mean ... use one or the other? Nah. Not with me. She will use the mirror, but I will put the helmet in front of her and cut away her arm, so that all parts are on the base.

      And now for some basing!

      Valete!

Here's a group of 20mm Bunderwehr soldiers which I did for a skirmish game. They are from Revell of Germany and Elhiem miniatures.

Special emphasis was laid on their Flecktarn camo as it is a very distinctive pattern and is absolutely horrible to paint in such a small scale. But I think it came out pretty decent.

      Enjoy!

      Hey everyone,

Here's a 20mm Qin Chinese sword fighter from Caesar miniatures, which I painted two years ago as a test miniature for a 20mm variant of Warhammer Ancient Battles - the project never really came to life, because then all my companions decided they didn't want to do it in 20mm anymore.

I still have got a group of those ancient Chinese fighters, and this one is the best looking, I think (haha). Never got the NMM right, nor the real metallic (or what it is called), but I think he came out pretty decend with his head wound (which is a cover up of a missed seam line).

      Enjoy the pictures.

This thread is something ... different from other works I have been done.

I guess it's not entirely in accordance to the board rules, so you may forgive me and accept my humble bundle of roses, choclate and other stuff that will easy your severely upset minds.

When I am in the mood, I am doing so many speed builds up to the point of painting (means assembly, basing and priming), that making them all into different threads I would flood the forum with an unnecessary number of threads.

So I will keep this limited to the building process of my different tabletop figures, armies and stuff and transfer the finished figures to their respective painting threads.

      Hello everyone,

Once again I am starting a new project.

To not disturb the continuation of the story, I put the remarks and so on into spoiler boxes.

Thanks to @malefactusand @Silvervanefor supporting my idea and providing first feedback,

Thanks to @Glitterwolfand @Cyradisfor further support

And to @OneBoot, @buglips*the*goblin and @Chaoswolf for listening to my first attempt.

Without further ado – let’s go!

      Chapter I

The story of a village begins
A girl heads out for adventure

Once upon a time there was a village named Silvervane, founded on the edge of a rich silver deposit.

Everyone thought that this small and obscure town would soon rise to glory and greatness. A place where to all of the Earth’s kindred would pilgrim. A center of commerce and diplomacy for a quarter of a million humans and creatures from all over the world.

It was not long after this promising beginning, that the Imperial Academy of Land Surveillance measured the true size of the deposit and issued a report to the Imperial Throne, stating that the natural resource was of no significance for the great needs of the country.

This country, as we will soon learn, was called Cyradis and its ruler, the Crimson Empress, decided the fate of Silvervane.

The anticipated Great Silver Rush never happened and therefore Silvervane fell into the dark, bitter maw of oblivion.

Soon, the village was of no importance anymore and its residents – all the people who didn’t want to leave or couldn’t go – had to adapt with their new situation. Being isolated by great forests to the west and the south, a deep and stormy sea to the east and high mountains to the north, they were trapped, an enclave of human life in the middle of nowhere.

It was no easy existence for those left behind. Land had to be taken from the Malefactus, the Evil Forest that bore all kinds of creepy creatures; weird trees and plants, armies of strangely talking mushrooms and other unspeakably fantastic and eerie beings.

To counter the dreads of nature, the villagers hired warriors. Fine and athletic men and women with adventurer bodies, not those puppets or models one would expect in such a situation. No bodybuilders or mannequins. They were real and they were spectacular.

Some of them were dressed in weird clothes though. Chainmail bikinis for example. But that is a fact we can ignore here as the really important values of a human being are the inner ones.

One of those fighters was Sana, a young barbarian woman from the high north, who was very fond of her inner values.

She had a great heart, and as great hearts need a lot of space, her chest was quite ample, too.

On top of that, her liver … well … let’s forget about her liver.

Originally Sana was supposed to be the main character of this record but due to her constant drunkenness, unbelievably violent and rude behavior and the fact that all sorts of people complained about her rather simple clothing, the Imperial Academy of Written Tradition and Oral Lore had to reassess the situation.

Therefore she will not be participating other than as a secondary character.

But: Sana had a daughter. Only the great gods know how that happened, but it did – around twelve years before the beginning of this piece of history. From her early ages on, Barbaria seemed to be a very energetic child. There and back again, she roamed the lands, wandering through the forests and the grasslands, exploring mountains and battling aggressive waves at the sandy beaches of the Sea of Lethe.

Yes. Barbaria was always on the road. Standing still and waiting was not her thing. She couldn’t just sit in the tavern and drink until she fell asleep roaring like a copulating dragon – something her mother had mastered long ago.

And so the girl once again headed out, taking one of the axes of Al, the old woodcutter (a really big tool of destruction measuring almost her own height and weighting approximately seven pounds) and leaving Silvervane for the sake of catching a Glitterwolf.

No one had ever seen such a creature or even heard of it, but Barbaria was certain: the white cat behind the workshop of Sáthach, the weapons manufacturer, had told her the truth when she described the wonderful and shimmering fur of this specific animal.

Al asked her to stop. “She is an untrustworthy missy”, he warned the girl. But Barbaria felt she was on the right track.

So she encouraged the faith of the old man: “I’ll get him”, and left with the big shiny axe on her shoulder. Her long, blond hair, the last of her to be seen before she disappeared into the woods.

And what happened there will be told in the next chapter.
